Your Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM) serves as a vehicle for people of all means to make a lasting impact on quality of life in our region now and in the future. Our organization is supported by a broad base of individuals, families, corporations, and institutions connected by the desire to improve Southern New Mexico. We manage over 300 endowments, including 48 non-profit organizational endowments in Southern New Mexico, and are home to over 40 scholarships and nine annual grant cycles. As a center for charitable giving we support the arts, feed the hungry, expand literacy, improve health, and support countless other meaningful causes in the twelve counties including: Catron, Chaves, Doña Ana, Eddy, Grant, Hidalgo, Lea, Lincoln, Luna, Otero, Sierra & Socorro.

Myra Covarrubias Special Needs Scholarship

To support a college junior or senior at New Mexico State University majoring in Special Education

The NmSU Alamogordo Foundation Scholarship aims to support NMSU-A students pursuing degrees in technology, nursing, or those who are veterans. Offered by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, this scholarship is inclusive, providing financial assistance to a diverse range of applicants, including those from various backgrounds and educational paths. The NMSU Sigma Nu Memorial Scholarship Endowment honors Eddie Jaramillo and supports students pursuing higher education in business at NMSU. The Over the Rainbow Scholarship supports non-traditional female undergraduate students with financial need attending New Mexico State University or Doña Ana Community College. Offered by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, this scholarship aims to empower diverse students, including those from marginalized backgrounds and those pursuing various educational avenues. The foundation manages over 300 endowments and provides resources to help improve the quality of life in Southern New Mexico.

The WNAN Natural History Research Grant supports research in biological natural history within western North America. Grants of up to $2,500 are available for five authors to assist with travel, supplies, and other research-related expenses. This initiative particularly encourages applicants from institutions where research is not the primary focus, aiming to foster diverse contributions to natural history.

The Kids' Chance of New Mexico Scholarship offers financial assistance to children of New Mexico workers who have been severely injured or killed in workplace accidents. Established in 2011, this 501(c)(3) organization aims to support these students in their pursuit of higher education. Scholarships may cover tuition, books, housing, and other educational expenses. Eligible applicants must be New Mexico residents aged 16-25, maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Globe Life Texas Rangers Baseball and Softball Grant Program supports nonprofit baseball and softball initiatives across five states, including Texas and Arkansas. This program aims to enhance youth sports by providing funding for essential needs such as field renovations, equipment, and uniforms. Since 2012, it has awarded over $1.1 million to more than 150 organizations, ensuring children have access to the joy and community of sports. The NIOSH Miner Safety and Health Training Program aims to enhance health and safety training for miners in the Western United States. With mining fatalities significantly higher than the national average, this initiative seeks to address critical training needs by developing effective programs, increasing qualified instructors, and ensuring compliance with existing safety guidelines. By focusing on culturally appropriate training methods and collaborative efforts with other agencies, the program aims to reduce injuries and fatalities in the mining sector.

The IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program aims to enhance biomedical research capacity in underfunded states by fostering collaborations among research institutions. By supporting faculty research, mentoring, and student involvement, INBREs create pathways for undergraduate students to enter biomedical careers. This initiative not only promotes institutional partnerships but also strengthens research infrastructure, ultimately contributing to a more robust scientific community in IDeA states.

The Safeway Foundation offers grants to nonprofit organizations in Denver, focusing on health, hunger, education, veterans, and diversity. Grants typically range from $500 to $5,000 for first-time applicants, with higher amounts available for established organizations. Eligibility requires a valid 501(c)(3) designation and a commitment to serving the local community. The Foundation does not fund individuals, political or religious organizations, or fundraising events. Applications are reviewed quarterly, with an 8-week response time.

The Resident Scholars: Weatherhead Fellowship offers annual support for up to six scholars from the humanities and social sciences to prepare manuscripts or dissertations. Funded by the Weatherhead Foundation, this nine-month fellowship includes a stipend of $40,000 for doctoral scholars and $35,000 for PhD candidates, along with low-cost housing and office space on the SAR campus. Applications open each September, with a deadline in early November, fostering research that enhances understanding of human culture and history.

The Katrin H. Lamon Fellowship, offered by the School for Advanced Research, provides a nine-month residential opportunity for Native scholars in the humanities and social sciences. This fellowship includes a stipend of $40,000 for doctoral scholars and $35,000 for PhD candidates, alongside low-cost housing and office space. It aims to support research that contributes to understanding human culture and history, fostering an environment of scholarly exchange and intellectual growth.

