Best Youth Sports Grants in Delaware

The California Casualty Music & Arts Grant supports K-12 public schools facing budget cuts that threaten their music and arts programs. Eligible applicants, who must be active employees of public K-12 schools and members of specified educator associations, can request grants of $250 for music or arts needs. This initiative aims to enhance creative education across the states, excluding AK, HI, MA, MI, NY, and WI. Applications received by July 15 will be notified by November 30.

Since our creation by Congress in 1984, NFWF has grown to become the nation’s largest private conservation foundation. We work with both the public and private sectors to protect and restore our nation’s fish, wildlife, plants and habitats for current and future generations.

NFWF supports conservation efforts across all 50 states and U.S. territories. Since our founding, we've funded over 23,300 rigorously evaluated projects, awarded to both large environmental organizations and small local initiatives. We do not fund advocacy or litigation, and do not conduct membership campaigns. Instead, we focus on achieving results and building a better future for our world.

Chesapeake Bay Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction Grants

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the federal-state Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) partnership, is soliciting pre-proposals through the Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction (INSR) Grants program to improve water quality and reduce nutrient and sediment pollution to the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers and streams. Major funding for the INSR Grants program is provided by EPA, with other important contributions from Altria Group, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the U.S. Forest Service. 

The Norfolk Southern In-Kind Donation Grant supports organizations seeking physical donations of materials that align with their focus areas, including safety, sustainability, workforce development, and thriving communities. This grant is available year-round, with no application deadline. Recipients must be located within Norfolk Southern territory and are encouraged to apply for resources that will enhance their community projects and initiatives, fostering growth and resilience.

The Patterson Foundation offers Oral Health Grants to support programs that enhance access to dental care for underserved communities. Eligible 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations can apply for funding up to $35,000 for capacity expansion, $10,000 for personnel support, or $10,000 for program support. The foundation prioritizes projects led by volunteer dental professionals and requires follow-up reports for continued funding. Applications are accepted year-round through a two-step process.

Incyte Corporation offers charitable contributions to organizations aligned with its mission to improve the lives of patients with cancer and other diseases. Eligible entities include medical schools, associations, not-for-profits, advocacy groups, and hospitals. Requests should focus on healthcare and comply with relevant guidelines. Organizations must enter a written agreement to receive funding, and requests should be submitted at least 60 days prior to the decision deadline.

About the Fund

The Fund for Delaware Collaboration (the “Collaboration Fund”) supports formal sustained collaborations between and among nonprofit organizations in the state of Delaware. These collaborations can range from voluntary back-office consolidations to programmatic joint ventures, to mergers and acquisitions. The Fund seeks to have a catalytic impact on the capacity, effectiveness, and financial health of the Delaware nonprofit sector.

Three Types of Grant Awards

The Collaboration Fund makes grants to nonprofits to identify and engage experienced technical assistance providers who can support the exploration or implementation of a sustained collaboration.

The Fund will support collaboration projects involving nonprofits serving Delaware and Delawareans, regardless of whether they have headquarters in the state.

Up to $5,000

To assess readiness or begin the process of alignment

The Coby Foundation Grant is dedicated to supporting non-profit organizations in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, focusing on innovative projects related to textiles and fashion. Applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of inquiry with a project description and budget at least nine months prior to the project start. The foundation seeks exhibitions, public programs, and publications that enhance understanding of textile arts, while promoting underrepresented artists and cultures.

The Capacity Building Initiative (CBI) by the Chesapeake Bay Funders Network aims to enhance the organizational capacity of groups working towards community well-being and natural resource management. Funded projects may include strategic planning, staff training, and technology assistance, with funding requests typically capped at $40,000 for nonprofits and $150,000 for local governments. Eligible applicants include nonprofits and local governments operating within the Chesapeake watershed, focusing on water and natural resource goals.

The Les Mehrhoff Botanical Research Award, established by the New England Botanical Society, supports innovative botanical research that enhances our understanding of New England's flora. Open to applicants without membership, it prioritizes projects lacking traditional funding sources. Eligible expenses include fieldwork, lab supplies, and moderate stipends. This award encourages researchers to explore unconventional inquiries and fosters a deeper appreciation for the diverse plant life in northeastern North America.

The NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award provides financial assistance to student-athletes who have exhausted their athletics eligibility, enabling them to complete their first undergraduate degree. Since its inception in 2001, nearly $9 million has supported approximately 1,875 athletes, with a remarkable 90 percent graduation rate among recipients. The award covers tuition costs up to $15,000 for remaining credits and may be used in the summer term or short terms surrounding the final undergraduate year.

RBC Foundation – USA aims to enhance community quality of life by supporting non-profit organizations that promote diversity and positive change. In 2023, it awarded over $2.8 million in grants, prioritizing youth programs for ages 15-29, arts access for diverse populations, and mental well-being initiatives. The foundation encourages sustainable projects that foster economic independence, providing critical support for education, mental health, and cultural enrichment, thereby making a significant impact across various communities.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, established in 2001, has awarded over $17.5 million to combat hunger in its operating areas. This foundation focuses on supporting children at risk of hunger and enhancing the capacity of feeding agencies to provide nutritious meals. They also emphasize nutrition education to mitigate health risks associated with hunger. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) nonprofits located within 20 miles of a Food Lion store, with applications accepted annually.

The Walls & Turner Charitable Fund provides small grants to support educational programs fulfilling the wishes of terminally ill children, alongside initiatives aimed at animal welfare. Eligible agencies must operate in Delaware without discrimination. However, individuals and non-501(c)3 organizations are ineligible, as are requests for office equipment and funding for public educational institutions. This initiative is committed to improving the lives of children and animals in the community.

