For more than four decades, the Arizona Community Foundation has worked in tandem with generous individuals, families, and organizations to address some of the biggest challenges facing our state.

Scholarships

In partnership with our generous donors, we award millions of dollars annually to help students achieve their educational goals. Through our online system, students complete one application and are matched with available scholarships, based on their eligibility requirements.

Guinn B. Burton Medical Scholarship

Guinn B. Burton established this scholarship fund in her estate trust to provide medical scholarships for disadvantaged students. 

The Biocodex Microbiota Foundation invites early career researchers in the microbiome field from U.S. institutions to apply for the 2024 grant. This initiative focuses on groundbreaking research into gut microbiota's role in human health and disease, particularly in areas like circadian rhythms and metabolic disorders. The grant supports operational costs, allowing for innovative projects aimed at fostering independent research careers in microbiota studies.

Jack Beaty Educational Scholarship Foundation Grant

Jack Beaty was a pillar of the community he lived in and loved. He was a successful businessman from an early age having founded two companies. One company supplied food to retail stores throughout New Mexico, where Jack became friends with all his customers and fell in love with the state. He founded an oil and gas company in Farmington, New Mexico as well.

Jack eventually became involved in politics in New Mexico where he served as the Bernalillo County Democratic Chairman and the New Mexico State Democratic Chairman. During the 1960 Presidential campaign, Jack became friends with John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. Jack served as the Western States coordinator for the Kennedy campaign. After the 1960 election, Jack sold his food supply business and moved to Washington, D.C. Jack served in both the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations. Following this service, Jack formed the public relations firm Jack Beaty and Associates in Washington, D.C.

While in Washington, D.C., Jack met and married Rose Marie Beaty Martinez, the personal assistant to Senator Joseph M. Montoya, the United States Senator from Mexico. Jack and Rose Marie retired to New Mexico in 1979 where Jack devoted his time to managing Western Minerals and Oil. Jack desired that upon his and Rose Marie’s death that his estate be used to assist and provide access to education to less fortunate students in New Mexico.

In his estate plan, Jack desired that the Jack Beaty Educational Scholarship Foundation be established to carry out his charitable goal of assisting students to obtain a secondary education.

We do this in collaboration with donors and community partners who share our vision for community transformation through stewardship of charitable endowments, superior donor services, effective grantmaking, and leadership to address community needs.

The Community Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors and staffed by a team of local experts, representing diverse backgrounds, interests, and professional expertise. Foundation staff members work closely with donors, grantees, community leaders, government agencies, and businesses to ensure the Community Foundation effectively meets community needs.

Herbert K. and Isabel C. Liebich Scholarships

Established to honor the founders of Albany Frosted Foods, one of the original companies to form Sysco Corporation, by awarding a scholarship each year to the children of employees or retirees of Sysco Foods of New York, Inc. 

Cherokee Nation Foundation

The Cherokee Nation Foundation is a nonprofit organization serving the Cherokee Nation, a federally recognized tribe of more than 470,000 citizens. Its mission is to provide educational opportunities to Cherokee students so they can reach their full potential. The Cherokee Nation Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Scholarships

Cherokee Nation Foundation offers a diverse range of scholarships to help reverse the trend of rising student debt. Students may receive up to two CNF scholarships per academic year. All opportunities are reserved for Cherokee Nation citizens, unless otherwise noted in the description.

Bill Rabbit Legacy Art Scholarship

Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited, four-year, higher education institution pursuing a degree in fine arts or art education with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Accepted focuses include drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, traditional beadwork and textiles. Three pictures of artwork must be included with application for consideration. This is a one-year scholarship reserved for Cherokee Nation and United Keetoowah Band citizens residing within the Cherokee Nation jurisdictional area.

The Edward Payson and Bernice Piilani Irwin Scholarship honors Bernice Pi'ilani Irwin, a notable figure in Hawaiian journalism. Open to undergraduate and graduate students residing in Hawaii, the scholarship aims to support those pursuing careers in journalism or communications. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 while attending an accredited U.S. college or university. This scholarship is an excellent opportunity for aspiring journalists to follow in Bernice's footsteps.

