Mini Grants: Supporting Projects for Older Adults

The Annual Governor’s Conference on Aging, sponsored by the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging (GAC), supports rural communities with populations fewer than 10,000 through a mini-grant program. Designed to aid communities with limited resources in meeting the needs of older adults, these grants range from $200 to $1,000. They assist in various capacities, such as providing training materials, health equipment, kitchen supplies for meal preparation, and development of senior support services.

Funding for these mini-grants is garnered through sponsorships and a silent auction held during the annual conference. Projects completed with grant funds must be documented with photos and financial records, and a report to the GAC is required by year-end.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Title I - Youth Program Services

Provides services to in-school youth ages 14-21, and out-of-school youth ages 16-24 that are intended to help youth focus on career pathways, longer-term academic and occupational learning opportunities, and provide long-term comprehensive service strategies.

The Montana Department of Labor & Industry (MTDLI), in compliance with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), is seeking applications from experienced and qualified organizations to execute essential workforce development through the WIOA Title I - Youth Program.

In doing so, the Department is seeking applicants who:

• Implement service deliver strategies that align with the 406 JOBS initiative and America's Talent Strategy, including:
  • use of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training models,
  • training in Industry Recognized Credentials,

FWP Original Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Program

Program Specifics

The Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Program provides project funding with the goal of enhancing and maintaining OHV recreational opportunities for the benefit of OHV enthusiasts in Montana. It provides grant funding for safety, ethics and education, resource maintenance, protection and improvement projects.

Montana State Parks administers the OHV grant program with funds appropriated by the State Legislature, and is assisted in grant allocation by the Off-Highway Vehicle Advisory Committee (OHVAC). The OHVAC is comprised of citizens throughout Montana who have a vested interest in managing OHV opportunities as a valuable resource. 

The OHV Grant Program awards approximately $150,000 in grant funds annually. Applications for trail steward positions are limited to a $20,000 grant request. All other projects do not have a maximum award amount and will be subject to the review panel and OHVAC funding decisions. 

The Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence: Development Phase (COBRE-D) program aims to enhance biomedical research capacity in IDeA states, which historically receive low NIH funding. By providing critical support for early-career investigators and essential infrastructure, COBRE-D facilitates a long-term vision for institutions. This initiative not only supplements start-up packages for new hires but also establishes research facilities and improves administrative services, paving the way for less-resourced institutions to transition into the COBRE E/S program.

The 2026 Carceral Systems Organizing Grant seeks to support organizations working to eradicate carceral systems, create alternative justice solutions, or pursue system reform by addressing systemic criminalization that disproportionately targets Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) and low-income/poor communities across our five-state region.

We define carceral systems organizing broadly to include all systems that criminalize people’s lives based on race, poverty, gender, immigration status and/or disability. Examples include but are not limited to: 

• Abolition, transformative justice, and alternatives to incarceration
• Ending racial profiling and police brutality
• 'Addressing racial inequities in drug laws
• Child welfare, foster care, child protective services
• Youth incarceration and the school-to-prison pipeline
• Detention and deportation of immigrant communities
• Homeless encampment sweeps and criminalization of survival needs
• Re-entry organizing by and for folks who were recently incarcerated

The Montana Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC Grant provides essential funding for Local Educational Agencies and community organizations to enhance academic enrichment opportunities for students during out-of-school time. The Gianforte Family Foundation, established in 2004, aims to empower Montana youth through robotics clubs. By providing annual sponsorships of up to $1,000 per team or 25% of the team's budget, the foundation encourages engagement in coding and computer science. This initiative aligns with their mission to help individuals and families flourish economically and spiritually, supporting sustainable improvements in their lives. The Gianforte Family Foundation offers Church & School Outreach Grants to empower local Christian churches and schools in Montana. With grants of up to $3,300, the foundation aims to strengthen community outreach through programs that share the Gospel, support families, promote economic flourishing, and provide recovery tools. Eligible applicants must be Christian organizations actively engaging their communities with innovative programs that align with their ministry philosophy.

Tree Planting Grants, formerly known as Arbor Day Grants, provide funding for communities to purchase and plant trees in celebration of Arbor Day. Eligible applicants include city and county governments, Native American tribes, and non-profit organizations. Grants of $350 are available for all communities, while Tree City USA communities can receive $850. Applications are accepted on a first-come basis until funds are depleted, with a signed Arbor Day Proclamation required.
