At South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF), we proudly manage more than 350 scholarship funds in partnership with generous donors who are committed to supporting students. These scholarships offer countless opportunities to help ease the financial burden of continuing their education.

Spearfish Volunteer Firefighters' Association Scholarship

To provide financial support to individuals pursuing an education and training in the public safety industry.

The Spearfish Fire Department, established in the late 1880s as a volunteer organization, serves the northern Black Hills in western South Dakota. Its mission is to protect lives and property within the fire protection district and mutual aid area. Additionally, the department advocates for fire safety and provides fire safety education in local schools and the wider community.

The OVW Fiscal Year 2026 Tribal Sexual Assault Services Program provides crucial support to Indian Tribes and organizations in addressing sexual assault through intervention and advocacy. This program aims to assist victims of all ages, including youth and children, as well as their families and those affected by the trauma, except for perpetrators. Applications must be submitted by September 3, 2026, at 4:59 PM ET in JustGrants.

The 1890 Scholarships Program, overseen by the USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), aims to enhance the recruitment and retention of undergraduate and graduate students at 1890 Land-grant institutions. It supports students pursuing degrees in food and agricultural sciences, fostering a skilled workforce in this critical sector. By providing scholarships, the program encourages academic excellence and commitment to the agricultural field, ultimately contributing to the development of future leaders in food systems.

The Wesley Lanyon Award, presented by the American Ornithological Society, honors early-career ornithologists for the best integrative avian science review paper published in AOS journals. With a $1,500 honorarium and $1,000 travel stipend, this biennial award encourages doctoral students and recent Ph.D. graduates to contribute novel insights to ornithology. Winners can organize a symposium at the AOS annual meeting, fostering collaboration and advancing research in the field.

The Katma Award, established by the American Ornithological Society in 2003, honors innovative research that challenges existing theories in avian biology. This award encourages submissions of research articles, commentaries, or short communications published within the last two years. Nominees are expected to uphold high ethical standards, and the award includes a $2,500 prize and a certificate. Ideal submissions include papers authored by one or two researchers, with self-nominations also accepted.

The Juliette P. Doster Scholarship Fund honors the legacy of Mrs. Doster, who dedicated forty years to improving healthcare in Calhoun County. This renewable scholarship supports students pursuing associate's or bachelor's degrees, as well as approved workforce training programs. Awarded yearly for up to four years, recipients must maintain academic standards. Funding varies based on the Community Foundation's annual income, and the award covers tuition, housing, supplies, and other educational expenses.

The Jacquelin Goldman Congressional Fellowship offers developmental and clinical psychologists a unique opportunity to gain public policy experience while enhancing the application of psychological knowledge in government. Funded by the American Psychological Foundation, this fellowship supports one fellow annually with a stipend of $75,000 to $90,000, along with health insurance reimbursement and professional development funds. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in child psychology and policy issues, and have strong communication skills.

The Alcohol Research-Related Resource Award (R24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) aims to support investigator-initiated resources that enhance biomedical research on a national level. Through this non-hypothesis-driven grant, essential data, materials, and services will be provided to facilitate progress in the alcohol research community. The resources must be available to qualified investigators and should not replicate existing commercial offerings, ensuring high-quality and cost-efficient support for diverse research activities.

The Helen M. Heitmann Young Scholar Award, presented by SHAPE America, honors young professionals who have made significant contributions to research in curriculum and instruction within health and physical education. Eligible candidates must be current SHAPE America members and have 3 to 6 years of experience post-doctorate. This award emphasizes active involvement and scholarship in the field, encouraging innovative research that enhances educational practices for preK-12 students.

The OREF/MTF Biologics Research Grant encourages innovative research in biologics, focusing on reconstruction, bone regeneration, and transplantation, including stem cells. It is open to licensed U.S. orthopaedic surgeons and PhD researchers with faculty appointments. The grant seeks clinically relevant projects that demonstrate practical applications and multidisciplinary collaboration, promoting excellence in research. New investigators are especially encouraged to apply, ensuring a commitment to advancing orthopaedic science.

