Midwest Asset Management University Program

Operating, maintaining, and preserving affordable housing is complex and requires a specialized set of skills and a deep organizational commitment to asset management. Today, affordable housing providers face a variety of economic, operational, and compliance challenges, including rising operating costs, rental arrears, staffing shortages, and an aging portfolio.

Enterprise is launching its first Asset Management University (AMU) Program in the Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, and/or Minnesota) in March 2026 to support mission-aligned, affordable housing providers in meeting these challenges in their efforts to provide housing stability to residents and preserve the long-term affordability of properties.

The Midwest AMU is a comprehensive, five-month training program that seeks to strengthen the asset and property management capabilities of participating housing providers, improving organizations’ capacity to oversee the financial, physical, and operational health of their housing portfolios.

Midwest Asset Management University Cohort 

Enterprise is excited to offer this application for participation in the Asset Management University (AMU) Cohort (the “Cohort”). Up to fifteen (15) eligible organizations will be selected for this Cohort and will receive access to online training offered by the Consortium of Housing and Asset Management (CHAM), peer learning opportunities, and post-training technical assistance.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools across the US to implement the PLTW Gateway program for the first time. With total funding of $9,100, the grant covers participation fees and training registration costs. Schools, including public, private, and charter, are encouraged to apply, particularly those serving low-income and minority majority populations. This initiative aims to enhance educational pathways in STEM for diverse student groups.

The Jewel-Osco Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that enhance neighborhood welfare, focusing on areas like hunger, youth education, and veterans. Grants typically range from $2,500 to $25,000 for first-time applicants. The foundation promotes inclusivity and requires a nondiscrimination policy from applicants. It does not fund individuals, religious organizations for religious purposes, or fundraising events, ensuring funds are directed towards impactful programs. Applications are reviewed monthly, with a response timeframe of 4-6 weeks.

The Special Wildlife Funds - Furbearer Fund (FY26) offers competitive grants to nonprofits, government entities, and educational institutions aimed at supporting projects that enhance the management and conservation of fur-bearing mammals. Eligible activities include education for hunters and trappers, training on best practices, and scientific research. This fund encourages sustainable harvesting and habitat improvement, ensuring the thriving populations of species such as beavers, otters, and raccoons in Illinois.

Illinois organizations, preferably 501(c)(3) nonprofits, can seek funding to deliver parenting counseling and education programs focused on families in the child welfare system. With a mission to strengthen families, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services provides support for Nurturing Parenting Program classes, home visits, and therapeutic family-centered services to prevent abuse and neglect.

The Thing 123 Foundation's Community Challenge Grant aims to combat hunger in Elmhurst and surrounding areas by matching donations to build a new Community Food Pantry facility. Established in 1999, the Foundation supports organizations dedicated to enhancing children's lives. This grant will match one dollar for every two dollars donated, up to $100,000, to empower local businesses and community leaders in the fight against food insecurity affecting families and individuals in need.

The Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation (ILCHF) aims to ensure every child in Illinois grows up healthy. Committed to improving children's health and wellness, ILCHF supports innovative ideas and partnerships that address emerging needs. While funding is available for novel initiatives, it does not support budget shortfalls, existing program operations, or medical research. ILCHF is dedicated to fostering a healthier future for Illinois children through targeted and impactful funding.

The Illinois Equal Justice Foundation (IEJF) provides funding to support domestic violence prevention through self-help legal assistance projects. Grants are available to Illinois-based organizations that offer legal advice and assistance to individuals navigating the legal system, particularly in noncriminal matters. The funding aims to empower survivors of domestic violence by ensuring they have access to essential legal resources. This initiative is part of the state's fiscal year 2025 budget, focusing on enhancing legal support for low-income individuals.

