Jay Gower Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to graduating senior(s) of Mississinawa Valley Schools. Must have demonstrated academic ability to do vocational or college level work. The student must be accepted or enrolled in a fully accredited vocational or college/university of his/her choice. In the event the selected student cannot fulfill the guideline requirements prior to the beginning of the school year, then the first alternate shall be the recipient.

The Lucille M. Tiro Scholarship, offered by the Delaware Community Foundation, provides a one-time award of $1,000 to a graduating female senior from the Indian River School District. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement and financial need, with preference given to those pursuing degrees in the Arts. This scholarship is part of a broader initiative by DCF, which awarded a record $850,000 to 245 students for the 2024-2025 school year, fostering educational opportunities in Delaware.

The Cloutier-Valenti Legacy Scholarship, funded by the Delaware Community Foundation, offers a one-time award of $1,000 to graduating seniors from selected high schools in Delaware. David and Jinny Schultz Family Fund

Grand Haven resident David Schultz did not go to college. In fact, he never graduated from High School. He started working for his father when he was fifteen and began his tool and die apprenticeship when he was only eighteen years old, becoming president of a tool and die firm when he was 27, turning the company into a successful productions shop. Schultz always had the desire to succeed, but not the formal education. From personal experience, he knew the world would be a better place if a young person's desire could be harnessed with education. This scholarship, established by David and his wife Jinny, is awarded to a student who demonstrates commitment and a strong motivation to succeed.

The Goossen Schroeder, Amber, Scholarship offers a $500 award for graduating seniors from Gage County with a minimum 3.0 GPA and ACT score. Managed by the Beatrice Educational Foundation, this scholarship aims to assist deserving students in pursuing higher education. Eligible applicants must complete the application independently and submit original letters of recommendation. The Foundation promotes academic excellence and civic involvement, awarding over $55,000 annually to support educational opportunities in the community.

Dake Community Manufacturing Scholarship Fund

This fund was established in 2007 for the 120th Anniversary Celebration of Dake Corporation, a former local manufacturing company. It was started by employees and management to encourage and support students that want to further their education in manufacturing education. The Dake entrepreneurial spirit lives on through this scholarship by empowering the next generation.

Barbara and Nicole Heacox Foreign Study & Travel Fund

Bob Heacox lost his wife, Barbara, to cancer in 1990. A few months later he lost his daughter, Nicole, in a tragic accident. At the time of her death, Nicole was a Grand Haven High School student. To help fill the void left by a wife and mother, daughter and sister, Bob and his son, Paul, established a unique Memorial Fund at the Foundation in 1992. While the majority of the Foundation's Scholarship Funds help current graduating high school seniors, the Barbara and Nicole Heacox Foreign Travel and Study Fund assists deserving students, of all ages, who might not otherwise have the opportunity to travel and study in a foreign country.

The Southwest Missouri Resource Conservation and Development Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, provides a $1,000 scholarship for graduating high school seniors from select Missouri counties. Eligible applicants must major in Agriculture, Natural Resources, or related fields, maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and submit an essay along with two letters of recommendation, one from school personnel. This scholarship aims to support students dedicated to community service and leadership.

The Schilling Technical Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, provides four scholarships of $2,000 each to graduating seniors from select high schools. It is renewable for an additional year if a 2.5 GPA is maintained while enrolled in at least 12 credit hours. The Myasthenia Gravis Network (MGNet) Scholar Program is designed to enhance research capabilities in myasthenia gravis through individualized training and mentorship. Funded by the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network (RDCRN), this program supports scholars with up to $75,000 for salary and research costs, aiming to prepare them for independent careers in clinical and translational research. • 2 letters of recommendation (one from a technical/vocational teacher, and one from a source outside of the school system - i.e. employer, 4-H leader, pastor, etc.), and
• a paragraph describing the program or course of study the student plans to pursue

The Gunner Lee Thomason Autism Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, provides a $700 grant to a graduating high school senior or undergraduate student dedicated to working with autistic individuals and their families. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to those from the Truman Lake area. The application requires a transcript, essay, letter of recommendation, and a description of community service and work experience.

The Drs. James and Wanda Trefil Science Scholarship, offered by the Kosciuszko Foundation, supports undergraduate students majoring in natural sciences such as physics, biology, and chemistry. Access Advocate for Clinical Research Participation

Objective:

This program will support implementation and evaluation of a Parkinson’s disease (PD) focused Access Advocate model designed to increase inclusive research participation. Funding will support Access Advocates at clinical sites to build practical, relationship based pathways to improving representative research enrollment and retention.

Funding Details:

• Duration: 24 months 
• Award Amount: $200,000 

The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) and its inclusive recruitment strategy has examined what barriers and motivators shape participation (e.g., FIRE-UP PD study3) as well as funded sites to pilot tactics that address those barriers (e.g., Black & African American Connections to Parkinson’s Disease study4). Now we aim to scale and validate approaches that show early promise by investing more deeply and measuring impact across settings.

This program will fund advocates at clinical sites to build practical, relationship-based pathways to improving representative research enrollment and retention. These support staff will help patients and care partners navigate health system complexity and everyday needs that often determine whether research participation is feasible. They will help address barriers such as transportation, caregiving responsibilities, language needs, and insurance and financial strains by connecting people to resources, coordinating logistics and providing consistent follow-up. These advocates also should discuss research participation opportunities with patients and connect them to recruiting studies.

The model is grounded in the idea that research participation is more feasible when (i) foundational practical needs are addressed first and (ii) raised by a trusted health care partner. By helping to reduce practical barriers, advocates are expected to increase screenings, enrollment conversion and retention across key trial milestones.

This program will test these hypotheses and further establish training, infrastructure needs and sustainability of such positions.

Program Goal

This program aims to:

• Support establishment of site-based Access Advocates to support potential participants and care partners across multiple active or planned PD studies.
• Evaluate needs and opportunities for onboarding and ongoing training for advocates in PD and clinical research fundamentals as well as site and local resources.
• Recommend repeatable workflows for identifying prospective participants, assessing barriers, connecting them to resources, coordinating logistics and supporting follow-up.
• Collect and report a core set of evaluation metrics across sites (reach, encounters, referrals, screened, enrolled, retained), including barrier tracking and resolution.
• Evaluate the impact of Access Advocates in recruiting and retaining underrepresented community individuals to/in Parkinson’s studies.
• Evaluate the impact of Access Advocates on “health system value” indicators (e.g., appointment adherence/show rates, medication access/adherence proxies) that could support funding sustainability from other sources.
• Establish a cross-site learning community that enables funded sites to share lessons, refine the Access Advocate model and inform broader adoption beyond the funding period.