The Allergic Respiratory Diseases Award, supported by the American Lung Association and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, aims to bolster research in allergic respiratory diseases. Designed for faculty in Clinical Allergy and Immunology at academic medical centers, this award offers $75,000 annually for up to two years. It seeks to empower researchers at pivotal points in their careers, enhancing understanding and treatment of these conditions while promoting lung health.

To apply for a grant or sponsorship from Carnival Foundation, prospective applicants must complete an online application and include the following information and documents:

In-Kind Donations

To apply for an in-kind donation from Carnival Foundation, submit an online application complete with the following information:

• A letter of request with a brief description of the organization including its legal name, history, activities, purpose and governing board
• Contact name and information, including phone number and address for the individual who is organizing the event

• Average amount of funds raised from the auction in previous years and estimated number and demographics of the event audience

The NINDS Exploratory Clinical Trials for Small Business (R41/R42) program supports Small Business Concerns in conducting investigator-initiated exploratory clinical trials. This funding opportunity emphasizes projects that align with the NINDS mission, evaluating diverse products including drugs, biologics, and devices. Only STTR Phase II and Fast-Track applications are eligible, fostering innovation in neurological disorder treatments. The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) offers grants to support thoroughbred health, welfare, and education. The Miller Indigenous Economic Development Fellowship, established by the Native Forward Scholars Fund, provides financial assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native doctoral candidates engaged in economic research impacting Native communities. This fellowship supports costs associated with data collection, analysis, and travel. It aims to enhance the representation of Native scholars in economics, addressing the current underrepresentation in the field. Eligible candidates are encouraged to apply to further their research and contribute to their communities.

The SAF National Awards Program recognizes exceptional contributions to forestry through its Honorary Membership award. This accolade is presented to individuals whose impact on the field is acknowledged by their peers, highlighting their distinguished service in advancing forestry knowledge and societal awareness. Awardees receive lifetime membership in SAF along with complimentary convention registration. The program seeks to honor those, including non-professional foresters, who have made significant strides in forestry, both domestically and internationally.

The Barbara Crooker Caregiving Fellowship, offered by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, supports artists caring for ill or disabled family members. This fully-funded residency provides a private bedroom, studio space, and meals in a collaborative environment. Artists from all disciplines are encouraged to apply, fostering diversity and creativity. Established by poet Barbara Crooker, the fellowship aims to empower caregivers by offering them dedicated time for their artistic pursuits, ensuring their vital contributions to the arts are recognized.

The National Institutes of Health is launching a funding opportunity to explore the mechanisms of skin injuries caused by toxic chemicals. This initiative aims to understand the common pathways of injury from various harmful substances, facilitating the discovery of therapeutic targets. Researchers are encouraged to collaborate and apply their expertise in cutaneous wound healing. The goal is to develop broad-spectrum medical countermeasures for mass casualty events involving toxic exposures, enhancing public health safety.

The Thriving Community Impact Fund supports local events and initiatives that promote health and well-being in the community. Applications should be submitted at least 12 weeks prior to the event date. The fund prioritizes non-profit organizations, schools, and government agencies that align with the Health System’s Community Health Improvement Plan. Event sponsorships, local memberships, and partnerships are encouraged to enhance community engagement and address social needs, ultimately fostering a healthier community.

The Mentored Career Development Award (K01) from the NIH aims to diversify the biomedical research workforce by supporting candidates from underrepresented backgrounds. It provides mentoring and training in research independence, focusing on cardiovascular, pulmonary, hematologic diseases, and sleep disorders. Eligible institutions can guide faculty members in special studies, but applicants should not lead their own clinical trials. This initiative promotes diversity and enhances research capability in health disparities populations.

The BJA FY 2026 Second Chance Act aims to enhance education and employment opportunities for adults and youth transitioning from incarceration. By funding state, local, and tribal governments, as well as community organizations, this initiative seeks to improve academic and vocational training in prisons. The program focuses on developing marketable skills, leveraging technology, and aligning with local job markets to foster job readiness, improve employment outcomes, and reduce recidivism.

