New Mexico Grants for Nonprofits

The Josh Scholarship ENMU-R, offered by The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, provides financial assistance to residents of Chaves, Lincoln, Otero, or Roosevelt counties pursuing vocational or community college education. Targeting students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, this scholarship supports individuals of all ages and backgrounds, encouraging them to enhance their educational and professional journeys. This initiative aims to empower students in their pursuit of higher education and career development.

Each PLTW Engineering course engages students in interdisciplinary activities like working with a client to design a home, programming electronic devices or robotic arms, or exploring algae as a biofuel source. These activities not only build knowledge and skills in engineering, but also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance.

Through this partnership, Intel Foundation has committed funds to support PLTW grants to schools interested in starting or expanding PLTW programs beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year.

Program Requirements: 

• Grantee must offer at least one PLTW Engineering course in the 2027-2028 academic year and must offer one additional course each academic year of the grant period (two different courses in two years). 
• Schools may implement any PLTW Engineering courses of their choosing. 
• Grantee must complete two years of Grant reporting. 

Grant Award and Distribution Schedule:

  • 2028-2029: $20,000

The Dr. Carolyn Ghazal Dental Assistant Scholarships, offered by the Pacific Dental Services Foundation, provide financial aid of up to $5,000 for eligible dental assistant students. Applicants must be over 18, U.S. citizens or legal residents, and enrolled in a qualifying program. The Jon Wynne Endowment Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, aims to support students pursuing higher education at Doña Ana Community College. This scholarship is designed for individuals with financial need and is open to applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those who identify as BiPOC, LGBTQIA+, or have disabilities. The Community Possible Grant Program by U.S. Bank aims to foster economic and workforce advancement, as well as safe and affordable housing. By partnering with 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, the program seeks to drive lasting change within communities through collaborative grantmaking. Priority is given to organizations that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and that address multiple pillars of work, home, and play. This initiative reflects U.S. Bank's commitment to creating a more equitable society.

The Judith Shelton-Gibson Endowment Scholarship, managed by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, aims to empower students from diverse backgrounds pursuing higher education and professional certifications. This fund supports a wide range of categories, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and those with disabilities, ensuring accessibility for all. Scholarships are available for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as vocational training, fostering educational growth throughout the region.

The NM Healthy Forests Reserve Program (HFRP) aims to assist landowners in restoring and protecting forestland through voluntary easements and cost-share agreements. It promotes the recovery of endangered species, enhances biodiversity, and improves carbon sequestration. The program provides financial assistance to landowners, incentivizing them to enhance their land's ecological value while ensuring protections under the Endangered Species Act. Enrollment options include various agreements, allowing landowners to receive significant support for conservation practices.

The SFCF: Envision Fund (LGBTQ+) Grant, managed by the Santa Fe Community Foundation, champions the health and empowerment of underserved LGBTQ+ communities in New Mexico. Since 1997, it has awarded over $1 million to nonprofits dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive environment, combating discrimination, and promoting holistic health. The fund prioritizes initiatives like HIV prevention and comprehensive reproductive health services, aiming for a vibrant, equitable future for all.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant for schools to implement the PLTW Biomedical Science program for the 2026-2029 academic years. Eligible schools can receive up to $14,000 to cover participation fees and training costs. This grant encourages public, private, and charter schools across the U.S. to enhance their science curriculum, supporting students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Schools must commit to offering specific courses during the grant period to qualify for funding.

The New Mexico Match Fund, administered by the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), provides vital financial support to state agencies, tribal governments, and municipalities. This fund offers three grant programs aimed at helping eligible entities secure federal grants that require local matching funds. With a commitment to support rural, frontier, and tribal communities, the DFA facilitates increased competitiveness for federal funding opportunities while ensuring efficient application reviews within 20 business days.

With a commitment to volunteerism and philanthropy, the foundation prioritizes organizations that promote healthy living and cultural belonging. Eligible applicants must be local nonprofits with a current nonprofit status. The NM Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) aims to protect agricultural viability by limiting non-agricultural uses on eligible lands. This program benefits private and tribal landowners by preserving croplands, grasslands, and wetlands, ensuring long-term agricultural productivity. The program provides financial assistance for Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) and Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE), contributing significantly to environmental quality, wildlife habitat, and public benefits. Eligible participants include various landowners and governmental entities committed to conservation.

The NM Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a year-round initiative by the NRCS aimed at assisting farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners in implementing conservation practices. It provides technical and financial support to address natural resource concerns such as soil health, water quality, and wildlife habitat. Eligible applicants include agricultural producers and owners of non-industrial private forestland, among others. The program promotes sustainable farming practices that enhance environmental resilience while improving agricultural productivity.

The NM Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) by the USDA NRCS is a year-round application program aimed at supporting agricultural producers in enhancing conservation efforts. With deadlines for FY 2024 sign-ups and renewals, CSP emphasizes comprehensive resource management, allowing producers to improve crop yields, reduce costs, and meet conservation thresholds. About

The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department was created in 1987 through a merger between the Natural Resources Department and the Energy and Minerals Department. The individual administrative pieces of the department have been around much longer than that, though.

The State Parks Commission was established in 1933, followed by the Oil Conservation Commission in 1935, and the Soil and Water Conservation Commission in 1937. The latter group was transferred in 1997 to the Department of Agriculture.

The Department of State Forestry was created in 1957. The Coal Surface Commission was formed in 1972.

Both the original Energy and Minerals Department and the Natural Resources Department came into being in 1977 and existed as separate agencies until the 1987 merger.

The New Mexico Youth Conservation Corps was established and administratively attached to EMNRD in 1992. The following year marked the creation of the Mining Commission.

The present-day Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department consists of seven divisions and employs approximately 415 people at 48 different work sites around the state.

Natural Heritage Conservation Act (NHCA) Program Grant

The State of New Mexico, Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD), Forestry Division (Forestry Division) is seeking applications from state agencies, public educational institutions, political subdivisions of the state, or, nation, tribe, or pueblo for conservation projects under the Natural Heritage Conservation Act (NHCA) Program. Applicants may partner with conservation entities that are a private nonprofit charitable corporation or trust.

The purpose of the Natural Heritage Conservation Act is to protect the state’s natural heritage, customs, and culture by funding conservation and agricultural easements and by funding land restoration to protect the land and water available for forests and watersheds, natural areas, wildlife and wildlife habitat, agricultural production on working farms and ranches, outdoor recreation and trails and land and habitat restoration and management.

The TourWest Grants, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, aim to support presenters and organizations in the Western region by providing flexible funding for touring artists. This competitive grant encourages community engagement and outreach, fostering collaboration between artists and local communities. It prioritizes accessibility to the performing arts, especially in underserved areas. Applicants must be tax-exempt organizations or local government units and demonstrate a commitment to community needs through their projects.
