Search Through Health and Wellness Grants for Nonprofits in Ohio

The Columbus Foundation

In 1943, during the darkness of World War II, a group of passionate citizens, led by Columbus businessman Harrison M. Sayre, envisioned a way to improve the well-being of the community and the quality of life in central Ohio. With little more than this sound idea and faith, The Columbus Foundation was established.

Opportunity Youth Grants

Funds recreational programs benefiting youth and ensure that all young people enter adulthood prepared to pursue opportunities to live well.

In 2015, The Columbus Foundation commissioned a research report from Jobs for the Future to better understand the challenges youth and young adults in Franklin County ages 18 to 24 were facing. At that time, it was found that 20,500 young people, referred to as opportunity youth, were not on track to graduate and/or were disconnected from society. This presented an opportunity for our community to reach out to them, intensify our efforts to reconnect, and facilitate pathways to success and self-sufficiency.

A cross-sector group of community stakeholders, including The Columbus Foundation, worked in collaboration to arrive at the theory of change that all youth should be able to enter adulthood prepared to pursue opportunities to live well. Six focus areas were identified: Civic Engagement, Education, Health and Wellness, Housing, Support Systems, and Workforce.

This Opportunity Youth coalition continues to work together to create a continuum of support that both engages youth who are currently disconnected while working upstream to ensure all youth enter adulthood prepared to pursue opportunities to live well.

The McKesson Foundation Grant provides funding up to $25,000 for organizations focused on improving health outcomes in underserved communities. Established in 1943, the foundation prioritizes health equity through strategic partnerships aimed at reducing cancer burdens, preparing healthcare professionals, and enhancing crisis response efforts. Eligible applicants include national and local nonprofits targeting specific regions in the U.S. and Canada. The foundation emphasizes projects that align with its mission and demonstrate significant community impact.

The Wayne County Emergency Response Fund, established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, provides essential emergency grants to nonprofit organizations serving Wayne County, Ohio. This fund supports projects that effectively address community needs, ensuring that vital services such as food, shelter, and healthcare remain accessible during crises. The Foundation prioritizes collaborations and sustainable projects that will continue benefitting the community post-grant. Eligible organizations must be recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofits or affiliated with such entities.

The McKesson Foundation Grant provides funding above $25,000 to support health equity initiatives across North America. Founded in 1943, its mission focuses on removing barriers to quality healthcare for vulnerable communities. The foundation prioritizes projects that align with strategic pillars: reducing cancer burdens, preparing the healthcare workforce, and enhancing crisis response. Eligible organizations include national and local nonprofits. Funding is limited to specific regions and assessed based on demonstrated need and expected impact.

Ohio Department of Health

The Ohio Department of Health’s mission is advancing the health and well-being of all Ohioans by transforming the state’s public health system through unique partnerships and funding streams; addressing the community conditions and inequities that lead to disparities in health outcomes; and implementing data-driven, evidence-based solutions.

Ohio Housing Trust Fund Special Projects Grant Program

The Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF) consists of fees collected by county recorders that may be used to make grants, loans, loan guarantees, and loan subsidies to counties, municipal corporations, townships, local housing authorities, and nonprofit organizations to assist in activities that provide housing and housing assistance for specifically targeted low- and moderate-income families and individuals.

Annually, a portion of the OHTF is set aside for the Special Projects Grant Program. This program, administered by the Community Services Division’s Office of Housing Support (OHS), provides funding for special projects and innovative proposals that will principally benefit persons or households with income at or below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and meet the OHTF’s rules and regulations, as outlined in Ohio Revised Code 174.

The AmeriHealth Caritas Foundation Grant aims to prevent and mitigate adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) to promote healthier outcomes for children. With a focus on empowering families, healing behaviors, and access to healthcare, the foundation supports nonprofit organizations that provide comprehensive care and resources. Grants range from $100,000 to $250,000, totaling up to $1.945 million for project-specific initiatives. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating in states where AmeriHealth Caritas Medicaid markets exist.

The Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust offers grants aimed at enhancing the lives of animals in the Ohio/Great Lakes region. It prioritizes projects that foster animal adoption, behavior training, and humane education. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) certified and demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare. The Trust seeks innovative, collaborative initiatives that significantly improve the well-being of animals, particularly in underserved communities, ensuring a high quality of life for both individual animals and larger populations.

The First Financial Community Grants, managed by the Hamilton Community Foundation, focus on enhancing community growth in low-income areas. Established in 1951, the Foundation supports programs in neighborhood development, workforce education, and arts initiatives. By prioritizing financial literacy and cultural experiences, the Fund aims to revitalize communities and foster long-term impact, ensuring resources benefit the region sustainably. This initiative reflects a commitment to improving the quality of life for residents in Butler County, Ohio.

The CCCF: Legacy Fund provides vital financial support to enhance the health, welfare, and safety of the Clinton County community. Established in 2019 with a $10 million endowment, it aims to empower local nonprofit organizations and government entities. By focusing on health, wellness, education, and youth initiatives, the fund fosters transformative projects that uplift the community. Its strategic approach ensures that grants are tailored to meet the needs of Clinton County residents, paving the way for lasting impact.

The SHF Responsive Grant Program, offered by Sisters Health Foundation, supports projects aimed at enhancing healthy eating, active living, thriving neighborhoods, and mental health in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public institutions targeting specific counties in West Virginia and Ohio. The program prioritizes evidence-based strategies to promote health and well-being, foster community resources, and improve access to essential services, making it a vital resource for local organizations seeking funding.