The Region 4 Professional Development Awards for 2025-2026 foster the growth of health information access and data science skills among network members. This funding supports diverse projects such as workshops, conferences, and educational activities aimed at enhancing the professional capacity of individuals affiliated with NNLM Region 4. By encouraging proposals that address the needs of underrepresented communities, the awards aim to improve health information services and access across the region.

Economic Development New Mexico

The mission of the Economic Development New Mexico is to improve the lives of New Mexico families by increasing economic opportunities and providing a place for businesses to thrive.

Our programs and initiatives support our mission. The New Mexico Partnership is a statutorily-created public-private organization under contract to the department to market the state globally in order to attract new jobs and investment. Department programs provide direct assistance to New Mexico businesses and communities.

Creative Support Organization Grant

This funding opportunity is designed for organizations with a demonstrated history of impactful work in supporting creative entrepreneurs and advancing creative industry development across New Mexico. This includes organizations that support creative industry companies and workers. Whether building networks, offering technical assistance, providing creative business incubation, or strengthening regional creative ecosystems, this grant supports continued leadership in growing New Mexico’s creative economy. Open to local governments, Nations, Tribes, Pueblos, nonprofits, and for-profit organizations.

The grant funds groups that serve creative entrepreneurs, businesses, and workers through technical assistance, business incubation, workforce development, and creative ecosystem and network building.

The Resident Scholars: Mellon Foundation Fellowship offers annual support to up to six scholars who have completed their research and need time to finalize manuscripts or dissertations. This competitive fellowship, administered by the School for Advanced Research, emphasizes proposals with empirical significance and cultural context. Eligible scholars include those with doctorates at the assistant professor level or PhD candidates. The nine-month fellowship provides an office, low-cost housing, and a stipend, fostering a collaborative and intellectually enriching environment.

What does this program do?

It provides loans and grants to Microenterprise Development Organizations (MDOs) to:

• To help microenterprises startup and growth through a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund.
• Provide training and technical assistance to microloan borrowers and micro entrepreneurs.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico is committed to enhancing community health through grants and sponsorships. They focus on key areas such as economic opportunity, nutrition, and health outcomes, ensuring alignment with their mission. Organizations eligible for funding must be based in New Mexico and meet specific criteria, while projects that promote discrimination or are unrelated to their mission are ineligible. This initiative highlights their dedication to fostering a healthier community.

The Ron and Susan Dubin Native Artist Fellowship, part of the Indian Arts Research Center, provides support for Native American artists through a three-month residency. Artists receive a monthly stipend, housing, studio space, and access to collections, encouraging exploration and creativity in various disciplines including painting, photography, and performance. Applications are open to indigenous individuals from North America, and the fellowship emphasizes traditional artistry, running from June 15 to August 15.

The Anne Ray Internship at the School for Advanced Research (SAR) offers two nine-month positions for recent college graduates and junior museum professionals. Interns gain hands-on experience in educational programming, research, and collections management, while receiving a salary, housing, and professional development opportunities. One internship is specifically designated for an indigenous individual from the U.S. or Canada, emphasizing diversity and community engagement within the museum field.

The Sundance Institute's Native Lab Application aims to support emerging filmmakers and episodic creators from U.S.-based Native American, Native Hawaiian, Alaskan Native, and Indigenous communities, as well as Indigenous Canadian artists. This initiative nurtures independent storytelling and creativity, providing vital resources and opportunities for underrepresented voices in film. Eligible applicants must submit a narrative feature or episodic pilot script. The program will accept three U.S.-based projects and one Canada-based project, with activities held virtually and in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The FY26 Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) Capacity Building opportunity aims to enhance the capabilities of university researchers in eligible states. Managed by the DoD, this initiative focuses on increasing the number of researchers capable of conducting relevant science and engineering research. The program also seeks to strengthen institutions of higher education and improve their competitiveness for federal research funding, ultimately fostering long-term growth in financial assistance for scientific research.

The Patterson Foundation offers Assistance Dog Program Grants to support organizations providing service animals to veterans and individuals with disabilities. Funding is available for projects that expand capacity, personnel costs related to puppy training, and program support aimed at improving client experiences. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) non-profits and can request grants up to $35,000 for capital projects or $10,000 for program support. Applications are accepted through a two-step process.

The Bill Armstrong Grant, established by the New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists, honors a founding member dedicated to ceramics education. This annual grant supports 501(c)(3) organizations and educational institutions in New Mexico, providing funding for supplies, artist contracts, and promotional activities related to ceramic art. Awards up to $1000 are available, contingent on Board approval based on merit and specific needs. This initiative fosters creativity and excellence in the clay arts community.
