The Funding Opportunity

Strategic Grants provide larger, targeted investments in initiatives designed to create meaningful, long-term impact in Hamilton County. This funding pathway supports organizations pursuing significant opportunities—such as scaling proven programs, strengthening organizational capacity, or advancing transformational projects—in alignment with HCCF’s priority areas.

Strategic Grants may also support organizations navigating significant funding disruptions, where a targeted investment can help stabilize operations, preserve critical services, or position the organization for long-term sustainability.

What is Funded

Strategic Grants support high-impact opportunities that are significant in scope and positioned for long-term community benefit. Funding may include:

• Organizational capacity-building and expansion
• Transformational or large-scale community initiatives
• Capital campaigns (matching funds required)
• Time-sensitive opportunities to stabilize operations following the loss of significant funding

The Process

Strategic Grants are offered through an invitation-only process. HCCF proactively engages organizations whose work aligns with this funding pathway and demonstrates strong potential to create lasting community impact.

In prioritizing invitations, HCCF often considers organizations with a history of partnership or prior funding, while also remaining responsive to emerging opportunities and community needs.

Organizations that have not received an invitation but believe their work aligns with the goals of Strategic Grants may submit a brief request for special consideration. Due to the limited and highly targeted nature of this funding opportunity, submission of this form does not guarantee an invitation to apply.

The ESC Perkins Technical Assistance Grant, administered by the Texas Education Agency, supports Education Service Centers (ESC) in achieving key objectives related to federal grant compliance and technical assistance. Funding of $10,000 is available for objectives 1 and 2, while $20,000 is designated for all four objectives. This initiative aims to enhance educational outcomes by providing necessary resources and training for ESC staff, thus fostering better compliance and support for local educational agencies.

The CCWH/Berks Graduate Student Fellowship, offered by the Coordinating Council for Women in History, provides a $1000 award to graduate students in U.S. history departments who are completing a dissertation. This fellowship aims to support crucial research stages or the final year of writing. Applicants must be graduate students who have achieved A.B.D. status and may specialize in any history field, ensuring diverse representation in women's history.

The Appalachian Community Fund's Technical Assistance Grants are designed to strengthen grassroots organizations in Central Appalachia. These small grants support specific technical assistance needs, enhancing skills in areas such as leadership, fundraising, and community organizing. ACF prioritizes projects that address systemic issues and promote social, economic, and environmental justice. Organizations eligible for funding must be community-led and demonstrate a commitment to creating equitable change in their communities.

The Kentucky Peer Advisory Network (KPAN) provides vital arts-related consultancy to organizations and individual artists in Kentucky. It offers expert guidance on board development, grant writing, marketing, and strategic planning at a nominal cost. Open to all arts organizations and Kentucky residents, KPAN aims to enhance community engagement through the arts and supports professional development for artists in various Kentucky Arts Council programs.

The Flynn – Barney Flynn Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of Barney Flynn, supports graduating seniors from CCISD, Tuloso-Midway, or Flour Bluff who are active in high school band and plan to enroll full-time in college. Managed by the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, which has awarded over $141 million in grants and scholarships, this scholarship aims to honor Barney's legacy while promoting educational opportunities in the Coastal Bend community.

The O'Neill Community Foundation Fund Grant supports nonprofits in O'Neill and the surrounding area, prioritizing strategic projects that enhance community betterment and economic development. Since its inception in 2005, the fund has provided resources for initiatives unlikely to receive government or charitable funding. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) non-profits and local government entities. The application process is open year-round, allowing for ongoing community support and sustainable development.

The Governor’s Awards in the Arts, coordinated by the Kentucky Arts Council, celebrate outstanding contributions to the arts by individuals and organizations in Kentucky. This prestigious program honors exemplary achievements through six distinct award categories. Each year, the Council recognizes artists, educators, and community advocates who have made a significant impact, fostering arts advocacy and cultural growth throughout the state. Applicants are encouraged to embody the core values of the Kentucky Arts Council in their submissions.

The Fall Grant Opportunities from the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation focus on enhancing accessibility through the Access to Recreation Endowment. Established in 2007, this initiative supports recreational projects that exceed basic ADA requirements, ensuring universal design for all. Eligible organizations include nonprofits, educational institutions, and government entities serving Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau counties. This funding aims to foster community well-being by promoting inclusive recreational access.

Medical Student Service Leadership Project Grant

AΩA is committed to preparing future leaders in medicine and health care. Leadership is about making a positive difference and can be developed through education, observation, experience, and by working with leader mentors. Service learning provides excellent opportunities for students to develop as servant leaders. Only one team from each school may be nominated.The Grant

The grant is a $9,000, two-year grant – $5,000 the first year, and $4,000 the second year. The grant will be paid to the sponsoring institution. 

The Local Accountability Systems is a district-wide initiative through which districts and open-enrollment charter schools develop a plan to evaluate the performance of their campuses locally. Local Accountability Systems seek to engage the community and district in establishing locally relevant accountability measures, provide parents, families, and communities with detail information about local school performance and progress over time, and continuously improve student performance and preparedness for post-secondary success. 