The Marion Community Foundation's Community Grants Program aims to address pressing needs in Marion County, Ohio, by providing funding to local nonprofits. This initiative supports projects that enhance food security, health, education, and community development while encouraging innovative solutions to local challenges. Eligible organizations include 501(c)3 nonprofits, public schools, and governmental entities. The foundation seeks to empower nonprofits to propose transformative ideas that foster positive change and collaboration in the community.

The Sam J. Frankino Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for children and families in need through monetary grants for education, health care, and community support. With a focus on initiatives that empower disadvantaged youth and support the Italian-American community, the Foundation aims to foster growth and development in Northeast Ohio. Guided by philanthropic excellence, it seeks to create lasting change through strategic partnerships and innovative programs for social betterment.

The Springfield Foundation Competitive Grant supports nonprofits addressing community needs in arts, civic affairs, environment, education, health, and human services. The foundation aims to enhance cultural vitality, civic engagement, environmental conservation, educational readiness, and overall community health. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) exempt and focus on Clark County, Ohio. The foundation prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion in its initiatives, promoting stability and financial independence for individuals and families.

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation invites organizations to apply for the Vibrant Places: Community and Cultural Vibrancy grant, aimed at enhancing community well-being through equitable access to resources and cultural enrichment. With $500,000 available for the 2025 cycle, grants of up to $25,000 will support initiatives that strengthen community ties and promote safe public spaces. Eligible organizations include those with 501(c)(3) status or fiscal agents, focusing on measurable outcomes and collaboration.

The HealthPath Foundation of Ohio provides grants to support Oral Health, Healthy Ohioans, and Age-Friendly Communities across a 36-county region. Their funding focuses on improving access to dental services, essential healthcare, and community engagement for older adults. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and governmental agencies based in this service area. Organizations with ongoing grants are ineligible for new funding until their current terms conclude.

The Women's Fund, an initiative of the Wayne County Community Foundation, supports nonprofit organizations in Wayne County, Ohio, focusing on women's education, economic empowerment, and health. Projects addressing community needs and enhancing organizational capacity are prioritized, especially in areas with limited support options. Interested applicants should ensure project eligibility before applying.

The GIG Fund: Arts and Wellness offers grants ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 to support projects that blend arts and wellness. Open to non-profit organizations, hospitals, and clinics across the Midwest, this fund aims to enhance community well-being through artistic initiatives. Eligible applicants must engage professional artists and provide activities that promote health and creativity. This funding round supports activities occurring between December 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, emphasizing the importance of arts in fostering wellness.

The Alfred & Lillie Dunlavey Charitable Trust Grant supports education and civic organizations in Jefferson County, Ohio. This private foundation, administered by JPMorgan, focuses on charitable initiatives in various program areas, including animal welfare, arts and culture, and health research. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, as individuals cannot apply. This grant aims to enhance community development and foster educational opportunities.

The Fifth Third Foundation offers grants to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area, focusing on education, arts, community development, and health services. The JBF Do Good Grant, established by the Joe Burrow Foundation, aims to support innovative projects that assist underprivileged children, particularly those facing mental health challenges and food insecurity. Eligible organizations include nonprofits and public charities, with proposals up to $10,000 considered. The foundation encourages creative solutions that foster lasting impacts within communities in Greater Cincinnati and Baton Rouge. The Edge of Appalachia – Adams County Fund Grant provides up to $25,000 to support projects in Adams County, Ohio, focusing on environmental protection, renewable energy, and reducing disparities in food security and healthcare. With a total funding pool of $100,000 for 2024, eligible applicants include public and nonprofit organizations serving the county. The Community Health Foundation provides responsive grants to nonprofit organizations in Clark and Champaign Counties, Ohio, focusing on health and wellness initiatives. With a mission to preserve reproductive services and promote health equity, the foundation aims to reduce health disparities through diverse funding types, including program, project, and operating support. Grants are awarded annually to support programs addressing children's health, chronic disease management, maternal and infant health, and mental health services, fostering a healthier community for all.

The Community Garden Grants aim to strengthen Central Ohio's neighborhoods by providing financial support for the creation and expansion of community gardens and greenspaces. With funding up to $3,000 and in-kind donations, the program focuses on enhancing local food access, education, and the environmental benefits of gardening. Eligible projects must benefit community groups and be completed within a year, helping connect residents to healthier lifestyles and community building opportunities.

Cox Charities Northeast offers community grants ranging from $5,000 to $12,000 annually to support nonprofit organizations focused on STEAM education. Since 2001, Cox has invested nearly $8 million in youth programming across Connecticut, Ohio, and Rhode Island. The grants prioritize innovative projects in science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and sustainability initiatives, encouraging applications from eligible 501(c)(3) organizations in the Cox East serviceable footprint.

The MGM Resorts Foundation Community Grant Fund supports nonprofit agencies providing essential services in areas such as affordable housing, education, and health. Grants are awarded for a one-year period and focus on regions where MGM Resorts employees live and work. Eligible applicants must comply with diversity policies and serve individuals or families. The foundation does not fund governmental agencies or projects exclusively for medical research. This initiative aims to enhance community well-being through targeted support.

The George T. Dunlap Community Foundation Fund aims to enhance health education and wellness within the Aultman Orrville Hospital service area. Nonprofit organizations and government entities benefiting Wayne County, Ohio, are eligible to apply. The fund prioritizes initiatives that directly support community health, while individual grants are not available except through scholarship programs. This initiative aligns with the Wayne County Community Foundation's commitment to improving local health outcomes.
