Grand Rapids Community Foundation

Grand Rapids Combined Theatre Scholarships

Open to full-time theatre arts majors at an accredited college/university in the U.S., who also have current or previous involvement in Grand Rapids community theater (Civic, Circle, Actors, Jewish, Heritage, Master Arts theaters), or with the theater program at Aquinas, Calvin, GRCC, or GVSU. Four scholarships are awarded annually, three of those are in honor of Norma Brinks, David and Emma Nicollette and Paul Dreher.

Beckley Area Foundation

Beckley Area Foundation was established in January 1985 by ten community-minded citizens. It began with a gift of $1.1 million from the Dr. Thomas Walker Memorial Health Foundation as “seed” money for this Raleigh County project. BAF assets have grown to over $70 million with over 500 different funds managed by our three trustee banks. Today, Beckley Area Foundation is one of West Virginia’s largest community foundations.

Since its inception, BAF has distributed over $23 million to charities and other worthy projects in the fields of education, public recreation, health & human services, the arts, animal services and beautification.

Scholarships

The Beckley Area Foundation proudly manages scholarship funds established by individuals, businesses, and organizations dedicated to helping students pursue higher education. Many of these scholarships are tailored for specific schools, fields of study, or graduates from local high schools, while others offer broader opportunities. No matter the path, our scholarships aim to support students from our region as they work toward achieving their educational goals.

Most of these scholarships must be awarded to students from our geographic area or at least preference given to such students. While the majority of scholarships benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. 

Ross C. Todd Scholarship

Merit based award open to West Virginia blind students. Both graduating high school seniors and college upperclassmen, which at the time of application have achieved and maintained a 3.0 grade point average or better, are eligible to apply; All other considerations being equal, the two recipients having attained and maintained the highest grade point average within the applicant pool shall be named as recipients; West Virginia residents who are matriculating seniors or students already enrolled in a college/university.

This scholarship is renewable.

The Foundation awards scholarships to nontraditional students, students who are not graduating from high school this academic year, who are continuing their education through degree or certificate programs, seminars, workshops, or customized training. The application is open throughout the year, and applications are reviewed and determined on a quarterly basis. 

Catherine Pratt Memorial Scholarship

Awarded current college students, who are enrolled in Nursing.

The Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties, who are planning to attend a college, university, or trade school. There is one scholarship that is available to students in Cecil County. 

Margaret Ferree Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to students graduating from Talbot County Public Schools.

The ASH Quality Improvement Training Institute (QITI) is a 16-month hybrid training program designed for North American hematology care teams. It aims to empower clinicians as leaders in quality improvement, enhancing patient outcomes and experiences. Participants engage in in-person and virtual workshops, collaborating with faculty to develop clinical quality improvement projects. Key curriculum highlights include multi-disciplinary team strategies, quality improvement assessment tools, and skills for presenting QI work effectively.

Scholarships

The more than 40 scholarship funds at the Foundation were created by generous donors who wanted to help the students in our community achieve a brighter future. We are committed to assisting the most promising students with scholarships for professional certificate programs, two and four-year undergraduate degrees and graduate school. The scholarship funds at the Foundation award grants to high school, community college and university students to be used for tuition, books, and fees.

Harry & Lula McCarn Nurses’ Scholarship

For a student living in Mobile or Baldwin Counties and pursuing a master’s degree in Nursing Administration or other fields of nursing at USA. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. 

The ASH Research Training Award for Fellows (RTAF) supports junior researchers in hematology and hematology-related fields. It offers $70,000 for one year, ensuring dedicated research time. Eligible MD and MD-PhD fellows can apply for a second year, aiding their competitiveness for further awards. The program emphasizes research in hematologic conditions and requires documented mentorship support. Awardees also receive $1,000 for ASH annual meeting attendance, fostering networking and professional development.

The Hematology Inclusion Pathway Fellow Award supports early-career researchers from underrepresented communities in hematology in the U.S. and Canada. Offering up to $100,000 over two to three years, the award enables fellows to focus on hematology research and enhance their competitiveness for future awards. Eligible applicants include those with relevant degrees, who are in their first or second fellowship year, and have a committed ASH member mentor. This initiative aims to diversify the field of academic hematology.

The ASH Medical Educators Institute Grant Program aims to cultivate future leaders in hematology education through a comprehensive training initiative. This program includes workshops, webinars, and mentorship, designed for junior faculty and senior fellows in the U.S. and Canada. Participants enhance their teaching skills, develop scholarly projects, and build valuable professional networks. The initiative promotes diversity in medical education and seeks to empower educators dedicated to advancing the field of hematology.

The ASH Graduate Hematology Award supports graduate students in the U.S. and Canada pursuing research in hematology. Offering a $40,000 annual stipend for two years, it covers tuition, research expenses, and travel to the ASH Annual Meeting. Eligible applicants must be PhD students in their first three years and have a mentor's support. This award aims to foster careers in academic hematology, encouraging innovative research in various hematologic fields.

The ASH Medical Student Physician-Scientist Award offers first-, second-, and third-year medical students a unique chance to engage in hematology research under the mentorship of an ASH member. This year-long project requires recipients to dedicate over 80% of their time to research, with funding totaling $42,000 for various expenses. Eligible candidates must be ASH members and actively enrolled in accredited medical programs in the U.S. or Canada, aiming for a career in hematology.

Health Education Scholarships

One of the many keys to maintaining a healthy, prosperous community is ensuring a sustainable supply of excellent health care providers. Nursing Excellence Scholarship

The Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Nursing Excellence Scholarship was established in 2013 in honor/memory of outstanding Registered Nurses (RNs) at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon.

The Nursing Excellence Scholarship is available to eligible students pursuing RN, BSN or MSN degrees who show leadership and clinical expertise and excellence. At least one scholarship is awarded for tuition, books and school fees.

The St. Andrew's Society Scholarship is designed for graduating seniors from Oregon or Clark County, WA, who plan to pursue higher education in the United States. Eligible applicants must be born in Scotland, have a parent or grandparent who was born in Scotland, or demonstrate a commitment to Scottish cultural activities such as dancing or music. This scholarship supports students in their academic journey while celebrating their Scottish heritage.

Pathway to Careers, a Sedona/Verde Valley CTE Scholarship Summer Courses

This fund is designed to meet the employment needs of the Sedona/Verde Valley area communities through the establishment of a new career pathway. The Fund supports any Sedona/Verde Valley high school graduate currently residing in Sedona/Verde Valley who is already attending, or plans to attend, an accredited community college or technical/vocational school in pursuit of an Associate's degree, license, or certificate.

Northern New York Community Foundation

Since 1929, the Northern New York Community Foundation has invested in improving and enriching the quality of life for all in communities across Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.

• One-time award of $1,000.

Thomas A. & Mary Jo Russo Scholarship

Award:

• 4-year award of $5,000 per year. Students may be eligible to renew their scholarship for up to three additional years, provided they continue in the same degree program.

Anna Belle Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be an undergraduate, graduate student or community member currently pursuing pottery. Three pictures of artwork must be included with application for consideration. This is a one-year scholarship reserved for Cherokee Nation citizens.

The NLN-Health Carousel Foundation Nurse Educator Scholarship Award provides a $8,000 scholarship to nurses who earned their initial nursing degree outside the U.S. and are now licensed in the U.S. This award supports those pursuing advanced degrees to enhance their careers as nurse educators. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and have completed at least one academic year by the application deadline, with funds applicable for tuition, books, and research-related expenses.

Ken Cicerale Memorial Music Scholarship

• One time award of $1,000.