The IDHS/DBHR through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is seeking providers to provide prevention and outreach services to individuals and the general community around gambling disorder. Applicants with gambling disorder experience are preferred though all applicants will be considered. Applicants may apply for innovative outreach and/or prevention services including school-based prevention curriculums identified by IDHS/DBHR. In SFY27, the Department anticipates the availability of approximately $3,500,000 in total funding for applicant and any subgrantees. The grant period will begin July 1, 2026, and will end on June 30, 2027, with the option to renew for an additional two full years, if funding is available. The release of this NOFO does not obligate the Illinois Department of Human Services to make an award. Services may not be provided until a contract is fully executed by the Department.

• IDHS is working to counteract systemic racism and inequity, and to prioritize and maximize diversity throughout its service provision process. This work involves addressing existing institutionalized inequities, aiming to create transformation, and operationalizing equity and racial justice. It also focuses on the creation of a culture of inclusivity for all regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or ability.
• The IDHS/DBHR is seeking organizations with a history coordinating gambling disorder engagement and screening events though new organizations will be considered.

The goals, objectives and deliverables of this program are:

• The award will contribute to achieving the program's goals and objectives by ensuring the statewide provision of services that accomplish the deliverables noted below. Services will be designed to support and inform individuals with potential gambling problems, their friends/family members, and the general community.
• Organizations will provide for the production and publication, in electronic and other formats, of gambling prevention, recognition, treatment, and recovery literature and other public education methods.

The Renaissance Scholars Program, established by The Renaissance Foundation in 2000, aims to support high achieving, low-income students who are the first in their families to pursue a bachelor's degree. Offering renewable scholarships up to $5,000 annually, the program emphasizes educational access and equity. Scholars benefit from mentoring, growth opportunities, and resources to enhance their college experience. The foundation seeks applicants who demonstrate leadership potential and a strong commitment to academic achievement.

The Dr. Ralph and Marian Falk Medical Research Trust – Falk Catalyst Awards support high-risk, high-reward biomedical research with up to $350,000 in funding over one to two years. These awards aim to address critical scientific challenges and enable the translation of innovative research into clinical practices. Projects focus on identifying biological markers, therapeutic targets, and developing interventions to disrupt disease processes, ultimately improving treatment outcomes for patients.

The Creative Learning Grants for Schools in Illinois, administered by the Illinois Arts Council, aim to enhance arts education in K-12 public and charter schools. Schools can apply for grants up to $20,000 to obtain essential materials and services from local artists or organizations. Health and social service organizations in Illinois seeking to build or expand telehealth for opioid and other substance use disorder prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery may be eligible for this opportunity, with awards up to US $150,000. Colonel Sidney Ginsberg Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund was established upon receipt of a bequest from the estate of Colonel Sidney Ginsberg.

The fund supports scholarships for students graduating from East Aurora or West Aurora High School for attendance at a state-supported college or university located in Illinois.

Colonel Ginsberg (1899-1951) served in the United States Army following his graduation from West Point Academy.

After World War II, he returned to Aurora to manage the Ginsberg Store which was founded by his father Isaac Ginsberg.

In his bequest, Colonel Ginsberg included the following words. “The citizens of Aurora have been extremely good to me and to my business operations. The monies spent in my store (Ginsberg Store) by such citizens enable me to establish a trust and I hope by this method to repay them in some small manner.”

Colonel Ginsberg’s bequest was the first to be received by the Foundation. Created in 1953, Mr. Ginsberg’s fund was established as an endowment in 1989.

Dickes Family Scholarship Permanent Endowment Fund

This fund was established upon receipt of a bequest from the estate of Herman A. Dickes.

Mr. Dickes (1905-2000) was born in Aurora and graduated from East Aurora High School.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Burlington Railroad.

His wife May Dickes (1907-1989) was born in Chicago. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for numerous community projects and served as the first chairperson of the Mercy Ball.

Mr. and Mrs. Dickes were involved in many youth activities and charitable organizations in Aurora.

Holy Angels Catholic Church, Mercy Center, Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Elks Club were a few of the many special places which felt their love.

