Search Through Transportation Grants in Pennsylvania

Through intermodal transportation services, CSX offers equipment and rail services to help reduce transportation costs for eligible organizations. The program also includes occasional donations of railroad materials and equipment based on availability. CSX prioritizes support for organizations operating within its service areas, promoting community betterment and development.

The DanPaul Foundation aims to enhance early childhood development by training teachers and parents, protecting children from abuse, and promoting social responsibility. They provide grants to non-profits for programs that focus on education, health, and welfare of youth. Key initiatives include scholarships, environmental education, and support for underprivileged children. Established in 1996, this fund promotes collaboration among various stakeholders, facilitates policy development, and enhances public engagement in preservation issues. Eligible activities include planning and education efforts, requiring applicants to match grant funds and adhere to specific conditions to ensure effective use of resources for community sustainability.

The ACT on Health Equity Community Solutions Challenge Grant, backed by the Astrazeneca Foundation, aims to enhance health equity by funding community-based nonprofit programs. Since its inception in 2021, it has allocated over $2.6 million to initiatives addressing nutrition, healthcare access, and lung health for historically marginalized populations. Eligible US-based 501(c) organizations can apply, with a focus on projects serving underserved communities and improving health outcomes through targeted support.

The Ben Franklin Technology Partners Challenge Grant, offered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, aims to support businesses with funding for technology commercialization and alternative energy projects. The Susquehanna Riverlands Conservation Landscape Mini-Grant Program offers competitive grants ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 for projects enhancing habitat connectivity, sustainable river access, and community collaboration. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort to protect natural resources and improve quality of life along the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. The Circuit Trails initiative aims to enhance the Greater Philadelphia area by adding 75 miles to the existing network by 2035. This expansion will promote outdoor access, improve health and well-being, and foster economic development through non-motorized transportation. With over 411 miles currently in place, the goal is to develop a comprehensive 850-mile network across communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey by 2040, supported by a diverse coalition of organizations.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, aims to enhance economic development through improved transportation systems. This grant supports municipalities, businesses, and public agencies in rehabilitating and developing transportation assets to ensure safe and reliable transit. With a focus on pedestrian safety and community connectivity, the program encourages innovative solutions that foster a stronger, more resilient Pennsylvania.

The Mission Main Street Grant Program, established by the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority, aims to revitalize Erie County's main streets by supporting small businesses and enhancing community development. With funding opportunities for planning and implementation, the program encourages local governments and nonprofits to improve streetscapes, promote tourism, and foster economic growth. Grants of up to $200,000 are available, emphasizing community engagement and adherence to historic preservation principles.

The Greater Harrisburg Foundation Upstream Grant aims to foster community improvement by funding innovative projects that address systemic issues at their source. This grant supports nonprofit organizations in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, and Perry Counties, allowing them to implement creative solutions in areas such as education, health, and environmental stewardship. By focusing on upstream interventions, the foundation encourages a proactive approach to social change, ultimately enhancing community resilience and well-being.

The Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program, managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), provides crucial funding for diverse transportation projects. These include pedestrian and bicycle facilities, improvements for public transportation access, environmental enhancements, and safe routes to schools. Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this program continues to support innovative community projects aimed at enhancing mobility and safety. The funding ensures the growth and maintenance of Pennsylvania's transportation infrastructure through 2026.

The Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program is now accepting applications for the 2026 program year.

AFIG has approximately $5 million in funding available to school districts, municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and businesses in Pennsylvania that want to transition to cleaner fuel transportation. Applicants will be eligible for a maximum grant award across all applications of $500,000. Individual application awards are still capped at $300,000.

Supported alternative fuels include electricity, compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, propane, hydrogen, hythane, biodiesel, ethanol, methanol, and other advanced biofuels. Grant funding covers:

• Incremental costs related to retrofitting vehicles to operate on alternative fuels;
• Incremental costs to purchase alternative fuel vehicles;
• Cost to purchase and install the necessary fleet-refueling or home-refueling equipment for alternative fuel vehicles;
• Cost to perform research, training, development, and demonstration of new applications or next-phase technology related to alternative fuel vehicles.

