Home Feeds Nevada Agriculture Food Purchase Program Request for Qualifications

Background

The Home Feeds Nevada Agriculture Food Purchase Program (HFNP) was established with the passage of SB 370 during the 81st Nevada Legislative Session to help Nevada become more food secure and create economic opportunity for Nevada food producers. Through this program, the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) will purchase nutritious foods that are grown, produced, or processed in Nevada and distribute them to designated food banks.

The NDA is accepting applications under this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the following products and/or services:

• Food producers and food processors for products produced or processed in Nevada as listed in Appendix A.
• Storage providers to provide aggregation and storage of products from other vendors as deemed necessary to deliver products to designated food banks. Vendors are not eligible to be paid as storage providers for their own products.
• Transportation providers to transport food to designated food banks. Food producers and processors can be paid to transport their products, and transportation providers can transport product from all approved vendors.

Friends of NRA

Friends of NRA is the National Rifle Association’s premier fundraising program, supporting the future of shooting sports. Since day one, Friends of NRA has been a 100% grassroots effort fueled by a united front to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports.

Committee volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees to make recommendations for local grant funding in areas such as youth education, women-focused clinics, law enforcement training, hunter safety, range improvement, firearms and marksmanship training and safety. Recognizing the impact American youth has on the future of the shooting sports, State Fund Committees frequently recommend grants for youth programs, allocating the most significant portion of monies to this vital area.

Grant awards fund activities and support programs in the United States to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those in the shooting sports, and to educate the public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context.

Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program - Nevada

The Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program provides supplies, equipment, and financial support to a variety of qualified groups and programs at the local level; geared towards youth, women, law enforcement, veterans, the disabled, and the general public, including:

• General shooting programs
• Competitive shooting
• Education, training and safety
• Hunting and conservation
• Community outreach
• Historical education

Grant funding must be used to further a charitable purpose as defined by the Internal Revenue Code under section 501(c)(3) and accompanying rules, regulations, and other IRS law and materials.

The Degree Pathway Scholarships, offered by the Nevada Women’s Fund, empower women in northern Nevada by supporting their pursuit of academic degrees such as associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctorate programs. These scholarships aim to strengthen communities and promote self-sufficiency through education. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in accredited institutions and meet specific eligibility criteria, including a minimum GPA of 3.0. The WNAN Natural History Research Grant supports research in biological natural history within western North America. Grants of up to $2,500 are available for five authors to assist with travel, supplies, and other research-related expenses. This initiative particularly encourages applicants from institutions where research is not the primary focus, aiming to foster diverse contributions to natural history.

The Creative West Artist Fund supports artists and cultural practitioners across 16 states, providing essential funding and resources to enhance their emotional and financial well-being. Rooted in values of Democracy, Wellness, and Belonging, this initiative offers no-strings-attached funding alongside coaching and community care. It aims to empower artists as vital contributors to the creative economy, while promoting equitable and trust-based grantmaking practices. The fund serves to foster a rich creative community through collaboration and support.

Nevada medical students interested in health care research can access funding for 2–12 month projects through the Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship, supporting clinical, laboratory, epidemiology, social science, health services, leadership, or professionalism studies. Offered by Alpha Omega Alpha, this US $7,000 fellowship is open to first- and second-year students at schools with active AΩA chapters or associations.

The Del E. Webb Foundation Grant offers financial support ranging from $5,000 to $3,000,000 for nonprofit organizations operating in Arizona, California, or Nevada. The foundation prioritizes projects that enhance self-sufficiency and have long-term benefits, particularly in child and health initiatives. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) public charities and demonstrate a commitment to community service. The application process involves submitting a Letter of Intent, followed by a formal application if invited.

Nevada-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public institutions serving cultural communities can apply for Nevada Arts Council’s Folklife Community Grant, with awards up to US $5,000 for folk and traditional arts programs. Funding may benefit Nevada groups whose health, wellness, or community initiatives include festivals, cultural events, concerts, gatherings, conferences, or seminars with folk artists and culture bearers.

Undergraduate and graduate students in fields like costume studies, material culture, museum studies, or fashion history in Nevada and other Western Region areas can access internship funding through the Costume Society of America. CSA’s Jack Handford Summer Internship offers approximately US $3,000 for a six-week (120-hour) museum or related placement; student applicants must be CSA Western Region members.

Governor's Office of Federal Assistance

The Governor's Office of Federal Assistance (OFA), was established July 1, 2022 and codified within NRS 223.478-486. The Agency provides a range of grant-related support for the legislatively identified stakeholders. With a mission to increase the number of grant dollars Nevada receives, OFA works to reduce and remove barriers to federal grant funding through providing grant resources, advocacy, and coordination, among federal grant applicants across the state. 

