Nonprofits, regardless of location, can apply if their projects benefit Baldwin County residents.

Folklife

This grant program supports projects and activities which serve to identify, preserve and/or present Alabama folk traditions. Projects and activities may include festivals, field surveys, performances, exhibitions and documentation projects such as film, video, photography recordings, radio and publications.

Folklife Organizational Grant - Quick Assist Grants

Quick Assist Grants are for special, one-time needs unrelated to any other project or activity funded with a Council on the Arts grant. These grants fund unexpected or impromptu programs, opportunities, or other activities that are important to promote, share, or support the arts. Successful applications vary widely.

Quick Assist Grant applications may request between $500 and $2,500, with no matching expenses required to be provided by the applicant. Activities and expenses of a Quick Assist Grants may not overlap or support projects that are funded with another Council on the Arts grant of any kind.

ADECA Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The Community Development Block Grant program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the State of Alabama has administered the program since 1982.

The program is available to all non-entitlement communities (those not receiving direct funds from HUD) that meet applicable thresholds

All projects must meet one of the three national objectives:

• Benefit at least 51% low and moderate income persons
• Aid in the prevention or clearance of slum and blight
• Meet an urgent need

The State is required to write an action plan each year for approval by HUD that shows how the State intends to distribute the funds. Since the beginning, Alabama has distributed the majority of funds through competition among communities.

Planning Fund

CED administers a small Planning Fund that allows communities to develop communitywide comprehensive plans and downtown revitalization plans.

Workforce Development Award

The Arkansas Space Grant Consortium (ASGC), a participant in the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program (NSGCFP), invites applications for the NASA Space Grant Workforce Development Award. This award offers internships at NASA Centers or aerospace-related industries, aimed at encouraging students to prepare for careers in professional aerospace fields.

Nature's Path's Gardens for Good program empowers communities by funding organic gardens that address food insecurity. Since 2010, it has donated $930,000 CAD to support 120 gardens. In 2023, grants of $6,500 each will be awarded to 20 gardens across the U.S. and Canada. Eligible applicants must be registered non-profits with urban organic agriculture projects that serve low-income communities, promoting sustainable practices and inclusivity.

Creative Places Arts Facilities (CPAF) - Construction Grants

The Creative Places Arts Facilities (CPAF) program assists arts organizations in building, renovating, restoring, or enhancing facilities used for arts activities that benefit Alabamians.

Construction grants fund the building of a new facility, substantial renovations of an existing facility, or significant repairs/modifications of existing facilities. Applicants may request up to $100,000; these grants require applicant-funded expenses equal to, or greater than, the amount requested.

The SESAPS Francis Slack Award, established by the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society, honors individuals who have selflessly contributed to advancing physics in the Southeast. It recognizes efforts in enhancing research facilities, strengthening academic departments, and fostering regional physics organizations. Nominations remain active for three years, with a focus on encouraging women and minority candidates. This prestigious award commemorates the legacy of Francis G. Slack, a pivotal figure in the development of the Southeastern Section.

The Dale Jr. Foundation, founded by NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., has raised over $8 million since 2007 to support various charities focusing on youth and underprivileged communities. Schools must provide at least one PLTW course in the first year and two courses in the second year. The total grant is $14,000, covering participation fees and training costs. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools located in the U.S., with special encouragement for those serving low-income or minority-majority populations.
