Best Mason County Grants for Nonprofits in West Virginia

The PACF Community Action Grants support nonprofits in West Virginia through a competitive grant process twice a year. Grants up to $20,000 are available for diverse fields such as Arts, Education, and Community Development. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) entities serving the Foundation's 11-county area. Projects addressing community needs and enhancing organizational capacity are prioritized, especially in areas with limited support options. Interested applicants should ensure project eligibility before applying.

GrantED (Education Mini Grant) aims to enhance educational experiences for teachers and students by providing funding of up to $3000 per application. The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation supports this initiative, which allows unlimited applications from schools while limiting each teacher to one request per year. Eligible applicants include teachers, librarians, nurses, and counselors, all of whom must focus on educational support. Note that general supplies and snacks are excluded from funding.

The Community Impact Grants (CIG) by the Community Foundation of Mason County support the development of new services and programs to meet community needs. These grants prioritize projects in various fields, including arts, education, and health, with a focus on expanding existing services and reaching new audiences. The CALT Black Appalachian Storytellers Fellowship, supported by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, celebrates and preserves the rich traditions of Black Appalachian storytelling. This fellowship honors those who embody the history and culture of African Americans in the region. Each year, fellows are recognized at the National Black Storytelling Festival and Conference, receiving awards crafted by Dr. Dena Jennings. The program fosters a deeper understanding of these traditions and invites fellows to share their stories at future events.

The SpartanNash Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations focused on Hunger, Heroes, and Hope. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations located within a 30-mile radius of SpartanNash facilities. The Foundation ensures that every dollar raised directly benefits partner organizations, with a commitment to community impact. Grants are not available for ineligible entities, including those outside the radius or not aligned with the Foundation's mission. Since its inception in 2015, the Foundation has positively influenced local communities.

The CALT Experiences Grants, provided by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, support public projects in Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia that celebrate traditional arts and cultural knowledge. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations and individual artists from Appalachian Regional Commission-designated areas. Funded activities may encompass workshops, public art, performances, and exhibitions. This initiative fosters community engagement and enhances appreciation of living traditions while promoting artistic skills and cultural heritage.

Community Foundation of Mason County

The Community Foundation of Mason County – MCCF, Inc. is a county wide community foundation serving Mason County, WV. 

With support from our donors, the Foundation is happy to support community projects and programs that create opportunities for Mason County, its citizens and its communities.

Community Impact Grants

Community Impact Grants (CIG) are made in the fields of: Arts and Culture, Education, Health and Human Services, Recreation, Youth and Family Services, and Community and Economic Development. The Foundation focuses on: Capital and Equipment Projects, Program Development, Capacity Building, and Operating Support. 

Community Impact Grants: Capacity Building

Capacity Building Grants support projects that provide an organization with technical assistance and/or training to be able to more effectively meet their mission and/or provide services

Priority is given to projects that:  

• have significant impact on the people and communities served by the applicant organization;
• reach new audiences, expand existing programs or services, or respond to emerging needs;
• strengthen the organization’s capacity to deliver its services and meet community needs;
• are well-planned and can reasonably be achieved; 
• have a matching grant opportunity or seek a matching grant to leverage more funding;  
• have limited access to other sources of support; 
• serve the Mason County community.

Important Information for Grant Seekers

• Organizations may submit only one application per grant cycle. The only exception may be for organizations that have more than one physical site, with each site having its own board or governance structure. Such organizations must contact the Foundation before submitting more than one application to discuss eligibility.

• The total amount of funds requested generally may not exceed $10,000. Requests for more than $10,000 may be considered for projects that are highly collaborative or for projects that will have a significant impact on the community at large. As noted above, applicants must contact the Foundation prior to submitting a request in excess of $10,000.

• Organizations receiving a Community Grant in any grant cycle from the Foundation are not eligible for funding in the immediate next cycle.

• When the Foundation declines to support an application, the applicant may call the Foundation to discuss their proposal and to inquire about reapplying. After an application is declined once, the organization may re-submit the application one more time; if an application has been declined twice, then the organization may not submit another request for funding of the same project. 

Grant requests will be considered based on the applicant’s service area and on grant funds available.

The Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative aims to revitalize communities impacted by coal industry transitions. This initiative provides funding for projects that diversify local economies, enhance job training, and create new employment opportunities. By fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, the POWER Initiative supports strategic investments that align with regional economic development plans, ensuring a more resilient future for coal-affected areas.

The Community Foundation of Mason County, MCCF, Inc., actively works with you, your neighbors, co-workers and friends to build a family of charitable funds to support our local community. The Foundation is far more than a fund manager, we are the community’s heart and soul – providing community leadership to unite gifts of time, talent and funds to make a transforming impact on Mason County. Earnings from the Foundation’s collection of community funds are distributed in the form of grants and scholarships to continually strengthen and improve our community – working to make Mason County a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Mini Grant

Mini grant for qualifying applicants in emergency situations.

