The Safe Routes to Schools Program (SRTS) provides funding to improve safety and mobility for children by enabling and encouraging them to walk and bicycle to school. Funding from this program is for projects within two miles of primary, middle and high schools (K-12).

Freight Rail Assistance Program
For the 2027-2029 biennium, a total of $7.04 million in funding will be available for Freight Rail Assistance Program (FRAP) grants. However, the programmed amount identified is subject to change and funding allotments will be re-evaluated during the 2027 legislative session. Therefore, funding availability is not guaranteed.
The FRAP is a grant program open to applicants in both the public and private sector. This program is directed toward larger projects that are challenged to secure funding and where the rail location or the project is of strategic importance to the local community and the state.
Equitable Access to Credit grant program
Commerce is initiating this request for applications from qualified lending institutions to provide businesses in historically underserved communities with access to credit. The funding allows these organizations to offer technical assistance services, small business training, loans and investments to borrowers who might not be eligible for traditional bank loans. Considered “unbanked”, the Equitable Access to Credit Program’s qualifying loan recipients might not have bank accounts, might have poor credit or no credit at all. The program goal is to encourage investment in small, typically rural, and underserved businesses to boost community and economic development in Washington.
Funding
Commerce has about $4,356,000 available from the Equitable Access to Credit Program, and the grant awards typically range from about $50,000 to over $1M.
