The BJS FY 2026 National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) Training and Technical Assistance aims to enhance the accuracy and accessibility of criminal history records. Stark Community Foundation is one of the area’s major sources of college scholarship support— thanks to the generosity of caring individuals, families and businesses that have created scholarship funds.

The Foundation currently manages more than 100 scholarship funds that support hundreds of deserving students each year from Stark and Carroll counties.

The Lillian Grace Mahan Scholarship Fund

The Lillian Grace Mahan Scholarship Fund was established to assist graduate and undergraduate students of library science and is available to Stark County residents who have an outstanding academic performance record and/or who are in need of financial assistance to pursue a degree in library science to become a librarian.

This scholarship is renewable.

The Michael Scott Kramer Memorial Scholarship, offered by the San Juan Island Community Foundation, is designed for post-secondary students pursuing education in fields like recreation, adventure tourism, and marine trades. This scholarship honors Mike Kramer, a beloved outdoorsman, by encouraging students to embrace life and adventure. Muskegon Community College Faculty Association Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of the Muskegon Community College Faculty Association (MCCFA), who established the Muskegon Community College Faculty Association Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. This scholarship is awarded to students continuing their education at Muskegon Community College, or pursuing an education at another college or university.

The NASA ROSES25: A.15 Biosphere program aims to enhance our understanding of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems through innovative research. This initiative focuses on biogeochemical interactions, biodiversity, and ecosystem function, utilizing satellite data and field studies. Shea Award, presented annually by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), recognizes outstanding contributions in writing and editing Earth science materials aimed at the public and educators. Established in 1991, this prestigious award honors the legacy of James H. Shea, a dedicated advocate for quality geoscience education. Nominations require a detailed letter outlining the nominee's exceptional contributions, reinforcing NAGT's commitment to fostering excellence in Earth science education.

The Excellence in JEDI Award, presented by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), honors individuals who promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in geoscience education. This prestigious award recognizes significant contributions, including mentorship and advocacy for marginalized groups. Awardees receive a one-year NAGT membership and an opportunity to present their work at a DEI event. Nominations are accepted online, and selections are made by the NAGT DEI Committee.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation and KidsGardening offer the GroMoreGood Grassroots Grant to enhance community gardens across the U.S. This initiative supports programs that engage under-resourced communities, focusing on youth participation. In 2026, 120 grants of $750 will be awarded, with additional funding opportunities available through specialty awards for programs addressing specific needs, including those serving LGBTQ+ youth and communities of color.

The Matthew Isakowitz Commercial Space Scholarship, presented by the Commercial Space Federation and the Matthew Isakowitz Foundation Programs, is an annual scholarship aimed at college students passionate about the commercial space industry. Recipients are awarded $1,000 and gain internship consideration and networking opportunities with industry leaders. The NASA Earth System Science Research Program (ESSRP) has transitioned to six Earth science research spheres, including Atmosphere, which focuses on understanding atmospheric composition and structure. This program aims to enhance comprehension of phenomena affecting air quality and weather, addressing critical issues like stratospheric ozone recovery and tropospheric dynamics. Through annual ROSES funding opportunities, NASA supports research to improve modeling efforts and observations in atmospheric sciences, ultimately benefiting public health and environmental quality.

The Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program aims to enhance the translation of scientific research into effective health interventions by establishing a national network of academic medical centers. This program supports integrated research and training environments for clinical and translational science, promoting the development of innovative methods and technologies. The reissuance of the CTSA Notice of Funding Opportunity invites eligible organizations to apply, with peer-reviewed applications prioritized for funding.

The Limited Competition: Institutional Mentored Research Career Development Program aims to enhance the CTSA Program by fostering the development of postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty. This initiative focuses on training individuals for independent clinical and translational science careers, ensuring they are well-prepared for research engagement. Funded by the NIH, the program supports a national network of academic centers to facilitate the transition of scientific discoveries into practical health solutions.

The Limited Competition Research Education Program for the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Program aims to enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical and clinical research needs. It supports educational activities that facilitate the translation of scientific discoveries into practical health interventions. Funded by the NIH, this program invites applications from eligible organizations, and only those with meritorious proposals will be considered for funding.

Raymond and Paulette Cox Scholarhsip (Piedmont)

Provides scholarship to a Piedmont graduating senior with a GPA of 3.0-3.00, attending a two- or four-year college or university and majoring in health services or public service.

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts administers over 160 scholarships. Some of the funds help students from a particular school or area; others provide financial assistance to those pursuing a specific field of study; still others assist students that are most in need. Students who apply to the Scholarship program may be eligible for many of these funds. 

Scholarships are provided for one academic year and are not automatically renewed each year. You can reapply to our program every year you are going to attend college, and the application you submit that year will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

George H. McDonnell Scholarship Fund

To support South Hadley residents who are studying civil or environmental engineering at a four-year college.

Additional Guidelines

• Students can receive up to $3,000 in scholarships from the Community Foundation.
• Scholarship awards could impact the financial aid offered by a college, and students are advised to check with their college financial aid offices about this.
• Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, fees, room and board, and other items included as part of the cost for attending the institution. Some part and/or all the award could be considered taxable income. It is advisable students check with the college or tax accountant regarding this matter.

Family Medicine POCUS Educator's Certificate Program

he yearlong STFM FM Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Educator's Certificate Program trains family medicine residency faculty to serve as their program’s POCUS champion with the skills to train family medicine residents how to effectively use POCUS. The program is accepting applications for the 2026–2027 class. Applicants must be current STFM members. 

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is sometimes referred to as the 21st century stethoscope. POCUS can help make decisions quickly for patients at the bedside, decrease time to diagnosis, and better triage who needs subspecialty care.Now, the updated ACGME guidelines recommend teaching this in family medicine residency education. Yet, there is a gap in trained faculty and established curriculum for teaching POCUS.The STFM Family Medicine POCUS Educator Certificate Program targets these gaps and focuses on solutions to help grow and support POCUS education in family medicine.

F. Marian Bishop Leadership Award

Established in 1990 in honor of Dr. F. Marian Bishop, the F. Marian Bishop Leadership Award is presented by the STFM Foundation to honor senior leaders who have significantly enhanced the credibility of family medicine by a sustained, long-term commitment to family medicine in academic settings.

The award recipient will be honored during STFM's Annual Spring Conference. The award winner will receive a commemorative award and a complimentary registration to the STFM Annual Spring Conference.

The H. Winter Griffith Resident Scholarship honors H. Winter Griffith, MD, who was an advocate for patient engagement through patient education. Thus, this award recognizes outstanding patient interaction, education, care, and outcomes by a resident or resident team in the family medicine medical home setting. 

 Entries will be judged on the following:

• The extent to which the project emphasized improvements in patient centered care
• Effectiveness or outcomes of the project
• Feasibility of the improvement project for dissemination to other health centers or systems

The Lynn and Joan Carmichael STFM Recognition Award honors an STFM member or nonmember for outstanding leadership in advancing family medicine as a discipline. The nominee's achievements and activities should be clearly recognized as enhancing or supporting family medicine education by improving resources available for its support, by defense or support of its objectives, or by other notable service to the discipline. Such achievements should have had significance at a national level.

The STFM Advocacy Scholarship for New Faculty provides the opportunity for faculty to attend the Family Medicine Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC, and develop advocacy skills to impact their patient communities. STFM supports up to five scholarships annually. Advocacy makes a real difference for patients and for family medicine. STFM supports five scholarships annually for new faculty to attend the Family Medicine Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC. The next summit will take place in June 2026, providing an opportunity for participants to develop advocacy skills for personal and academic career growth.
