Best Health Care Grants in Kansas

Harvest Ball Founders' Scholarship Fund

The Harvest Ball Founders’ Scholarship is created to honor the founders of the Harvest Ball Society, Patty Garney and Sandra Doolin Melinger in recognition of the leadership they demonstrated in establishing that organization to address numerous charitable needs in Clay and Platte Counties. The scholarship will be awarded to students in secondary school, military or other organizations who have demonstrated outstanding leadership.

Kansas and Missouri high school seniors who are Deaf or hard of hearing can receive scholarship support for higher education or technical programs, including students from Kansas. Greater Kansas City Community Foundation’s Hear 2 help Scholarship Fund awards US $1,000 to eligible students pursuing 2- or 4-year colleges, universities, or vocational training.

The Koch Family Foundation supports individuals in Kansas by promoting arts and education initiatives. With over $60 million awarded in scholarships and grants, the foundation encourages personal growth and community contribution. Established by Fred and Mary Koch in 1932, it continues their legacy of fostering creative talents. The GPCAH Community Pilot Grant supports innovative research and outreach aimed at enhancing the health and safety of agricultural workers in the Midwest. Industrial Renovation for Opportunity & New Economic Development (IRONED) Grant

Purpose

The IRONED pilot grant was created to preserve and bring new economic activity to underutilized, vacant, or dilapidated industrial and manufacturing buildings in rural communities, stimulating local economies and supporting business growth. This grant is meant to be gap financing for projects that need one last piece of their funding stack to get the project across the finish line.

Eligible Projects

Renovation of industrial or manufacturing facilities for projects that are ready for implementation and need gap financing. Renovation must be completed within 12 months of award and the tenant operating in the space must be in place within 18 months.

General Operating (GOS) Support Grant Program

Strengthening the state’s cultural infrastructure

The General Operating Support (GOS) grant program provides funding for Kansas public and private non-profit arts and cultural organizations, including museums, local arts councils and commissions, statewide arts and cultural service organizations, and organizations that have cultural program activities in any of the art and cultural disciplines (music, dance, theatre, creative writing, literature, painting, sculpture, folk arts, photography, crafts, media arts, visual arts, programs of museums, and other such allied, major art forms). The organization’s mission must directly support arts and cultural programming.

Public Art & Murals Grant

Connecting communities through public art & mural projects

Program Description

This program provides funding for communities to activate publicly accessible spaces for the purposes of artistic use and public programming. The program is designed to utilize permanent and semi-permanent arts installations to increase community vibrancy and provide space for artistic expression and public engagement. Rural Champions Grant

Grant Details

The Rural Champions program will provide support needed to fill the gap in driving successes throughout Kansas when there is a lack of capital or the capacity of a dedicated individual to see a project through to completion.

Rural champions communities and organizations will be selected for this program and will receive a stipend to focus strategically on a critical need for their community for 1 year. Selected Champions will develop an implementation strategy for the identified community need in the first three months and then have until December 2028 to fully implement this strategy. In this application you will describe the needs in your community and how having a Champion will benefit your community.

Examples of eligible community projects include, but are not limited to:

• Rural grocery/food access
• Childcare
• Placemaking/Beautification/Art

Match Requirement: 25% cash & in-kind ($5,200)

The Kerr Foundation Inc. offers grants to 501(c)3 organizations, focusing on education, arts, health, and human services. Priority is given to Oklahoma entities, but applications from neighboring states and Washington D.C. are also accepted. The foundation supports various project types, including capital, program, and operating expenses. Note that back-to-back grants are not allowed, enforcing a three-year gap for reapplication after funding. This ensures a broad and impactful reach for community development.