The Lynn W. Williams Natural Science Education Fund for Girls Grant aims to support underprivileged girls through experiential STEM education. Grants can be used for educational equipment, instructor stipends, and overall programming to enhance science learning. This initiative focuses on empowering girls and fostering a passion for science while ensuring accessibility. Eligible applicants are agencies serving Delaware residents without discrimination, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities in education.

The Wilmington New Castle Pediatric Association Fund, managed by the Delaware Community Foundation, provides small grants aimed at enhancing educational programs for pediatric healthcare providers. Eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits can apply for funding to support continuing education and training initiatives. The foundation emphasizes equitable service delivery in Delaware, excluding support for individuals and certain organizational expenses.

The Synod of the Mid-Atlantic's Visionary Fund supports innovative and inclusive programs addressing education, evangelism, and social justice. These grants, funded by generous donations from Presbyterians, aim to foster community growth and development. Contributions are vital for continuing this mission, with options available for individual, group, or congregational donations, as well as estate bequests and gifts of securities or real estate. Together, we can make a meaningful impact.

The Synod of the Mid-Atlantic offers the New and Small Church Grant Fund to support new and small churches in their mission projects. Funded through generous donations from Presbyterians, these grants help churches implement priorities in education, evangelism, and social justice. With grants ranging from $1,000 to $15,000, it supports organizations that provide safety services or promote safe behavior. This program reflects Norfolk Southern's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, empowering employees to engage locally. By investing in safety and workforce development, Norfolk Southern fosters thriving communities, demonstrating its dedication to social responsibility and community well-being.

The Mid-Atlantic Older Adult Ministries Endowment Fund, supported by the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic, provides essential funding for programs aimed at older adults. This endowment, maintained by the Presbyterian Foundation, ensures that the income generated will directly benefit ministries catering to the needs of older adults within the community. Contributions are vital for sustaining these efforts, and various donation methods are welcomed to support this important cause.

The Presbytery Initiative Grants, funded by the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic, support mission projects endorsed by two presbyteries. These grants are made possible through generous donations from Presbyterians, emphasizing community contributions to sustain funding. Applications are accepted twice a year, with deadlines on February 1st and August 1st. Individuals and congregations can contribute through various means, including estate bequests and donations, to assist in fulfilling the mission objectives.

The Synod of the Mid-Atlantic's Thanksgiving Offering Fund supports child and youth care agencies through grants funded by the generous contributions of Presbyterians. Established in 2001, this initiative allows individuals, groups, and congregations to donate, ensuring continued support for vital services. Contributions can be made through direct donations, bequests, or gifts of various assets. Funds are allocated based on designations and a formula for undesignated contributions, promoting community welfare.

The Norfolk Southern Corporate Giving: Thriving Communities Grant Program supports initiatives that promote sustainability, workforce development, and community resilience across a 22-state network. With grants ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, the program aims to foster economic development and ensure equal access to basic necessities. Eligible organizations include tax-exempt nonprofits, government entities, and public schools, emphasizing diversity and inclusion in their community-focused efforts.

The Ralph & Betty Murray Family Fund, managed by the Delaware Community Foundation, aims to enhance diabetes research and support individuals with diabetes in Delaware. This fund emphasizes equity and community-based philanthropy, inviting 501(c)3 nonprofits to apply for grants that align with its mission. Organizations must serve Delaware residents without discrimination. Ineligible entities include individuals, non-501(c)3 nonprofits, and those seeking funds for office equipment or religious purposes.

The Corporate Giving Program by the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that enhance community welfare. Focus areas include agriculture, education, fighting hunger, and public safety. Eligible applicants must have IRS 501(c)(3) status and a Taxpayer Identification number. Requests are prioritized for programs directly benefiting communities near Perdue facilities across various states. The foundation emphasizes responsible stewardship and community engagement in all funding decisions.

The Patterson Foundation offers Assistance Dog Program Grants to support organizations providing service animals to veterans and individuals with disabilities. Funding is available for projects that expand capacity, personnel costs related to puppy training, and program support aimed at improving client experiences. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) non-profits and can request grants up to $35,000 for capital projects or $10,000 for program support. Applications are accepted through a two-step process.

The Therapeutic Riding at Carousel Fund offers small grants to support programs that provide therapeutic riding and educational initiatives related to it. These grants aim to enhance therapeutic modalities and meet equipment needs, ensuring accessibility for participants. Eligible agencies must serve Delaware residents without discrimination. However, the fund does not support individuals, non-501(c)3 organizations, office equipment purchases, or public educational institutions, among other exclusions.

The Delaware Division of the Arts offers a variety of grants for Delaware Pre-K through 12 public, charter, private, and parochial schools that offer arts activities and programming.

Grants for Schools: TranspARTation Grants

Grants that support transportation costs (up to $500) for schools to bring students to Delaware arts and cultural institutions and venues in order to attend arts performances, events, and exhibits. 

The Delaware Division of the Arts recognizes the importance of connecting schools with cultural institutions to promote creative learning experiences critical to a child’s academic development and a well-rounded curriculum.

Live arts performances and exhibitions provide opportunities for learning in the arts that foster creativity and innovation. In many cases, a school field trip may be the first time a student is provided with such an experience.

This grant program is designed to subsidize transportation costs that schools incur so that students can attend arts and cultural events throughout the state. Additionally, as venues engage new audiences to cultivate awareness and future participation from the next generation, there is a positive impact on Delaware’s creative economy.

Schools may receive only one TranspARTation grant per school year. Title I schools may be considered for more than one TranspARTation grant per school year if funding is available.
