New Mexico Grants for Nonprofits

The Ernest Morgan Memorial Scholarship, managed by CommunityGiving, supports central Minnesota student athletes and leaders to pursue higher education outside their home states. This scholarship aims to expand students' horizons and experiences, with a total award of $5,000 available. Open to high school seniors from specific schools, applicants are encouraged to apply online and demonstrate their leadership or athletic skills. This initiative enhances educational opportunities and fosters personal growth among local youth.

The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation offers General Operating Grants aimed at 501(c)(3) nonprofits that serve the west side of Salt Lake City. Grants of up to $10,000, with an average of $5,000, support initiatives in health, shelter, education, economic self-reliance, and cultural enrichment. Applications are reviewed monthly. Organizations must be registered as nonprofits and align with the Foundation's focus areas to be eligible for funding.

The Greenwood Fund Grant, managed by The Denver Foundation, offers small grants for the conservation of museum artifacts and collections care in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Targeting small museums with conservation budgets under $1 million, it prioritizes projects focused on the treatment of art and collections care. Eligible entities must be 501(c)(3) organizations and open to the public. The fund does not support expenses like building expansions or digitizing projects.

The Lowell R. Duhrsen II Memorial Endowment Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, supports students pursuing higher education and professional certifications. The scholarship is open to diverse groups, including BiPOC individuals, those with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ students. It aims to enhance educational opportunities across various fields, reflecting the foundation's mission to improve quality of life in the region through charitable giving and support for meaningful causes.

The Sabbatical Research and Education Grant, offered by Western SARE, enables faculty worldwide to collaborate with farmers and researchers in the Western U.S. This program focuses on conducting innovative research and educational outreach in underserved regions, with an emphasis on unexplored topics. Grants up to $75,000 are available for projects spanning one year, promoting agricultural sustainability and community involvement.

The Michael D. and Cynthia E. Pinholster Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, supports undergraduate students attending New Mexico State University. This scholarship aims to empower diverse individuals, including those from BiPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, students with disabilities, and those pursuing various educational paths. By providing financial assistance, the scholarship helps enhance the quality of life and educational opportunities in the region.

The RMEF Grant Program lies at the core of advancing our mission.

RMEF established the program in 1986 to provide financial and logistical support to projects that align with our priorities and goals. Grant funds raised by RMEF members, volunteers and generous donors from across the country translate into significantly more conservation accomplishment when matched with partner funds. The RMEF Grant Program also aims to build recognition for RMEF’s work, grow engagement, and boost local fundraising efforts.

Governed by clear guidelines and criteria, the RMEF Grant Program seeks to foster meaningful collaborations and long-term impacts in the conservation of natural resources and outdoor traditions. Grant project partners include federal, state, local, and tribal wildlife and land management agencies, private landowners and local stakeholders, sportsmen and women, and conservation organizations, universities, foundations and the outdoor industry. Eligible projects primarily focus on habitat stewardship, land conservation and access, wildlife management, and hunting heritage.

We support organizations recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)3 entity, federal, state, local, or tribal government entities, sportsmen’s organizations, or educational institutions. All applicants must have a Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS. RMEF does not offer grants to individuals.

Wildlife Management and Research

RMEF funds wildlife management and research to keep big game healthy and thriving, including disease surveillance, big game-friendly fencing, road management, and scientific studies that expand our understanding of big game habitat, movement, interactions, and overall herd health.

RMEF’s 2026 priorities include:

• Research on migration + connectivity, critical habitat + nutrition, big game population trajectories, challenges to big game populations, and big game management solutions

Our organization is supported by a broad base of individuals, families, corporations, and institutions connected by the desire to improve Southern New Mexico. We manage over 300 endowments, including 48 non-profit organizational endowments in Southern New Mexico, and are home to over 40 scholarships and nine annual grant cycles. As a center for charitable giving we support the arts, feed the hungry, expand literacy, improve health, and support countless other meaningful causes in the twelve counties including: Catron, Chaves, Doña Ana, Eddy, Grant, Hidalgo, Lea, Lincoln, Luna, Otero, Sierra & Socorro.

Myra Covarrubias Special Needs Scholarship

To support a college junior or senior at New Mexico State University majoring in Special Education

The Invasive/Noxious Plants Grant, administered by the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, aims to combat invasive plant species threatening local ecosystems. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $40,000 support projects that utilize integrated management practices and partnerships to eradicate plants on the New Mexico Noxious Weed List. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, municipal entities, and tribes, with a requirement for 1:1 matching funds from non-federal sources.

The Anne Ray Internship at the School for Advanced Research (SAR) offers two nine-month positions for recent college graduates and junior museum professionals. Interns gain hands-on experience in educational programming, research, and collections management, while receiving a salary, housing, and professional development opportunities. One internship is specifically designated for an indigenous individual from the U.S. or Canada, emphasizing diversity and community engagement within the museum field.

The Ron and Susan Dubin Native Artist Fellowship, part of the Indian Arts Research Center, provides support for Native American artists through a three-month residency. Artists receive a monthly stipend, housing, studio space, and access to collections, encouraging exploration and creativity in various disciplines including painting, photography, and performance. Applications are open to indigenous individuals from North America, and the fellowship emphasizes traditional artistry, running from June 15 to August 15.