The PACF: Special and Urgent Needs (SUN) Grants provide up to $4,000 to support organizations facing unforeseen emergencies or opportunities requiring immediate funding. Open to 501(c)(3) non-profits and public institutions in the PACF’s 11-county service area, these grants aim to quickly address urgent community needs. Applications can be submitted anytime to the Foundation's Senior Program Officer, ensuring timely assistance for critical projects.

The Production Engineering and Manufacturing Center (PEMC) Grants, funded by Toyota, aim to enhance community well-being and inclusivity. The program supports qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits, public schools, and state or municipal organizations addressing urgent societal challenges. Toyota prioritizes STEM education and workforce readiness, engaging employees as volunteers to amplify their impact. Note that certain organizations, including those not recognized as nonprofits, are ineligible. Grants focus on sustainable, long-term development for under-resourced communities.

The Fall Community Action Grants Program, initiated by the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, supports nonprofit organizations and public institutions within an 11-county area in West Virginia and Washington County, Ohio. Grants up to $20,000 are awarded for projects in arts, education, health, and community development. Special consideration is given to initiatives fostering inclusive communities and addressing social issues. Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt organizations or public agencies, with a focus on collaborative projects that benefit local residents.

The Community Foundation of Mason County – MCCF, Inc. is a county wide community foundation serving Mason County, WV. The Foundation’s Gordon and Mildred Jackson Foundation and Mason County Community Grant Programs are a competitive application process.

Funding Priorities for Operating Support Grants

Funding for operating support is considered.

• Document increased demand for services, unexpected reduction in sources of ongoing operating support, or a specific current financial challenge for which a plan is in place to mitigate;
• Show evidence that it has gone through an internal process of cost-reduction and/or realistic revenue-enhancement analysis focused on core service preservation prior to the request.
• Demonstrate that it has completed an organizational assessment and developed a realistic plan for financial stabilization.
• Show how the operating support grant will increase financial stability and/or help the organization make significant progress toward addressing its financial challenge.

• Present a realistic plan for organizational growth, outlining how operating support is critical to the growth plan (to expand services, offer new programs, reach new audiences, etc.).
• Include a plan for the organization to have adequate funding at the completion of the grant.

The ARISE Grants, offered by the Appalachian Regional Commission, aim to drive regional economic transformation across 13 Appalachian states. With funding of up to $63.5 million for implementation grants and $10 million maximum awards, the initiative supports collaborative projects that enhance community capacity and economic growth. The program encourages innovative partnerships to strengthen local economies and achieve socioeconomic parity, benefiting over 26 million residents in the Appalachian Region.

The Area Development Grant Program, managed by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), supports economic growth in Appalachia through investments in critical infrastructure and workforce development. Targeting 423 counties across 13 states, the program encourages local communities to collaborate with state governments to identify and implement impactful projects. Key focus areas include enhancing utilities, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening local leadership. This initiative aims to uplift the 26 million residents of Appalachia, fostering sustainable economic opportunities.

Beckley Area Foundation

Beckley Area Foundation was established in January 1985 by ten community-minded citizens. It began with a gift of $1.1 million from the Dr. Thomas Walker Memorial Health Foundation as “seed” money for this Raleigh County project. BAF assets have grown to over $70 million with over 500 different funds managed by our three trustee banks. Today, Beckley Area Foundation is one of West Virginia’s largest community foundations.

Since its inception, BAF has distributed over $23 million to charities and other worthy projects in the fields of education, public recreation, health & human services, the arts, animal services and beautification.

Scholarships

The Beckley Area Foundation proudly manages scholarship funds established by individuals, businesses, and organizations dedicated to helping students pursue higher education. Many of these scholarships are tailored for specific schools, fields of study, or graduates from local high schools, while others offer broader opportunities. No matter the path, our scholarships aim to support students from our region as they work toward achieving their educational goals.

Most of these scholarships must be awarded to students from our geographic area or at least preference given to such students. While the majority of scholarships benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. 

Bill Weese Trades Scholarship

Residents of Webster County, WV; Recent graduates and adult career-switchers seeking a professional trade or retraining assistance; Must attend a trade school including vocational programs offering certification or degree programs designed to teach specific employment skills; Additional requirement details available in application.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from a high school in Lackawanna County who demonstrates academic excellence, good citizenship, participation in athletics, and who is active in a faith or religious-based organization.

Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors. Applications are accepted from mid-November until mid-March. Scholarship award recipients will be announced at the high school awards ceremony. 

Mariano and Maria Lampazzi Fiaschi Memorial Scholarship

Established by Colonel Peter Fiaschi in memory of his parents, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating student from Susquehanna Community School District who intends to pursue a major in healthcare. The scholarship provides financial support for up to four years of college, contingent upon the recipient maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 and remaining in good standing within an accredited healthcare program.