In keeping with their belief in the importance and accessibility of education for all youth, the couple established an endowed scholarship for students with financial need who are graduating from a high school located within the City of Aurora or from Marmion Academy.

Erin K. Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Erin K. Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund provides annual awards to Aurora residents who are graduating from East Aurora or West Aurora High School or to students who are GED graduates.

These scholarships are reserved for students pursuing a career in the field of counseling, education, nursing, psychology, or social work.

Erin Harrison (1985-2004) was born in Park Ridge, Illinois. She grew up in Aurora, Illinois and attended Hall Elementary School, Jefferson Middle School and West Aurora High School.

At the time of her passing, Erin was a senior at West High where she played the clarinet in the school’s various bands. She also worked at the SciTech Museum and was active in the youth group at New England Congregational Church.

Always adventurous and charming, Erin possessed a rare and special gift in relating to children. She had planned to further her talents by pursuing a degree in elementary education at Northern Illinois University.

Walter A. Sperry Scholarship Endowment Fund

Students entering post-graduate studies in the fields of dentistry or engineering are eligible to apply for scholarships from the Walter A. Sperry Scholarship Endowment Fund.

This fund was established as a memorial to Walter A. Sperry, Sr. (1882-1981) and Walter A. Sperry, Jr. (1922-1995).

Walter A. Sperry, Sr. received a degree in chemical engineering from Ohio State University in 1907.

He was a chemist in Columbus, Ohio and Grand Rapids, Michigan before his appointment as superintendent of the Aurora Sanitary District, a position he held from 1930 to 1958.

His son Walter A. Sperry, Jr. was a graduate of the University of Illinois Dental School and practiced in Aurora from 1947 to 1988.

In addition, he taught at the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois-Chicago for twenty-five years.

Albert M. Zari Scholarship Fund

The Albert M. Zari Scholarship Fund was established by the Albert M. Zari Foundation to provide scholarships to students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree from a college or university in accounting, aeronautics/aerospace science, agriculture, business, communications, computer science, electronics, engineering, finance, information systems, medicine, or pharmacy.

Students continuing their studies in trade schools are also eligible for these scholarships.

Eligibility is reserved for students graduating from public high schools located within the following Illinois School Districts: Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Oswego, Sycamore, DeKalb, Kaneland, Yorkville or Plano.

Albert M. Zari directed that these scholarships be created from his estate to reflect his belief in the power of education.

With an eighth grade education, and after completing an electricians’ apprenticeship program, Mr. Zari became a successful businessman.

He was the founder of A.M. Zari Construction Company and was very proud of the work that his company did on the runways at O’Hare Airport.

Mr. Zari spent his free time as a woodworker at his home in St. Charles, Illinois producing exquisite works of art.

A native of Chicago, he was the son of Peter and Delfina Zari and husband to Carole.

Mr. Zari served his country in the Navy in World War II. He passed away on February 2, 2014 at the age of 94.

Jack Desha Witt Education Endowment Fund

This endowment was created by a bequest received from the estate of Jack Desha Witt (1907-1990) as a memorial to his father Dr. John D. Witt (1874-1938). Dr. Witt was a physician and surgeon who practiced in Aurora during the early 1900’s.

The Jack Desha Witt Education Endowment Fund provides income to Aurora students entering a pre-medicine course of study, including nursing. Mr. Witt chose the Foundation as a meaningful and permanent way to honor the memory of his father.

John V. and Carol E. Winkle Scholarship Foundation Endowment Fund

The John V. and Carol E. Winkle Scholarship Foundation Endowment Fund was created to provide scholarships to high school graduates located within the Community Foundation’s service area. Graduates of Hinckley-Big Rock High School and home-schooled students are also eligible for these awards if they reside within the Community Foundation’s service area.

John (1938-2010) and Carol (Crishal) Winkle (1937-2023) of Batavia and then Aurora were born in Youngstown, Ohio. They were graduates of Ursuline High School and Youngstown State University.

