Literary Arts Project Grants

As part of its Literary Arts Initiative, South Arts is pleased to announce Literary Arts Project Grants supporting literary arts organizations and small presses that focus on contemporary literary arts.

These grants advance South Arts’ commitment to amplifying the literary traditions and artistic practices of the American South by directly supporting the development, production, and public engagement of high-quality literary projects.

Literary Arts Project Grants support projects in poetry, fiction, creative or literary nonfiction, young readers’ literature, and drama (scriptwriting). Projects must demonstrate artistic excellence, editorial rigor, and meaningful public or community impact.

Award Amount

South Arts will award up to $5,000 per project to eligible literary arts organizations and small presses.

The Michael Herman Scholarship, established by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, honors a talented young soccer player who passed away tragically at 15. This scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors from the Tri-Cities area who have played soccer and wish to continue participating in college-level soccer. Financial need is not a priority, and all eligible students are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to further their education while pursuing their passion for sports.

Whitley County Builders’ Association Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a graduating senior who attends Columbia City High School, Churubusco High School, or Whitko High School and is planning to pursue a technical, associate or baccalaureate degree in the building trades field (such as Construction Engineer, Architecture, Building trades, etc.)

The Pastor Russell “Rusty” J. Perkins Memorial Scholarship Fund supports African American male students in Metro Nashville Public High Schools. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and show involvement in sports. Preference is given to students from Whites Creek High School and those who participated in high school baseball. This fund honors Pastor Perkins, who valued education and community service, fostering a legacy of generosity and faith.

The Thomas Halbert Scholarship, administered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, offers a $1,400 scholarship to undergraduate nursing students enrolled in accredited colleges in Springfield, MO. The Hayden Family Scholarship, established by Ms. Jerry Hayden in memory of her father, supports students pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree, or workforce training in Alabama. It is open to part-time and full-time students at accredited U.S. institutions and can be renewed annually for up to four years, contingent on maintaining eligibility. Funds can be utilized for tuition, housing, and educational supplies, emphasizing the importance of exploring additional financial resources.

The Solidarity Fund Grant, part of the Black Feminist Fund, aims to empower Black feminist movements by providing essential resources. Acknowledging the historical underfunding of these movements, the fund supports groups led by Black women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals. It focuses on solidarity efforts that foster collaboration and joint campaigns, enabling activists to drive social change. This initiative is crucial for advancing justice, self-determination, and equity within communities, ensuring that Black feminist visions are amplified and sustained.

Agnes McCarthy Caregiver Foundation

The Agnes McCarthy Caregiver Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity that provides hope and relief to caregivers who care for a loved one with mental health conditions.

Caregiver Grant

Family caregiving has become a public health issue that receives inadequate recognition in our country. While it can be rewarding to care for our loved ones, it often comes with significant physical, emotional and financial costs to the caregiver. On average, caregivers spend over 25% of their own income to support their loved one and provide 32 hours a week in unpaid care.

AMCF currently offers a $500 financial relief grant to assist family members with unexpected expenses due to their caregiving role. If you are a family caregiver to someone living with a mood or psychiatric condition like depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar, schizophrenia, or other mental health/co-occurring conditions, you are not alone, and we welcome you to apply for a caregiver grant today.

• To ensure our limited funds reach families with the greatest need, grants may require documentation confirming a diagnosed serious mental illness (SMI).  

• The $500 grant is limited to one award per household within a 12-month period.
