The National Federation of the Blind of Greater Louisville scholarship has named the Mittie Lake Memorial Scholarship in honor of Ms. Mittie Lake, a charter member of the National Federation of the Blind of Greater Louisville who understood and championed the value of higher education. Our minimum award for the Mittie Lake Scholarship is $500 for one winner.

About the Scholarship

The Mittie Lake Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of Mittie Lake who was a long-time Federationist and charter member of the National Federation of the Blind of Greater Louisville. Mittie was a student at the KY School for the Blind. During her middle years, Mittie lost all of her sight.

Mittie had an enthusiasm for life and all of its many offerings. The fact that Mittie became totally blind did nothing to stop her from living the life she wanted. Mittie was married and raised a family and she worked tirelessly in her church nursery for more than thirty years, providing nurturing care for hundreds of babies and young children. Mittie sang with numerous choirs, quartets and ensembles. She was a strong advocate for Braille and its use in all aspects of daily life. Mittie chose to use a guide dog and treated her guides not only as the tools she needed to live her life independently, but as valued friends and companions who were never without love, affection, and a treat or two.

In honor of her life experiences, preference will be given to students who are guide dog users and who utilize Braille as part of their daily lives.

Established by the family of Mr. & Mrs. McNamara to provide college tuition assistance to a graduating Senior from Susquehanna Community School District who has maintained an 85 GPA and who will major in nursing and has the potential to contribute in a meaningful way to the health and welfare of the community.

Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors. Applications are accepted from mid-November until mid-March. Scholarship award recipients will be announced at the high school awards ceremony. 

R.E.S.C.U.E. Benjamin B. Stone Memorial Scholarship

Established by the environmental organization “Return Susquehanna County Under Ecology” to recognize Benjamin Stone. Two college scholarships are awarded each year and are available to seniors from all of the high schools in Susquehanna County and from Honesdale, Wallenpaupack Area, and Western Wayne High Schools in Wayne County.

Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award

Promotes excellence in academic research for members early in their careers. This award honors the founding editor of the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) and recognizes the importance of the young investigator in developing interventional solutions for the future.

In 1990, SIR Foundation established the Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award as a way to recognize promising young practitioners of interventional radiology early in their careers and encourage their pursuit of academic careers. Each year, the author of the most outstanding clinical science research paper submitted receives this distinguished award.

$3,000 honorarium along with complimentary registration to the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Scholarship, established by the Nu Delta Omega Chapter in 2025, awards a $1,000 scholarship to female high school seniors from Beaufort and Jasper County public schools. Eligible candidates must demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and possess leadership qualities. Recipients are required to enroll full-time in a post-secondary institution and attend the AKA Scholarship Lunch and Learn workshop on April 4, 2026.

The Beaufort County Law Enforcement Educational Scholarship, established by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, supports high school seniors in Beaufort County pursuing higher education. This scholarship benefits children of current or former law enforcement personnel, promoting academic achievement with a minimum GPA requirement of 3.0. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrate extracurricular involvement beyond golf, and write an essay on how golf has shaped their personal growth. This initiative fosters educational opportunities for youth impacted by the game of golf, positively influencing their futures.

The Masonic Scholarship, offered by the Beatrice Educational Foundation, provides a $500 award to graduating seniors of Beatrice High School. This scholarship recognizes good citizenship and moral character without requiring academic standing or financial need. It can be used at any accredited institution of higher learning, with a preference given to children of Masons or members of Jobs Daughters and Demoley.
