Award Amount

Multiple scholarships awarded annually. The scholarship is comprised of up to four (4) annual awards of $2,500, for a total award of up to $10,000.

The four annual (4) awards may be received over a period of up to 6 years, allowing for deferment if needed.

Rickert-Shierling Educational Scholarship Fund

The Fund was established to provide scholarships to students who meet the following qualifications: A resident of Randolph County, Indiana, any age seeking higher education, post-secondary education, or adult education, in pursuit of a certificate, diploma or academic degree. Preference will be given to a student with a desire to learn more about human sexuality and/or secular humanism. In the event there is an applicant who desires to study another field on a quest to learn, assuming all other qualifications are met, the monies from the fund can be utilized.

The Joseph S. Keelty ’44 Honor Scholarship is designed for entering students from Maryland, particularly those from the Baltimore area. This four-year scholarship covers tuition based on secondary school preparation and extracurricular contributions. It provides financial support to deserving students, encouraging their academic pursuits at Washington & Lee University.

The Marion Rotary Club Warren G. Harding Scholarship migrated to Marion Community Foundation in 2017. It honors the late Warren Gamaliel Harding, the 29th President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1921, until his death in 1923.

Rotary’s Harding scholarship is given to students who attend Harding High School and/or who intend to pursue an education and career in, or related to, journalism, business, history, government, or political science.

Marion Rotary Club’s Robert E. Kibbey Scholarship

The Marion Rotary Club was chartered in 1922, as club number 1051, with 23 charter members led by Fred Guthery, the first president. The Marion Rotary Club, along with the Marion Rotary Foundation, which was incorporated in 1959, has contributed to many organizations and scholarships over the years.

The Marion Rotary Club Robert E. Kibbey Scholarship migrated to Marion Community Foundation in 2017. It honors the late Bob Kibbey and provides financial support for Marion County graduating seniors. Recipients will have been a resident of Marion County for at least two full years and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale.

Special consideration will be given to applicants who intend to pursue an education and career in or related to business, management, or the hospitality or food industry.

The U.S. Hillman Prize for Opinion and Analysis Journalism, awarded by the Sidney Hillman Foundation, recognizes outstanding journalism that serves the common good. Open to journalists globally, the prize honors works published or broadcast in English within the last year. Winners receive a $5,000 honorarium and a certificate at a ceremony in New York City. The Dr. Harvey Young Education & Development Foundation’s Young Guts Scholars Program supports undergraduate students from underrepresented groups in biomedical research. Eligible applicants must have a mentor and commit to a minimum of 12 hours of research per week. This initiative aims to expand the pipeline of investigators in digestive disease research.

They offer monthly programs for the community, including musical arts, poetry, theater, dance, instrumentals, and history — both live and via their YouTube channel. The Club encourages the arts in Marion by supporting the Palace Cultural Arts Association and Marion Civic Chorus.

Exemplary character is a major consideration in the selection of recipients for this scholarship.

Rob’s Hauling & Vance Family Scholarship

The Rob’s Hauling & Vance Family Scholarship Fund was created in 2019 by James and Lyndsey Vance. The Vance family places a priority on and a commitment to protecting, preserving, conserving, and sustaining the environment. Their scholarship gives special consideration to applicants who are pursuing an education in Ecology, Natural Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Renewable Energy Engineering, Sustainability Management, Urban Planning and Sustainability, Climate Science, Conservation Science, Conservation Biology, or Environmental Health and Economics. Consideration is also given to students studying Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture Production, Animal Science, Food Sciences and Technologies, Horticulture, Plant Science, Soil Science, and related fields.

Recipients may be a graduate or senior from any school located in Marion County who have been a resident of the area for their entire high school career and maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or greater.

This program assists with prescription drug copays and insurance premiums, covering up to $3,500 annually for treatments. With a mission to ensure no patient is deprived of necessary healthcare due to financial constraints, the HealthWell Foundation has provided over $1.2 billion in grants, supporting more than 1.1 million patients since its inception.

Environmental Education Scholarship

This fund was set up by the Randolph County Recycling District. The district was established in 1996, dedicated to helping our community reduce waste, reuse creatively, recycle right, respect the earth and rethink sustainability through community outreach and environmental education programs. The fund held at CFRC was created in 2004 to help further their mission by establishing a scholarship for Randolph County seniors who are committed to environmental conservation and aspire to careers that will contribute to the preservation and restoration of the environment.
