Abandoned Mine Drainage Abatement and Treatment Program (AMDATP)

Act 13 of 2012 establishes the Marcellus Legacy Fund and allocates funds to the Commonwealth Financing Authority (the “Authority”) for abandoned mine drainage, abatement, and treatment. Abandoned Mine Drainage (AMD) is one of the largest sources of stream impairment in Pennsylvania. Billions of gallons of AMD impair over 5,500 miles of streams within the Commonwealth.

Uses

Projects which involve the reclamation of Abandoned Mine Well(s), construction of a new AMD site, remediation and repair of existing AMD project sites, operation and maintenance maintaining current AMD remediation sites, establishment of trust fund to ensure ongoing maintenance is achieved, and monitoring of water quality to track or continue to trace non-point source load reductions resulting from AMD remediation projects.

Funding

Grants shall be awarded to eligible applicants for projects that do not exceed $1,000,000. The grant requires a least a 15% match of the total project cost.

The Great Apes and Gibbons Program Grant, administered by the Arcus Foundation, supports conservation efforts for great apes and gibbons across 24 priority landscapes in Africa and Asia. The National Forest Foundation's Matching Awards Program connects communities to forests by funding stewardship activities that promote engagement with National Forests and nearby public lands. This program aims to create lasting impacts, ensuring that all communities can benefit from the rich resources of these natural areas. By supporting various projects, the program fosters a deeper relationship between people and the environment, ultimately enhancing conservation efforts and community well-being.

The Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant supports entry-level athletics administrative positions for one academic year, promoting diversity in NCAA Division II. It provides $30,000 for intern salaries and $3,000 for professional development, benefiting six schools annually from a total budget of $180,000. Eligible applicants must be active NCAA members, with a focus on enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in athletics administration. This initiative encourages professional growth and compliance in diverse environments.

The STOP Statewide Training and Technical Assistance: Prosecution grant, offered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, aims to enhance the skills of Pennsylvania prosecutors in addressing domestic violence, stalking, and dating violence. This initiative provides essential training and technical assistance to various stakeholders, ensuring a coordinated response to these critical issues. By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, the program seeks to improve overall community safety and support for victims.

The Ralph J. Torraco Scholarship for Seminarian Studies, funded by UNICO Foundation Inc, offers four scholarships worth $1,000 each to full-time seminarians attending accredited Catholic seminaries in the U.S. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, and either reside in specific states or have a UNICO sponsor. This scholarship supports the educational journey of seminarians, reflecting UNICO's commitment to serving the community and promoting Italian American heritage.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) invites applications for funding under the Endowment Act, distributing $48 million from NCAA penalties to support child sexual abuse prevention and victim assistance. This funding specifically targets Multidisciplinary Investigative Teams (MDITs) to develop satellite Child Advocacy Centers (CAC) in counties lacking sufficient cases. The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) intends to issue a Broad Pragmatic Studies (BPS) PCORI Funding Announcement (PFA) on Aug. 4, 2026, seeking to fund high-impact, patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) projects. This preannouncement provides potential applicants additional time to identify collaborators; obtain patient and stakeholder input on potential studies; and develop responsive, high-quality applications. 

Patient-centered CER compares at least two available health treatments, services or care delivery strategies. PCORI seeks proposals that compare clinical interventions (e.g., pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments, screening and diagnostic approaches) and healthcare delivery system interventions (e.g., workforce, technologies, healthcare service delivery designs) to evaluate potential benefits and harms of different treatment and care delivery options, thus generating evidence that empowers patients, caregivers and the broader healthcare community with information to make informed choices that reflect their needs and preferences. 

The Marilyn Lichtman Foundation supports non-profit organizations that align with its mission of aiding those in need, preserving wildlife, and assisting American armed forces and veterans. Grant applications must comply with Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code and the foundation's specific guidelines. However, applications from for-profit organizations, political entities, government bodies, and individuals are not accepted. The foundation aims to make a meaningful impact in the community.

The Abelard Foundation, established in 1958, supports progressive social change projects located east of the Mississippi River. With an average grant size of $12,000, they prioritize new initiatives with budgets under $350,000. The foundation emphasizes community organizing, civil rights, and empowering marginalized groups. Eligible applicants must be associated with a nonprofit organization and demonstrate a commitment to local leadership and broader policy connections. The board meets biannually to decide on approximately 15 grants per year, focusing mainly on general support.

