SEP Energy-Efficient Retrofits Grant

The State Energy Program’s (SEP) purpose is to provide funding and technical assistance to enhance energy security, advance state-led energy initiatives, maximize the benefits of decreasing energy waste, and increase energy affordability. It also helps prepare for natural disasters and improve the security of the State’s energy infrastructure. Specifically, it assists states in meeting federal requirements to prepare for an energy emergency and develop an individual state energy security plan.

SEP is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Congress appropriates funds annually to support program activities, which includes funding for formula grants, competitive awards, and technical assistance.

Additional funds can be appropriated for related energy efficiency programs managed by the Energy Efficiency Unit in ADECA’s Energy Division. The funding is utilized to plan and implement energy programs in Alabama that are designed to achieve national energy goals such as lowering energy costs and consumption, decreasing reliance on imported energy, reducing impacts of energy production and use on the environment, and to increase energy security and reliability.

ADECA Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program

The Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program receives funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ADECA contracts with local community action agencies and the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission to deliver weatherization assistance to low-income households in all 67 counties across the state.

The mission is to reduce energy costs for low-income households, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities and families with children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. In order to receive assistance, the applicant’s income must not exceed 200% of the federally established poverty level.

Alabama Weatherization Assistance requires participants agree to minor alterations to their homes based on an assessment and energy audit conducted by trained professionals to determine the most cost-effective means of reducing energy consumption. Health and safety checks are also performed on the home.

Creative Places Arts Facilities (CPAF) - Enhancement Grants

The Creative Places Arts Facilities (CPAF) program assists arts organizations in building, renovating, restoring, or enhancing facilities used for arts activities that benefit Alabamians.

Enhancement grants offer funding for equipment purchases and upgrades that will improve how cultural assets and works of art are presented, produced, exhibited, and/or preserved (lighting, sounds, seating, etc.). Applicants may request up to $50,000. No required match of applicant-funded expense

The AHA Mini Grant supports public humanities projects in Alabama, accepting applications monthly. It is particularly aimed at first-time applicants, encouraging them to consult with AHA’s grants director for project verification. Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools to implement the PLTW Engineering program for the 2025-2026 academic year and beyond. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools located in the US. Grant recipients will receive funding to cover participation fees and training costs. Total funding amounts to $16,000, distributed over three years. Schools are encouraged to create pathways for students in engineering through this initiative.