Supporting Innovative Growth through New Signage (SIGNS)

Recognizing that downtown buildings are critical economic assets in rural communities, the SIGNS Grant is designed to strengthen local economies by improving the visibility and marketability of retail and commercial businesses through high-quality storefront signage. By supporting multiple signage projects within each community, the program helps create a cohesive, attractive commercial environment that draws customers, supports small-business revenue growth, and reinforces the long-term economic vitality of rural downtowns. The grant encourages property owners and business tenants to collaborate with skilled designers and local artists to develop creative, distinctive signs that enhance business identity while respecting standard guidelines and the historic character of Kansas downtowns. Through matching funding and design support, the program elevates the visual appeal and competitiveness of locally owned businesses, contributing to stronger commercial districts and more vibrant, economically resilient communities.

Match Requirement: 50% - if the population is less than 50,000; 25% - if the population is less than 2,500

Organizations and individual artists in Kansas seeking to create transformative public art projects can apply for the Transformative Art for Public Spaces (TAPS) Grant to enhance community infrastructure and vitality. Kansas Department of Commerce supports public and community art that drives economic development, attracts visitors, and strengthens local identity, with priority for communities new to its funding.

Local public authorities in Kansas can seek funding to replace or rehabilitate locally owned “poor” bridges through this public infrastructure program. Kansas Department of Transportation provides Kansas communities with support to address bridges that are ineligible for the Off-System Bridge Program or too large for that funding, with local match requirements tied to county population density.

Kansas organizations planning transportation projects that improve safety, access, or mobility can access funding through Kansas Department of Transportation’s Innovative Technology Program, with awards up to US $1,000,000. Projects must introduce technology not currently used in the local community, such as transit, aviation, UAS, bicycle/pedestrian, or related software and infrastructure, and include at least a 25% non-state cash match.

Kansas transportation agencies and local governments seeking funding for public transit and related infrastructure in Kansas can access funding through the Kansas Department of Transportation Cost Share Program. Awards up to Up to US $1,000,000 support construction costs for projects such as public transit, bicycle, pedestrian, rail, airport, highway, local road, and bridge improvements that enhance safety and mobility.

It means that hard work leads to real opportunity, and people have the freedom to make choices about their lives without constantly falling behind.  Kansans have shaped a shared understanding of Upward Mobility through a year-long process of statewide listening, crowdsourcing, data analysis and cross-sector collaboration. Approximately 1,000 Kansans contributed ideas, insights and feedback. This process resulted in the creation of a Blueprint for Upward Mobility—a focused set of strategies to address the key barriers preventing Kansans from getting ahead.KHF is seeking bold, scalable ideas to accelerate the Blueprint. Funded projects will: 

• Advance one of the eleven Blueprint strategies 
• Operate at a regional or statewide level, or clearly serve communities experiencing concentrated economic hardship (*)   
• Launch within one year of receiving funding 
• Catalyze new approaches, strengthen cross-sector collaboration, and unlock additional resources. Rather than funding disconnected projects, KHF intends for these grants to contribute to a broader, coordinated movement advancing Upward Mobility across Kansas.

Recognizing the value that rural communities add to the culture of our state, Commerce launched this new grant program to support small-scale quality of place projects that create quick, meaningful results in rural communities under 5,000 residents, that have not received Commerce funding since 2019. Projects may range from park upgrades and downtown beautification to murals, signage, and small infrastructure improvements. Communities have used funding for playground equipment, benches and public seating, new sidewalks and walking trails, welcome and wayfinding signs, fresh paint on downtown buildings, landscaping, bike racks, and even emergency helicopter pads.

RBC Foundation – USA aims to enhance community quality of life by supporting non-profit organizations that promote diversity and positive change. In 2023, it awarded over $2.8 million in grants, prioritizing youth programs for ages 15-29, arts access for diverse populations, and mental well-being initiatives. The foundation encourages sustainable projects that foster economic independence, providing critical support for education, mental health, and cultural enrichment, thereby making a significant impact across various communities.

The Dr. George & Jeanne Tiller Fund Grant supports nonprofits in Kansas focused on advancing women's health. Since its inception, it has awarded over $1 million, emphasizing reproductive health services and education. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits in good standing. Grants range up to $25,000. The fund prioritizes projects that provide comprehensive health services, medical education, and support for women in need. Applications are subject to board approval, with specific exclusions for business expenses and advertisements.
