Due to limited funding, the Conservation Services Division has decided to use this microgrant opportunity to concentrate on small scale projects crucial to expanding urban production, implementing conservation practices, educating community members, and addressing other common challenges faced by urban producers.

The American Honda Foundation provides programmatic support to nonprofit organizations and schools in the U.S., empowering impactful initiatives aligned with community needs. Funding opportunities are available through Honda corporate and Honda USA Foundation, focusing on projects that enhance education and community welfare. Eligible organizations must have nonprofit status or be recognized educational institutions. Eligible entities must align with CHFA's mission by promoting affordable home ownership, rental housing, and economic development. Priority is given to organizations that serve rural communities, special needs populations, and those innovating in construction and service delivery, ensuring housing stability and economic prosperity for all Coloradans.

Technical Assistance for Federal Cost-Sharing Program

The Technical Assistance for Federal Cost-Sharing Program (TAFC) helps Colorado water users secure and use federal money for water projects. The TAFC Program's main purpose is to provide technical and administrative support to organizations applying for federal funding. This program is especially helpful for water users who struggle to access federal funds due to limited staff or technical resources.

The TAFC Program offers grants directly to water users. These grants can be used to hire consultants or get other necessary resources to create strong applications for federal funding. All projects funded by TAFC must align with the Colorado Water Plan and can include projects involving aging infrastructure. TAFC grants cannot be used for treated water projects or wastewater projects.

The CWCB has $500,000 available for projects across Colorado. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Grant funding can be used for tasks such as:

• Preliminary project planning, design, and engineering
• Preliminary permitting
• Developing estimated project costs
• Understanding available federal funding opportunities
• Grant writing
• Submitting federal grant applications

Project development: This includes site assessments, data collection for project design, working with other interested parties, permitting, design help, cost estimates, securing matching funds, and other technical work needed for a federal funding application.

Grant writing: This covers researching federal grant opportunities, contacting funding programs before applying, reviewing federal rules and application requirements, and creating the application and required documents like support letters.

Weather Modification Grant Program

The Program provides state grants to water providers, local governments and/or their fiscal agents that assist in funding ground-based wintertime operational cloud seeding programs. 

Grant money is to be used to help the local water users fund well-designed cloud seeding programs and help modernize programs to take advantage of new technologies. Permits are issued for five months of winter (typically November 1 through March 31).

Examples of how the money can be used:

• To enable full utilization of all winter months in a weather modification permit.
• To purchase or lease equipment like weather stations and remote-operated ice nuclei generators that enhance reporting and effectiveness of cloud seeding programs.
• To evaluate the effectiveness of cloud seeding in a particular area.

Grants are currently only available for permitted cloud seeding programs. To leverage the Weather Modification Grants Program, you will need to develop a plan and funding at a local level, and then apply for a weather modification permit. Annual requests come from the local level project sponsors to the CWCB.

The Nonprofit Sabbatical Grant Program, funded by The Colorado Health Foundation, offers up to $100,000 to support nonprofit leaders in Colorado. This initiative allows executives to take a much-needed sabbatical of three to four months, fostering rejuvenation and innovative thinking. The program emphasizes diversity in its grantee selection, aiming to address entrenched inequities while ensuring sustainability in organizational operations during the absence of leaders. By investing in interim leadership and staff development, it enhances the capacity of nonprofits to serve their communities effectively.

The WNAN Natural History Research Grant supports research in biological natural history within western North America. Grants of up to $2,500 are available for five authors to assist with travel, supplies, and other research-related expenses. This initiative particularly encourages applicants from institutions where research is not the primary focus, aiming to foster diverse contributions to natural history.

The Coaching Enhancement Grant by the NCAA Division III aims to increase diversity in assistant coaching roles by providing financial support to member institutions. Over two years, selected schools receive $15,000 to cover salaries, requiring a matching contribution. With an annual budget of $1.6 million, it supports up to 46 schools and conferences over five years. Eligible institutions must be active NCAA Division III members and meet various requirements. This grant encourages diversity in leadership, fostering an inclusive environment for student-athletes.