The MIND Prize, funded by The Pershing Square Foundation, supports innovative research to combat neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. It empowers early-to-mid-career investigators to explore unconventional approaches and fosters collaboration across disciplines. Each winner receives $250,000 annually for three years, promoting advancements in neuroscience and creating a unique network for researchers. The initiative aims to enhance our understanding of brain health and tackle pressing societal challenges.

American Brain Foundation

The American Brain Foundation funds research across the spectrum of the brain and nervous system, because it is our best hope for improving treatments, advancing prevention strategies, and discovering cures. Brain diseases, disorders, and injuries are interconnected. When we cure one, we will cure many.

Next Generation Research Grants

The American Brain Foundation’s Next Generation Research Grants (NGRGs) support early career investigators conducting high-quality research aimed at better understanding, treating, and curing brain diseases. These grants are offered in collaboration with disease-focused partner organizations and reflect ABF’s Cure One, Cure Many research philosophy: the belief that breakthroughs in one area of research accelerate progress across many others.

Lawrence M. Brass, MD Clinical Research Training Scholarship in Stroke

This award aims to recognize the importance of good clinical research and to encourage early career investigators in clinical studies related to stroke, vascular neurology, and neurocritical care.

For the purpose of this scholarship, research is defined as “patient-oriented research conducted with human participants, or translational research specifically designed to develop treatments or enhance diagnosis of neurological disease. These areas of research include epidemiologic or behavioral studies, clinical trials, studies of disease mechanisms, the development of new technologies, and health services and outcomes research.” Disease-related studies not directly involving humans or human tissue are also encouraged if the primary goal is the development of therapies, diagnostic tests, or other tools to prevent or mitigate neurological diseases.

HIV Prevention NOVA 2026

Program Description

Gilead Sciences invites research proposals that advance the evidence base for innovative and scalable models of delivery for long-acting (LA) HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in the United States.

This Topic of Interest (TOI) is focused on care delivery models implemented in non-traditional settings, defined as clinical and non-clinical environments where PrEP services are not routinely provided. Emphasis is placed on approaches that reflect real-life practice and address gaps in current PrEP delivery infrastructure.

Persistent inequities in PrEP uptake in the U.S. suggest that expanding availability within traditional clinical settings alone is unlikely to reach all populations with unmet PrEP need.1,2 Rigorous implementation studies in non-traditional settings where PrEP services are not routinely provided are needed to evaluate whether these models can reduce access barriers and improve equitable reach among individuals who may benefit from PrEP.2,3,4

The goal of this TOI is to generate practical, decision-relevant evidence that informs how LA PrEP can be implemented, scaled, and sustained in real-life U.S. settings.

Emma E. Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund

Mission Statement

The Emma E. Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to memorialize Emma by helping female swimmers pursue their dreams of a college education. The scholarship awards will be granted on an annual basis to female graduating high school senior athletes in Southern Chester County.

About Emma

Emma was an excellent student as a sophomore at Unionville High School (UHS). She loved to swim and was a dedicated member of both the Kennett YMCA Sea Dragons and UHS swim teams. In her spare time, Emma was a lifeguard and also taught young children how to swim at the Y. As a younger child and teenager, Emma excelled on the ballfield in URA softball.

At the young age of 16, Emma passed away following complications caused by a rare type of gastric cancer, a form of the disease that was unheard of in a child and unfortunately found too late. Throughout Emma’s brief illness, she was strong and determined to get better, and did not let her health issues define her in any way.

Emma was beautiful in every sense of the word, and was loved throughout her community and beyond. She worked hard at whatever she was trying to accomplish, but always with a cheery, exuberant attitude and lovely smile. More than anything, her absolute kindness and warm heart are what made Emma our sweet girl.

The Pediatric Visiting Professorship, funded by the Rheumatology Research Foundation, aims to recognize exceptional scientific abstracts from pediatric rheumatology fellows at ACR Convergence. This award facilitates knowledge sharing and promotes advancements in rheumatic disease care. The professorship spans two to three days and includes diverse teaching formats. Selected fellows receive a $1,000 honorarium for virtual visits or $1,500 for in-person engagements, along with reimbursement for travel expenses, enhancing the future of pediatric rheumatology education.