The Alston Beech Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations with clear, identifiable needs in the North Central Philadelphia area. Grants are available for strategic planning, program expansion, organizational capacity building, and initiatives focused on education, arts, and community safety. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) certified, operational for at least two years, and comply with specific income and employment criteria. Applications are limited to one per organization annually, promoting sustainable community development.

CommonSpirit Health offers the Community Health Improvement Grant to enhance health equity and service systems for underserved populations. Through collaborative efforts with 501(c)(3) organizations, this initiative provides financial support for essential health projects. Grant amounts range from $19,500 for small grants to $150,000 for standard grants, varying by hospital. Participating hospitals include those under Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health, aimed at addressing significant community health needs.

Ted Gacomis Scholarship for Civil Engineering

Mission Statement

Ted Gacomis worked with several civil engineering firms in Chester County. For thirty plus years, he was part of Edward B. Walsh (EBW) & Associates, based in Exton, PA, where he became a Partner and Vice President. The EBW family and the many County township officials with whom he worked were a very important part of his life.

Ted offered his engineering skills to many organizations as a volunteer, including Habitat for Humanity and Operation Honduras, the latter holding a very special place in his heart as he volunteered there for more than twelve years.

Ted was more than a Civil Engineer; it was very important to him to mentor and support future generations of young men and women in his profession. He offered his time and knowledge freely and was never too busy to answer a question. Along with this “teaching” came, of course, the jokes and sense of humor he loved to share.

He was born in Kingston, PA and graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School. He then attended the Pennsylvania State University to study Civil Engineering, which was followed by receiving his engineering license. Prior to joining EBW, Ted’s first professional employment was with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where he continued his learning, including that of adding to his repertoire of practical jokes. Ted loved to have fun with his co-workers and friends.

A gentleman, scholar, true friend, and a humble man, Ted would be so pleased to be honored with a scholarship bearing his name that would help a young person know what it means to be a person of integrity, compassion and hard work pursuing a degree in civil engineering.

Because Ted was a dear mentor to many, Howell Engineering, a full service civil engineering/land surveying/environmental firm, located in West Chester, PA, will provide, in addition to the scholarship, a summer internship complete with a mentoring opportunity. Engineering interns would be exposed to all facets of civil engineering design and the latest AutoCAD design software as well as drone technology. Howell performs civil site design engineering and land surveying for a wide variety of clients including residential, commercial and industrial real estate developers.

Guidelines

The Ted Gacomis Scholarship for Civil Engineering awards a scholarship of $1,000 to one high school senior, who will pursue a degree in civil engineering and to offer an internship at a local engineering firm.

The FirstBank Charitable Foundation (FBCF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2008, focused on supporting charitable organizations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. With over a million dollars awarded, FBCF aims to enhance community well-being through partnerships in health, housing, and education. Nonprofits aligning with FBCF's mission and demonstrating significant service impact are encouraged to apply for grants, fostering a stronger fabric within their neighborhoods.

The DCNR Circuit Rider Grant offers funding to support the hiring of full-time staff for regional park, recreation, and conservation initiatives. Eligible applicants include county and municipal governments, as well as multi-municipal agencies. Grant funding covers salaries and approved training expenses, decreasing over four years from 100% in the first year to 25% in the fourth year. This program enhances local capacity for effective recreation and conservation management.

The Connelly Foundation Grant, established in 1955, aims to create access and opportunities for those in need, particularly in the Philadelphia area. Focused on education, human services, and cultural initiatives, it supports nonprofits that enhance Catholic education, address essential needs, and promote civic engagement. The Foundation seeks to partner with organizations demonstrating effective leadership and sustainable practices, while avoiding direct grants to individuals or funding for advocacy and charter schools.

The Marvin R. and Pearl E. Patterson Family Fund Scholarship, offered by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, supports students aspiring to study graphic or fine arts, as well as those interested in environmental sciences. Open to high school graduates from the Tri-Cities area, this scholarship considers leadership, community involvement, and academic achievements, although financial need is not a requirement. Applicants must provide transcripts and relevant documents to qualify for this opportunity.

Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry

The Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) employs more than 5,000 workers in 200 offices statewide. Established in 1913, the department originally inspected the working conditions in factories around the state. Over time, the department's responsibilities expanded.

L&I administers benefits to unemployed individuals, oversees the administration of workers' compensation benefits to individuals with job-related injuries, and provides vocational rehabilitation to individuals with disabilities. The department prepares job seekers for the global workforce through employment and job training services for adult, youth, older workers, and dislocated workers. In addition, L&I enforces various laws and safety standards in the workplace and administers the commonwealth's programs for community service by young Pennsylvanians. Pennsylvania’s Workforce Professionals in Digital Infrastructure (WPDI)

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) announces the availability of approximately $2 million in funding through the Workforce Professionals in Digital Infrastructure (WPDI) Grant. One grant will be awarded through a competitive process. L&I developed this grant opportunity as part of a broader, collaborative framework to align workforce strategies with both regional economic development goals and statewide priorities. The WPDI Grant is designed to support the development of a comprehensive investment plan focused on building regional capacity and creating industry-led solutions to ensure Pennsylvanians have the appropriate skills and experiences essential to the construction, power, supply and operations of Pennsylvania’s digital infrastructure—particularly in the data center sector.

The selected awardee will create a regional response team of dedicated partners with the expertise, experience and capacity to jointly address the in-demand workforce needs of a data center located in Salem Township, Luzerne County.

The William Penn Foundation's Arts and Culture Programming aims to enhance access to diverse high-quality arts experiences for all Philadelphians. With a focus on inclusivity and equity, this initiative invites proposals for projects that address historic inequities in arts access and engage communities through performances and exhibitions. Organizations with less than $750,000 in annual expenses are encouraged to apply for funding to support innovative and welcoming arts initiatives that enrich the cultural landscape through 2035.

The Just Born Corporate Giving Grant Program aims to enhance the well-being of children and families in need by supporting initiatives in arts, education, health, and community development. The program focuses on opportunities that benefit underserved populations, emphasizing diverse leadership and community engagement. Grants prioritize projects that promote cultural enrichment, educational access, and essential health services, ultimately fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment for all. Through strategic partnerships, Just Born Quality Confections is committed to making a meaningful impact in its local communities.

The John Crain Kunkel Foundation Grant supports initiatives that enhance the quality of life for individuals in Pennsylvania. Focused on charitable, educational, and scientific purposes, the foundation prioritizes projects in Dauphin, Cumberland, Lebanon, Perry, and Juniata Counties. Grants may extend to organizations outside Pennsylvania that benefit communities within the state. Applications are accepted from January 1st to September 1st, with specific eligibility requirements including proof of tax-exempt status.

The Chester County Community Foundation offers funding through its Field of Interest and Donor Advised Funds, supporting nonprofits in various sectors such as arts, education, and health. Grants range from $500 to $7,500, with proposals accepted year-round. Eligibility requires nonprofits to be based in Chester County and have budgets of $500,000 or less. About Northeast SARE

The Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Program offers grants and education to farmers, educators, service providers, researchers and others to address key issues affecting the sustainability of agriculture throughout our region.

The program serves Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The program is administered by Northeast SARE's host institution, the University of Vermont.

Farming Community Grant Program

The Northeast SARE Farming Community Grant applies social science research and education projects that strengthen farming and food systems at the community level.

These projects explore innovative approaches to improving the health and sustainability of agricultural communities in the Northeast. This program supports projects that are grounded in community partnerships and informed by the lived experiences of farmers. It encourages collaboration among farmers, service providers, researchers, and nonprofit organizations to co-create solutions that are responsive to local needs and scalable across the region.

This program encourages innovative solutions to challenges in farming and food systems in the Northeast USA, including but not limited to the areas of: Marketing and business; Crop production; Raising livestock; Aquaculture; Economic and social sustainability; Ecological knowledge; Projects related to climate and/or bioenergy work that provide direct or indirect benefits to farmers,ranchers, and private foresters; and more.

Technical Assistance Program

Applicants and grantees of the Farming Community Grant Program are eligible for Technical Assistance (TA) provided by Northeast SARE’s Technical Assistance Providers.