The WINcome Grant, launched by the Women's Foundation of Colorado, is a multi-year grant opportunity set to commence in 2024. Emphasizing economic advancement through trust and decision-making, this initiative aims to empower individuals and families. The grant will support organizations with flexible cash assistance and general operating funds, fostering systemic changes that promote gender, racial, and economic equity for women and families in Colorado. Application cycles will resume in 2027.

Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants Scholarship Fund

The Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants created this scholarship fund to award to a qualified individual majoring in an agricultural field.

The LibertyGives Foundation, established in 2007, focuses on enhancing charitable giving in Colorado, particularly for underprivileged and at-risk youth. With over $7 million contributed to various organizations, it emphasizes active employee involvement through sponsorship, volunteer work, and a matching program for donations. Eligible charities must be 501(c)(3) organizations based in Colorado and sponsored by a Liberty Media employee, ensuring a strong community connection and support for impactful services.

The Coaching Enhancement Grant - Division II aims to enhance diversity in NCAA coaching by providing financial support for new assistant coaching positions. This grant specifically targets increased representation of ethnic minorities and women in athletics. Selected schools receive funding for three years to cover salaries and benefits, totaling $370,000 annually for up to 21 institutions. Eligible schools must be active NCAA Division II members committed to these diversity efforts.

The Strategic Alliance Matching Grant - Division II offers financial support to enhance ethnic minority and gender representation in mid- to senior-level athletics administration roles across NCAA Division II institutions. With an annual budget of $860,000, the grant aims to fund up to 20 schools and conferences each year. Eligible applicants must be active Division II members and are encouraged to collaborate with their human resources departments during the proposal process, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.

Wild and Scenic Rivers Fund

In 2009, the Colorado General Assembly created the Wild and Scenic Rivers Fund to foster cooperative and collaborative processes aimed at the development of protections for river-dependent outstandingly remarkable values (“ORVs”). These protections would be intended as an alternative to wild and scenic river designation under the federal Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, while also protecting Colorado’s ability to fully use its compact and decree entitlements.

The Colorado General Assembly established the Colorado Water Conservation Board’s (CWCB’s) Wild and Scenic Rivers Fund (“the Fund”) in 20091. The legislature:

• Provided that the Fund would be refreshed annually up to $400,000;
• Stated that the Fund should be used to “work with stakeholders within the state of Colorado to develop protection of riverdependent resources as an alternative to wild and scenic river designation under the federal Wild and Scenic Rivers Act”; and,
• Provided that the Board may adopt terms and conditions here called “guidelines” for fund disbursements.

The Fund is used for two primary purposes: 

• To support local resource protection groups (“stakeholder groups”) that form to develop protection of river-dependent resources as an alternative to wild and scenic river designation under the federal Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, exploring different approaches that will most benefit the resource and the community, and 
• For CWCB Staff operational expenses related to participation in such stakeholder groups.

These guidelines are designed to assure that the Fund is used to support the efforts of these various stakeholder groups in an equitable and efficient manner. It is the goal of the CWCB to ensure wise and effective use of monies from the Fund. The CWCB strongly encourages the use of this Fund for projects that result in the compilation of the best available data at the earliest stages of the federal agencies’ plan revisions and processes to evaluate streams and rivers for eligibility and suitability for Wild and Scenic designation. Colorado's Instream Flow Program offers a means to protect flow-related Outstandingly Remarkable Values (ORVs) without a Wild and Scenic designation; thus, stakeholder groups are encouraged to consider instream flows as a primary tool in the effort to protect such ORVs

The Advocacy and Justice with Communities of Color Fund Grant, provided by the Colorado Health Foundation, aims to empower organizations led by people of color to promote health equity. This initiative supports advocacy efforts that address systemic inequities and fosters long-term movement-building. Through grants ranging from $50,000 to $200,000 annually for two to five years, the Foundation seeks to strengthen community-led advocacy that influences policy changes, ensuring health opportunities for underserved populations.