Dwight Nicholson Medal for Outreach

This award recognizes the humanitarian aspect of physics and physicists created through public lectures and public media, teaching, research, or science related activities. Recognition consists of a stipend of $3,000, Nicholson medal, and a certificate which includes the citation for which the recipient has been recognized. Up to $1,500 will be available for the recipient's travel expenses to the meeting at which the Medal is presented. It will be presented annually.

The Smithsonian Institution is offering the Margaret S. Vining and Barton C. Hacker Fellowship in Women's Military History for the 2025-26 term. This fellowship invites research on women’s roles in national defense up to 1945, utilizing the museum's extensive collections. Stipends of up to $30,000 are available, depending on the candidate's status. Applicants must reside in Washington, DC and commit to a minimum of three days per week at the museum. Non-US candidates should inquire about visa and tax implications.

MN Public Works - Broadband Infrastructure Grant

Broadband Infrastructure grants assist projects that help households and businesses reach the State of Minnesota broadband speed goal. 

Funding Availability

• Funded at $1,000,000 for Fiscal Year 2026 from the Taconite Environmental Protection Fund.
• The number of grants awarded is variable and dependent upon the amounts awarded to successful
• applicants.
• 1:1 match per project required.
• In-kind materials and/or labor are not eligible towards the project match.
• Consideration will be given to projects that leverage greater amounts of funding for a project from other sources.
• Architectural and engineering fees in excess of 10% of the total project costs are ineligible for reimbursement.
• Applications should be submitted within nine months of the project construction start date.

The Adirondack Foreign Language Enhancement Fund Grant aims to inspire and elevate the status of French and Spanish teachers in K-12 schools within the Adirondack Park, New York. It provides competitive grants to enhance foreign language instruction through innovative projects, cultural immersion trips, and collaboration among educators. Priority is given to initiatives that exceed school budgets and focus on advancing teaching technologies and career development for language teachers.

The Younger Chemists Committee Leadership Development Award provides essential support for young chemists to attend the Young Chemist Leadership Development Workshop at the ACS Leadership Development Institute. This award covers registration fees, transportation, lodging, and meals, promoting the development of leadership skills among participants. Young scientists under 40 and within the first seven years of their careers are encouraged to apply, making it an excellent networking opportunity to enhance their leadership qualities.

ADECA Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program

The Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program receives funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ADECA contracts with local community action agencies and the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission to deliver weatherization assistance to low-income households in all 67 counties across the state.

The mission is to reduce energy costs for low-income households, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities and families with children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. In order to receive assistance, the applicant’s income must not exceed 200% of the federally established poverty level.

Alabama Weatherization Assistance requires participants agree to minor alterations to their homes based on an assessment and energy audit conducted by trained professionals to determine the most cost-effective means of reducing energy consumption. Health and safety checks are also performed on the home.

The NSF National Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Teams program aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and marketable technologies. By providing NSF-funded researchers with entrepreneurial education, mentoring, and funding, it accelerates the transformation of foundational discoveries into viable products and services. Participants engage in hands-on customer discovery and business model assessments, leading to improved product-market fit and strategic partnerships. This initiative fosters collaboration between academia and industry, enhancing the commercialization of deep technologies.

The George William Groh Trust Grant supports medical research initiatives by providing funding to organizations that qualify as exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applications are accepted year-round, with a deadline of May 1 for consideration at the annual grant meeting. The foundation aims to enhance medical research efforts and contribute to advancements in healthcare.

The Local Share Account (LSA) Grants in Philadelphia, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, provide funding derived from slot machine license fees. These grants support various initiatives including economic development, neighborhood revitalization, and community improvement projects that enhance public interest within the city. Eligible applicants can access funds to foster growth and uplift local communities.

Goodyear Community Funding 

The Goodyear Community Funding Program aims to give financial support to nonprofits serving Goodyear residents, so that the organizations can continue their work for, and in, the Goodyear community. 

• The City allocated $214,400 for community funding grants in the FY26 budget.
• Past grant awards have ranged from $1,500 to $30,000.

The Ocotillo Wind Education Fund, part of the Ocotillo Wind Community Benefits Program, is dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities in the Imperial Valley. With an initial commitment of $3 million, this fund prioritizes early childhood development, high school graduation, and student achievement. Grants are awarded through a competitive process, aiming to improve out-of-school programs and develop educational leaders. The fund invites innovative proposals that demonstrate measurable impact and community collaboration, ensuring sustainable educational improvements for future generations.

The ASNT Foundation: Charles Hellier III Scholarship aims to support students pursuing studies in nondestructive testing (NDT). This scholarship honors Charles Hellier III, a pioneering figure in the NDT community, and provides financial assistance to aspiring professionals. The Foundation also engages in research, workforce development, and offers scholarships to enhance education in NDT, ensuring that individuals are well-prepared for careers in this vital field.

American Physical Society

The CDBG: Economic Development Grant for Industrial Infrastructure aims to revitalize local economies by funding public infrastructure projects that support private job creation. Eligible projects include improvements to streets, water, and sewer lines, ensuring public ownership of facilities. This program prioritizes businesses offering above-average wages and medical benefits while also requiring that at least 51% of new jobs created are for low to moderate income individuals. Applications are accepted year-round.