The Resident Scholars: Mellon Foundation Fellowship offers annual support to up to six scholars who have completed their research and need time to finalize manuscripts or dissertations. This competitive fellowship, administered by the School for Advanced Research, emphasizes proposals with empirical significance and cultural context. Eligible scholars include those with doctorates at the assistant professor level or PhD candidates. The nine-month fellowship provides an office, low-cost housing, and a stipend, fostering a collaborative and intellectually enriching environment.

The Katrin H. Lamon Fellowship, offered by the School for Advanced Research, provides a nine-month residential opportunity for Native scholars in the humanities and social sciences. This fellowship includes a stipend of $40,000 for doctoral scholars and $35,000 for PhD candidates, alongside low-cost housing and office space. It aims to support research that contributes to understanding human culture and history, fostering an environment of scholarly exchange and intellectual growth.

The Resident Scholars: Weatherhead Fellowship offers annual support for up to six scholars from the humanities and social sciences to prepare manuscripts or dissertations. Funded by the Weatherhead Foundation, this nine-month fellowship includes a stipend of $40,000 for doctoral scholars and $35,000 for PhD candidates, along with low-cost housing and office space on the SAR campus. Applications open each September, with a deadline in early November, fostering research that enhances understanding of human culture and history.

The NmSU Alamogordo Foundation Scholarship aims to support NMSU-A students pursuing degrees in technology, nursing, or those who are veterans. Offered by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, this scholarship is inclusive, providing financial assistance to a diverse range of applicants, including those from various backgrounds and educational paths. It encourages students actively enrolled in higher education or professional certifications to apply, ensuring access to educational opportunities for all.

The NMSU Sigma Nu Memorial Scholarship Endowment honors Eddie Jaramillo and supports students pursuing higher education in business at NMSU. Managed by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, it aims to enhance educational opportunities for diverse individuals, including those from BiPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disability communities. This scholarship reflects a commitment to fostering academic growth and professional development, ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to succeed.

The Over the Rainbow Scholarship supports non-traditional female undergraduate students with financial need attending New Mexico State University or Doña Ana Community College. Offered by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, this scholarship aims to empower diverse students, including those from marginalized backgrounds and those pursuing various educational avenues. The foundation manages over 300 endowments and provides resources to help improve the quality of life in Southern New Mexico.

The Kids' Chance of New Mexico Scholarship offers financial assistance to children of New Mexico workers who have been severely injured or killed in workplace accidents. Established in 2011, this 501(c)(3) organization aims to support these students in their pursuit of higher education. Scholarships may cover tuition, books, housing, and other educational expenses. Eligible applicants must be New Mexico residents aged 16-25, maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program aims to enhance biomedical research capacity in underfunded states by fostering collaborations among research institutions. By supporting faculty research, mentoring, and student involvement, INBREs create pathways for undergraduate students to enter biomedical careers. This initiative not only promotes institutional partnerships but also strengthens research infrastructure, ultimately contributing to a more robust scientific community in IDeA states.

The New Mexico Children's Foundation (NMCF) offers annual grants aimed at supporting 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in New Mexico that serve children in underserved communities. This year, NMCF prioritizes programs that promote social-emotional development and enhance educational opportunities. Grants of up to $10,000 are available to programs that address unmet needs for children aged 18 and younger, particularly in rural areas. Operating expenses are also eligible for funding.

The Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation's Community Engagement program offers sponsorships and community grants aimed at improving health equity for underserved populations in New Mexico. With a commitment to volunteerism and philanthropy, the foundation prioritizes organizations that promote healthy living and cultural belonging. Eligible applicants must be local nonprofits with a current nonprofit status. This initiative reflects a deep-rooted tradition of service and community support, inspired by the foundation's legacy of caring.

Native American Preparatory Scholars Fund

The Native American Preparatory Scholars (NAPS) Fund was established in 2012 from the remaining assets of the former Native American Preparatory School located in Rowe, NM. The purpose of the fund is to support programs that increase the number of New Mexico Native American students who shall aspire to, be prepared for, and graduate from colleges and universities.

To accomplish this mission, New Mexico Community Foundation is pleased to announce a funding opportunity through our NAPS Fund.

505 Southwestern® New Mexico True Scholarship

505 Southwestern® New Mexico True Scholars is a scholarship program designed to recognize passion and commitment to pursue higher education and make a positive impact on the agriculture industry in New Mexico. One recipient for the $5,000 scholarship is selected annually. Scholarship is awarded in equal payments over 4 years of undergraduate study.

Alfred P. Corral Endowment Fund

Scholarships for Hispanic students, with a preference for students from Mexico with a preference for students enrolled at DACC

The Kerr Foundation Inc. offers grants to 501(c)3 organizations, focusing on education, arts, health, and human services. Priority is given to Oklahoma entities, but applications from neighboring states and Washington D.C. are also accepted. The foundation supports various project types, including capital, program, and operating expenses. Note that back-to-back grants are not allowed, enforcing a three-year gap for reapplication after funding. This ensures a broad and impactful reach for community development.