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation's Education Awards support innovative educational programs aimed at enhancing the lives of individuals with Down syndrome. This initiative encourages applications for workshops, conferences, and webinars focused on research and medical advancements. Eligible applicants must be members of the foundation or recognized 501(c)(3) organizations, ensuring impactful contributions that benefit the Down syndrome community. With no funding limits for consecutive years, this program promotes significant educational outreach and advocacy.

The Guy Bradley Award, established in 1988 by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), honors individuals who have made significant contributions to wildlife law enforcement. Named after the first wildlife officer killed in the line of duty, this award recognizes the vital role of law enforcement agents in wildlife conservation. Eligible candidates include current and retired personnel from state and federal agencies who have demonstrated exemplary dedication to protecting wildlife and advancing enforcement goals.

The Beacon Scholarship for Rural America, sponsored by Carrot-Top Industries, Inc., offers $1,000 scholarships to support low-income students from rural areas pursuing higher education. Eligible applicants must be graduating high school seniors, current college students, or adult learners with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and reside in a rural area. The scholarship aims to empower students by alleviating financial burdens as they enroll in accredited college programs.

The Trails Capacity Program, previously known as the Trail Fund Grant, aims to enhance community capacity for trail maintenance, research, and stewardship training across the nation. The program focuses on supporting non-Forest Service Federal lands, as well as state and local areas, fostering inclusivity and improved user behavior. By collaborating with diverse trail partners, it seeks to ensure effective stewardship and sustainable trail management, ultimately promoting public access and enjoyment of America's natural landscapes.

The Inspired to Serve Scholarship Fund honors Seigo and Hisaye Kagawa, providing support for Kauai residents pursuing graduate studies in social justice, public service, education, or health. Established in 2016, it aims to assist students who demonstrate financial need, maintain a GPA of 3.0, and commit to full-time studies at colleges in Hawaii or the mainland. This initiative encourages future leaders to engage with their communities and contribute to meaningful change.

The Lucille M. Tiro Scholarship, offered by the Delaware Community Foundation, provides a one-time award of $1,000 to a graduating female senior from the Indian River School District. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement and financial need, with preference given to those pursuing degrees in the Arts. This scholarship is part of a broader initiative by DCF, which awarded a record $850,000 to 245 students for the 2024-2025 school year, fostering educational opportunities in Delaware.

The OVC FY 2026 Preventing Trafficking of Girls program aims to provide crucial prevention and early intervention services for girls at risk of human trafficking. This initiative, backed by the US DOJ's Office of Justice Programs, supports efforts to protect vulnerable populations, including young women up to age 25, from both sex and labor trafficking. Applicants are encouraged to outline their strategies to effectively serve survivors and address diverse needs in their proposals.

The Cloutier-Valenti Legacy Scholarship, funded by the Delaware Community Foundation, offers a one-time award of $1,000 to graduating seniors from selected high schools in Delaware. Eligible students must enroll in an accredited institution, demonstrate financial need, and show involvement in community activities. The scholarship aims to support students pursuing degrees in science, contributing to the foundation's mission of enhancing educational opportunities and equity in the community.

The Lymphoma Research Foundation's Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants support early career researchers dedicated to lymphoma research. Awarding a total of $195,000 over three years, the grant focuses on hypothesis-driven studies relevant to Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Eligible projects include laboratory and clinical research, with a strong emphasis on significant contributions to understanding lymphoma's etiology, immunology, and treatment. Grantees are expected to dedicate 80% of their time to research, ensuring impactful advancements in the field.

The Clinical Investigator Career Development Award offered by the Lymphoma Research Foundation aims to support early-career physician researchers in developing new lymphoma therapies. With a total funding of $375,000 over three years, the program provides salary support and incidental funds for research supplies and professional development. Eligible candidates must have no more than six years of experience post-training, focusing on clinical research design and implementation to enhance their skills and career trajectory.

The MBF Small Grants Program supports conservation projects for monarch butterflies and their habitats, primarily in Mexico. It aims to fund initiatives focusing on habitat conservation, scientific research, education, and sustainable development. Grants are primarily awarded to Mexican organizations and individuals, with a preference for those with relevant experience. Projects should enhance local livelihoods and promote environmental awareness within the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.

The Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre Teacher of the Year Award, presented by The ASCAP Foundation and the Educational Theatre Association, recognizes outstanding middle and high school musical theatre teachers. Awarded annually, the recipient, selected by a panel of experts, will receive a $5,000 prize and be honored at the EdTA Theatre Education Conference in Minneapolis, MN. This prestigious award highlights the significant impact of dedicated educators in shaping the future of musical theatre.

At the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, we work with donors, grantees, and advisors to address key community issues.

Mike and Lillian & Charles and Anne Boonstra Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Lillian Boonstra, who established the Mike and Lillian & Charles and Anne Boonstra Scholarship Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Lillian was born and raised in Muskegon. She married Mike Boonstra, who, along with his brother Charles, owned the Boonstra Brothers Coal Co. on Western Ave for many years. Mike was one of the originators of radio station WMUS, a well-known country music radio station. Mike died a tragic death in 1981. He and Lillian were childless but always had candy for the neighborhood children. They were affectionately known as the candy lady and man. Not only was the Community Foundation a beneficiary of Lillian’s generosity, but also her church and others. The Boonstra Fund will be used to assist students attending any college, university or technical degree program, in addition to those pursuing careers in Christian vocation and service.

The Morton Gould Young Composer Awards, presented by The ASCAP Foundation, support emerging composers under 30 by recognizing their original concert music. This prestigious award honors Morton Gould's legacy and offers monetary prizes to recipients. Eligible entrants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, aged at least 13, and can submit one original work. Previous winners of three or more awards are ineligible, ensuring a fair opportunity for new talents.

Paul and Libby Kara Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Paul M. Kara, who established the Paul and Libby Kara Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. The Paul and Libby Kara Scholarship Fund helps graduating seniors or adult/returning students with significant financial need. It is designed to help students with the "last dollars" needed to continue their education. Paul and Libby believe that every student should be able to achieve their educational goals.

The Robert and Jenilie Palla Education Fund offers scholarships to graduating WCPS seniors who have participated in Cross Country and/or Track & Field Teams. This initiative, supported by the Community Foundation of Washington County, Maryland, aims to honor local students and encourage their academic pursuits. With a commitment to enhancing the community's quality of life, the fund exemplifies the importance of education and athletics in shaping future leaders.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Awards to support research training in cystic fibrosis. The program provides up to $66,000 in salary support for the first year and $67,000 for the second year, along with $9,000 for research and travel expenses. Applicants focusing on CFTR protein function restoration or gene correction strategies are encouraged to apply. Open to U.S. citizens and residents, preference is given to recent graduates beginning their research careers.

The Gina M. Finzi Memorial Student Summer Fellowship Program, funded by the Lupus Foundation of America, aims to engage students in lupus research across various disciplines. Six awards of $4,000 each will be granted for projects spanning 10 weeks between May and September 2026. Eligible applicants include undergraduate and graduate/medical students, with specific allocation preferences. This initiative promotes valuable research experiences under the guidance of established faculty at accredited institutions.

The David Nason Journalism Scholarship, established by the Nason family and the American Australian Association, supports Australian journalism students and journalists. It offers up to $20,000 for graduate studies or investigative projects in the US. Eligible applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, and either pursuing graduate studies or have a media project agreement in the US. This scholarship promotes the advancement of journalism through international education and experience.

The Graduate Education Indigenous Scholarships, including the Aurora Indigenous Education Scholarship, support Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders to pursue full-time graduate studies in the US. Offering up to $40,000 for living and educational expenses, this initiative encourages Indigenous individuals to engage in Masters, Ph.D., or Postdoctoral Research. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, actively seeking placement in accredited institutions, and plan to study for at least one year.

Rocket Scholars Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of the parents and alumni of Reeths Puffer Schools, who established the Rocket Scholars Foundation Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. The Rocket Scholars Foundation was created by parents and alumni with two purposes in mind:

• To continue to foster within the school system a culture of rigorous academic achievement for all students and
• To offer those students who have demonstrated high achievement, scholarships to help defray the increasingly expensive tuition costs at colleges, universities and accredited post-secondary vocational and technical schools.