The Joseph Robert Foundation Grant provides essential funding for non-profit organizations focused on the arts, animal welfare, and environmental protection. Based in Pennsylvania, the foundation prioritizes smaller local organizations in the mid-Atlantic region, offering grants typically under $10,000. It encourages innovative projects and supports first-time grant seekers, prioritizing those with limited resources. Organizations can apply for general operating support or specific project funding to further their missions and impact their communities.

Ellwood City Community Health Foundation Grant

The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation will issue funds each year to entities that are listed as a public charity by the Internal Revenue Service or classified as Section 501 (c)(3), IRC Section 170 (c)(1) or (2) under the Internal Revenue Code. The request needs to demonstrate that the funds will be used to improve access to healthcare and/or improve community health and well-being for residents of either Ellwood City, Lawrence County, or Beaver County, Pennsylvania. 

The Foundation will consider applications for programs that support public health including pregnancy programs, prevention, drug and alcohol programs, environmental programs that would promote healthy living, senior transportation, and programs for victims of family and child abuse.

A public 501c3 community foundation, the Scranton Area Community Foundation serves as a steward, a grantmaker, a charitable resource, and a catalyst for change.

As a steward and grantmaker, we manage more than 200 charitable funds established by philanthropic individuals in our community and have granted more than $18 million to assist the educational, human service, environmental, civic, and arts and cultural organizations in Northeastern Pennsylvania. We also manage assets of more than $31 million through two private foundations, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation and the Robert H. Spitz Foundation.

As a catalyst for change, we lead numerous initiatives, including Women in Philanthropy, which empowers and transforms the lives of women and girls throughout the region; NEPA Moves, which brings together a council of community leaders who are focused on solving the transportation challenges across the region; the Center for Community Leadership and Nonprofit Excellence, which serves the capacity building needs of the nonprofit community through seminars and training programs facilitated by highly-skilled, nationally-recognized professionals; and the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative, which brings together animal shelters, rescues, advocates, and sanctuaries interested in advancing various causes in animal welfare.

Tomorrow's Leaders Today (TLT) Grant Cycle

Tomorrow’s Leaders Today (TLT) is a youth leadership program of Leadership Lackawanna that provides high school juniors with the opportunity to meet with community leaders and decision-makers. In addition to leadership development, the students are also required to complete a philanthropy curriculum conducted by the Scranton Area Community Foundation. TLT seeks to help participants realize what they can do to make a difference in their community as young philanthropists and to further develop their leadership skills.

The Scranton Area Community Foundation is proud to partner with Leadership Lackawanna in introducing the concept of philanthropy and grantmaking to our region’s youth. The Scranton Area Community Foundation allocates funding for the TLT class to grant. Priority areas are chosen by the TLT students.

Grants up to $5,000 are available to charitable organizations whose programming addresses:

• Animal shelter expansion:
  • Examples of potential grants for this area include, but are not limited to
    • Projects that purchase equipment and/or supplies (i.e. crates, food, medicine) to meet demand of Animal Welfare facilities
    • Projects that build or renovate facilities to meet demand of Animal Welfare organizations
• Programs for those experiencing homelessness:
  • Examples of potential grants for this area include, but are not limited to:
    • Projects providing housing, food, or transportation for people experiencing homelessness
    • Projects providing access to education or workforce training for people experiencing homelessness
• Behavioral Health – Programming for Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults:
  • Examples of potential grants for this area include, but are not limited to:
    • Projects providing therapeutic and medical assistance to individuals 25 years of age and younger
    • Mentorship programs specifically serving individuals 25 years of age and younger with mental health issues

The Scherman Foundation's Environmental & Climate Justice Program focuses on empowering Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities through grassroots organizing to address climate change and promote racial justice. With a regional emphasis on New York City and State, the program funds multi-issue, community-based organizations that advocate for equitable climate solutions. This initiative aims to dismantle systemic inequalities and foster a Just Transition towards sustainable, democratically controlled systems, ensuring that frontline communities lead the way in climate transformation.

The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania is launching its Multi-Year Grants program, with applications opening in January 2026 for funding starting in July 2026. This initiative aims to support nonprofit organizations addressing critical community needs across five counties. Key investment priorities include meeting basic needs, promoting financial stability, and enhancing educational success for youth. Interested applicants can attend information sessions from October to November 2025 to learn more about the grant process.