In 1969, the Winkles moved to Illinois where John joined and would later acquire the Weldstar Company in Aurora.

“Wink” and Carol touched many lives through their philanthropic endeavors and in their service to various organizations, including the Association for Individual Development, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Hesed House, Tri-City Family Services, area schools, and their churches (Holy Cross Parish and then Annunciation BVM).

Scholarships from their foundation will continue their belief in the potential of every human being and their sense of commitment to one’s community.

Judy Whinfrey Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund

The Judy Whinfrey Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund was created to honor the life of Judy Whinfrey, a well-known civic leader in the Fox Valley Area.

The fund has been launched with a generous gift from the Central DuPage Hospital Foundation (now known as Northwestern Medicine Foundation), which partnered with Hewitt Associates of Lincolnshire and Mrs. Whinfrey’s husband, Peter Whinfrey, to establish a significant endowment within the hospital foundation in Mrs. Whinfrey’s name.

Judy Whinfrey (1949-2010) was born in Evanston, Illinois. After graduation from the University of Illinois, she joined Hewitt Associates, a global human resources consulting and outsourcing company, where she spent more than thirty years as a principal and managing consultant.

As one of the first women to become an account executive in the mid-1970s, she co-founded Hewitt’s Women in Leadership initiative. She also served on the Hewitt executive committee and was a past member of the company’s board of directors.

Mrs. Whinfrey was a member of the board of directors of Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois and Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She served as chairman of the board of the hospital from 2004 to 2008.

She was the first female certificate member of the Chicago Golf Club and was a member of the Secession Golf Club in Beaufort, South Carolina, where she was the first female to play in the annual Blue-Grey matches.

Judy Whinfrey lived life to its fullest and was an inspiration to those whose lives she touched. It is in this spirit that a nursing scholarship was created with the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley.

Scholarships in Mrs. Whinfrey’s name will be awarded to graduates of East Aurora or West Aurora High School who are studying within the field of nursing to obtain an Associate Degree in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Master of Science in Nursing.

Myron L. & Frances B. Wormley Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund provides scholarships to students who have been active participants in the Kendall County 4-H Program.

Myron Wormley (1914-2006) was a graduate of East Aurora High School and the University of Illinois.

He farmed on the Wormley Farm near Oswego until 1959. He then began a career in real estate, retiring in the mid 1980’s.

Mr. Wormley also was the Oswego Township Supervisor for twenty-five years.

Frances Wormley (1918-2010) grew up on a farm in Millbrook.

She was a graduate of Yorkville High School and attended the University of Illinois.

Mrs. Wormley was an elder at the Oswego Presbyterian Church, where she also was the organist for many years.

She served on the board of directors of the YWCA Aurora and on the organizing board of what became Waubonsee Community College.

She also was a member of PEO, Republican Women, Eastern Star and the Grove Road Farmers Club.

The Planning and Service Grants to Area Agencies on Aging provide essential funding for community-based services for older adults in Illinois. These grants support initiatives addressing social isolation, Alzheimer's disease, and dementia-friendly programs. The Home Delivered Meals (Non-Formula and Formula) State Funding provides essential meal delivery services for homebound older adults in Illinois. Zonta Club of Aurora Scholarship Endowment Fund

The Zonta Club of Aurora Scholarship Endowment Fund was established to recognize academically talented female students graduating from a high school located in the City of Aurora.

Eligible students must have earned an overall grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale and also must be able to demonstrative positive values in the areas of character and leadership.

Zonta is an international professional business woman’s organization promoting improvement in the status and education of women through community service, study and action. The Aurora Club was established in 1959.

The Illinois Grocery Initiative - Equipment Upgrades program, managed by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, offers grants for energy-efficient equipment upgrades to qualifying grocery stores. This initiative aims to combat food deserts in Illinois by supporting independently-owned grocers, cooperatives, and not-for-profits, ensuring access to fresh foods while promoting sustainability. Eligible entities must meet specific criteria, including a minimum match requirement for project costs.
