“I Have A Dream” Scholarship in Honor of Mary and Dick Granger

This scholarship was created to honor Mary Granger, Founder of "I Have a Dream" Southwest Washington and the success of the program. Mary and her husband, Dick Granger, along with several other individual donors sponsored four Dreamer Classes in the Vancouver Public Schools. The Dreamer Classes were adopted at the following elementary schools: Washington (1995), Hough (1997), Harney (1999), and Martin Luther King (2001). Of over 300 "Dreamer" students, 90% graduated high school on-time after participating in the long term academic enrichment and mentoring program. This scholarship is renewable. Renewal applicants will have special consideration or priority, if they show good standing at their institution and continuing financial need. Award amounts may vary each year. 

The Forest Foundation offers the Capital Projects Grant to enhance the quality of life in Southwest Washington, particularly in Tacoma and Pierce County. This grant is available to tax-exempt organizations focused on community development, environmental stewardship, and cultural initiatives. Organizations must demonstrate fiscal accountability and innovative solutions. While the foundation prioritizes local projects, it also supports initiatives that empower families towards self-sufficiency. Notably, it does not fund new facility construction or lobbying efforts.

This scholarship offers financial assistance along with a 75-hour paid summer internship, helping students gain practical experience in the legal field. Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to pursuing a legal career through a personal statement, addressing how their unique experiences can enrich the profession. The initiative emphasizes inclusivity and access in law education.

The Dr. Scholl Foundation offers grants annually to IRS 501(c)(3) organizations, primarily focusing on U.S. applicants. The foundation supports projects in education, social services, healthcare, civic and cultural initiatives, and environmental efforts. While the grant cycle runs from October 1 to March 1, it encourages innovative solutions to global challenges. Only one application per organization is accepted each year, and funding is limited to one year. Unqualified organizations, including political entities, are ineligible.

The Nike Community Impact Fund Grant Program, established in 2010, supports nonprofits and schools in the Portland area, focusing on promoting sport and physical activity. Annually, at least $550,000 is awarded to empower youth through play, fostering healthier and more inclusive communities. The program prioritizes projects benefiting underrepresented populations and encourages innovative solutions to local challenges. Applications are open to qualified organizations in specific Oregon and Washington counties, emphasizing collaboration with Nike employees.

The African-American Community Foundation's Deloris L. Winslow Scholarship for Community Excellence, established in 2013 by The Dayton Foundation, supports minority students from Clark and Montgomery Counties pursuing degrees in social work, political science, counseling, psychology, or addiction treatment. The Dayton Foundation, established in 1921, aims to enhance community welfare through philanthropy, focusing on education, health, arts, and urgent regional needs. The Dayton Daily News Si Burick Scholarship honors the legacy of sports editor Si Burick, awarded annually to a graduating senior from specific counties in Ohio pursuing journalism. The scholarship emphasizes academic success and journalistic aspirations, supporting students with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Perry & Doreen Evans Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of South Dakota high schools with preference to high schools within Clark and Codington counties.

The Perry & Doreen Evans Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary education. First preference will be given to students residing in Clark County, with secondary preference given to students residing in Codington County.

Four $5,000 renewable scholarships for a maximum of four years to students attending a college or university. Student must maintain and provide proof of a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and enrolled as a full-time student.

Four $2,500 renewable scholarships for a maximum of two years to students attending a technical college. Student must maintain and provide proof of a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (based on 4.0 scale) and enrolled as a full-time student. 

Ninety-nine Girlfriends offers annual Impact Awards ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 to nonprofits in the Portland Metro/SW Washington area. The grants focus on four key areas: educational equity for youth, environmental sustainability, housing stability, and women's economic empowerment. Emphasizing equity and trust-based philanthropy, they seek organizations that demonstrate a commitment to community impact and inclusivity. Applications are open to 501(c)(3) entities and fiscally sponsored groups, requiring a minimum annual revenue of $100,000.

AIASWW Education Scholarship Fund

The Plan to Be an Architect? Scholarship is a joint program of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) National and the AIA Southwest Washington Chapter, designed to support students who plan to pursue architecture as a career. The scholarship assists students who have been accepted to a university with an accredited architectural degree program and demonstrates strong potential through academic and non-academic achievements, along with a personal narrative explaining their interest in architecture. Scholarship recipients are publicly recognized through local media and school announcements.

Andrew J. Shields Memorial Scholarship

The Andrew Jon Shields Memorial Scholarship was established by Jon and Carol Shields in memory of their son, Andrew Jon Shields, an Airborne Combat Medic who dedicated his life to the health, safety, and welfare of his fellow service members. Raised in the Vancouver, Washington area, Andrew was a graduate of Battle Ground High School, where he was active in football and served as Fire District 11 Fire Cadet Chief. He joined the U.S. Army in 2007 and completed training as a combat medic and paratrooper before being deployed to Afghanistan with the 173rd Special Troop Battalion (Airborne). Andrew was killed in action on May 31, 2008, while serving in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. The scholarship honors Andrew’s legacy of service, honor, and compassion and is intended to recognize individuals who reflect these values in their own lives. This scholarship is not renewable.

The Angela Svendsen Memorial Music Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Angela Svendsen, a professional violinist and music educator whose passion was sharing the joy of music through teaching and performance. Angela earned a Bachelor’s degree in String Performance from Central Washington University and spent her career enriching the Vancouver, Washington community through private instruction and professional performance. Established in her memory following her passing in 2007, the scholarship supports students whose lives are enriched by music and education and who seek to further their love of music while positively impacting the world around them.

Church at the Grove Scholarship

This scholarship supports higher education and vocational training opportunities for Christian young adults, primarily—though not exclusively—for members of Church at the Grove in Vancouver, Washington (formerly Walnut Grove Community Church). Each year, two scholarships are awarded, typically ranging from $1,000 to $1,500. Awards may be renewable for up to four years, provided recipients maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA and submit an application annually.

Jay and Diane Zidell Scholarship

The Jay and Diane Zidell Scholarship was established to support working individuals seeking to improve their personal and financial circumstances through education. The scholarship is available to residents of Clark County, Washington who are employed at least 10 hours per week while attending an accredited college, university, technical, or career school, with no minimum enrollment requirement. Awards are typically $2,000 and may be renewable for students who continue to meet eligibility criteria and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Graduating high school seniors and graduate students are not eligible for this scholarship.

Light the Way Teachers’ Scholarship

The Light the Way Teacher’s Scholarship was established by retired educators Jeff and Lola to support students pursuing careers in education. The scholarship is available to residents of Clark County who are current college students entering their third or fourth year of undergraduate coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in education. Preference is given to applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service, have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA in college coursework, and show financial need. The scholarship reflects the founders’ belief in education as a pathway to success and fulfillment and aims to support future teachers preparing to enter a rewarding profession.
