Adam Johnston Memorial Scholarship

The Adam Johnston Memorial Scholarship honors the young life of its namesake, son of Tom and Ruth Johnston of Marion. Adam passed away a few weeks prior to his 8th birthday, while a second grader at Ridgedale. He died following a surgical attempt to correct his congenital heart defect.

This scholarship was created in 2000 to preserve the memory of this cheerful, gregarious, and unflappable little boy who made everyone around him smile. It is his parents’ intent that the scholarship will help his former classmates and others remember their son.

Adam’s scholarship makes awards to Ridgedale High School graduating seniors scoring in the upper 50th percentile of the ACT or SAT. Recipients must have, at a minimum, attended Ridgedale their entire senior year.

The Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant supports entry-level athletics administrative positions for one academic year, promoting diversity in NCAA Division II. It provides $30,000 for intern salaries and $3,000 for professional development, benefiting six schools annually from a total budget of $180,000. Eligible applicants must be active NCAA members, with a focus on enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in athletics administration. This initiative encourages professional growth and compliance in diverse environments.

The Integrated Maternal Wellness Pilot Project, initiated by the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health, aims to enhance integrated health care services for pregnant and parenting women struggling with substance use disorders in Northwestern and Western rural Ohio. Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award

The purpose of the Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award is to recognize the scientific contribution of a new investigator who has conducted nursing research that has the potential to enhance the science and practice of nursing.

The James M. Cox Foundation Grant offers support to nonprofit organizations focused on conservation, early childhood education, family empowerment, and health. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and located in areas where Cox Enterprises operates. Grant applications are accepted year-round, with deadlines before Trustee meetings. Preference is given to organizations with a history of local engagement. This foundation embodies the philanthropic spirit of its founder, James M. Cox, by giving back to the community.

The Huntington Impact Investment Philanthropy Grant Program aims to strengthen communities by supporting nonprofit organizations that enhance self-sufficiency and social equality. Established in 2018, the fund focuses on restoring vital ecosystems like marshes and reefs to mitigate flooding impacts. With rising sea levels and increasing storm intensity, NCRF invests in community-led projects that foster resilience, ensuring both people and wildlife can adapt to changing environmental conditions.

MNRS Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an MNRS member who has demonstrated sustained influential leadership and service to the organization, such as chairing committees, organizing annual conference activities, or serving on the Board of Directors. 

The Congresswoman Shontel Brown Cross the Finish Line Scholarship, established in 2023, honors the legacy of U.S. Representatives Louis Stokes, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and Marcia Fudge. It supports African-American residents of Ohio's 11th Congressional District pursuing postsecondary degrees. Three scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded for the 2025/2026 academic year, aimed at students enrolled at least half-time. This non-renewable scholarship encourages new and previous applicants who meet eligibility criteria.

The Hazardous Materials Training and Planning Grant, offered by the Ohio Public Utilities Commission, aims to enhance public safety by funding training for emergency services personnel on managing hazardous materials spills during transportation. Sponsored by the SkillPointe Foundation, this initiative addresses the skills gap by funding scholarships for various fields, including manufacturing, energy, and construction. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and reside in specific locations. The program aims to empower individuals with hands-on skills and industry-recognized credentials.

Stark Community Foundation is one of the area’s major sources of college scholarship support— thanks to the generosity of caring individuals, families and businesses that have created scholarship funds.

The Foundation currently manages more than 100 scholarship funds that support hundreds of deserving students each year from Stark and Carroll counties. In 2025, more than $1,000,000 was awarded to local students to help them achieve their educational dreams.

The Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers (CRSPE) College Scholarship Fund

The Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers (CRSPE) College Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial support for students who are residents of Stark, Wayne, Richland, Crawford or Ashland counties, will be juniors or seniors (must have completed four semesters) enrolled in an accredited college of engineering in the state of Ohio and expect to receive their bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Targeted at 501(c)(3) organizations and government entities across 14 US states, it aims to enhance cultural tourism by commemorating community stories. Successful applications typically focus on folktales, historical legends, and community traditions, while excluding purely literary works or personal folklore that lacks broader community significance.

The WGPF: Ohio Historical Markers Grant Program, initiated by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation in collaboration with Ohio History Connection, offers grants for historical markers that commemorate significant people, places, and events in Ohio's history from 1800 to 1900. Open to municipalities and nonprofit organizations, the program provides a total of 20 grants across various counties, fostering a deeper appreciation and recognition of Ohio's rich historical heritage.

The Joyce Foundation's Environment Grants focus on addressing critical environmental challenges in the Great Lakes region, such as climate change and water safety. The SK27 Sickle Cell Initiative Continuation Solicitation, administered by the Ohio Department of Health, aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of comprehensive sickle cell services across Ohio. This initiative focuses on supporting individuals of all ages, promoting public awareness, and improving coordination of resources. By collaborating with Regional Sickle Cell Projects, the program emphasizes effective tracking, counseling, and education to address sickle cell-related health disparities and improve outcomes for affected communities.

The Diminished Tree Species Grant Program focuses on restoring native tree species crucial for biodiversity and forest health. By funding scientific research, seed orchard development, and land preservation, the program aims to combat climate change through effective tree restoration projects. The Oak Hill Fund, a private entity, encourages project-specific applications, prioritizing organizations that meet eligibility criteria under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS.