The Governor's Office of Federal Assistance also serves as the single point of contact for Nevada’s federal grant applications that are subject to intergovernmental review, supports the Nevada Advisory Council on Federal Assistance, and works with Nevada’s federal delegation on grant-related initiatives.

Grant Matching Program

The Governor’s Office of Federal Assistance’s Grant Matching Program (GMP) is available for state agencies, local agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits applying for federal or competitive federally funded state pass-through funds within the State of Nevada to meet match/cost share requirements. Applicants must have exhausted all efforts to find available funding, prior to the awarding of the federal grant or up to 90 days after the award date on the federal Notice of Grant Award (NoGA). Grant applications submitted prior to accepting the award will be given priority. 

All applicants must receive a federal or a competitive federally funded state award notification and provide documentation to the Governor’s Office of Federal Assistance. Applications will be reviewed upon submission and awarded throughout the program period on a first-come, firstserved basis. 

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in Nevada and other eligible Intermountain West states can seek US $5,000 - US $100,000 to support child and family mental well-being programs. Intermountain Community Care Foundation supports evidence-based behavioral health initiatives that reduce suicide, anxiety, depression, and substance misuse, build trauma-informed systems, and strengthen community behavioral health capacity.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in Nevada improving nutrition security or providing wraparound housing support can seek US $5,000 - US $100,000 through Social Drivers of Health Grants. Intermountain Community Care Foundation funds new or existing, evidence-based programs that address social determinants of health, including small equipment and materials essential to project success.

The WaterSMART Applied Science Grants aim to enhance water management and supply reliability through innovative research and data utilization. By inviting qualified entities to apply for funding, the program focuses on improving hydrologic data access, forecasting capabilities, and modeling tools. This initiative aligns with federal priorities to optimize resources, ensuring water managers can effectively address future demands and adapt to climate challenges, thus fostering resilience in water operations across the nation.

The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants in Nevada, offered by USDA Rural Development, provide vital funding to help rural communities respond to emergencies threatening reliable drinking water access. Eligible applicants, including local governments and nonprofit organizations, can apply for grants to construct or repair water facilities. This program aims to restore water quality and supply, benefiting populations of 10,000 or less while promoting environmental sustainability and community resilience.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools across the US to implement the PLTW Gateway program for the first time. With total funding of $9,100, the grant covers participation fees and training registration costs. Schools, including public, private, and charter, are encouraged to apply, particularly those serving low-income and minority majority populations. This initiative aims to enhance educational pathways in STEM for diverse student groups.

The NRA Foundation: Nevada Grants provide funding to support charitable purposes aligned with the Foundation's mission. Eligible organizations, including 501(c)(3) entities and government bodies, can apply for funding to promote firearms safety, education, and research. The grants aim to enhance community engagement and education regarding firearms and the shooting sports while adhering to IRS regulations. Ineligible entities include labor organizations and private businesses. Applications must demonstrate a clear public benefit in line with the Foundation's goals.

The Robanna Fund, established in 1992 by Robert and Deanna Levy, supports students pursuing careers in healthcare. Administered by the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, the fund awards scholarships averaging $6,000, depending on various factors such as the number of qualified applicants and donor preferences. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, reside in Hawai‘i, intend to major in a health-related field, and demonstrate financial need. This initiative aims to cultivate future healthcare professionals in the community.

Nature's Path's Gardens for Good program empowers communities by funding organic gardens that address food insecurity. Since 2010, it has donated $930,000 CAD to support 120 gardens. In 2023, grants of $6,500 each will be awarded to 20 gardens across the U.S. and Canada. Eligible applicants must be registered non-profits with urban organic agriculture projects that serve low-income communities, promoting sustainable practices and inclusivity.

The LSTA Mini Grants in Nevada provide funding up to $10,000 for libraries to support innovative and sustainable projects. The Cooperative Invasive Plant Cost Share Program by the Nevada Department of Agriculture aims to combat invasive plant species through a cost-sharing model. Eligible applicants include Cooperative Weed Management Areas and Conservation Districts in Nevada, focusing on projects that promote sustainable land management and ecological health. Funding covers early detection, control measures, and education to enhance community engagement in preserving Nevada's natural resources while adhering to federal guidelines.

The Shigeo and Winifred Ito Scholarship Fund, established by a former recipient of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, aims to support students from Hawaii pursuing higher education on the U.S. mainland. With awards averaging around $6,000, the fund prioritizes residents demonstrating financial need and maintaining good academic standing. The scholarship reflects a commitment to fostering educational opportunities and giving back to the community, ensuring that deserving students can achieve their academic goals.
