Best Health Care Grants in Kansas

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation offers the DGLF Summer Reading Grants, which support the development and expansion of summer reading programs aimed at Pre-K to 12th grade students, particularly new and below-grade-level readers, including those with learning disabilities. Eligible organizations, such as nonprofits, schools, and libraries within 15 miles of a Dollar General store, can apply for grants up to $3,000 to foster literacy and education initiatives.

Organizations such as schools and libraries can apply for funding to implement or expand literacy programs, purchase necessary materials, and acquire technology. The Express Health Information Outreach Awards aim to enhance public health by increasing access to biomedical information for U.S. health professionals and the general public. These awards support projects that improve health information literacy among consumers and caregivers, ensuring they can effectively find and utilize health information. Focused on partnerships and outreach to underrepresented communities, the initiative seeks to promote healthy behaviors, prevent illness, and improve health outcomes through informed decision-making.

Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS)

The MNRS originally began to provide a place for nurses to collaborate, and collaborate they did! Over time, the founding members began to realize the benefits of having an organization dedicated specifically to nursing research. With some careful attention and a lot of hard work, we have grown into the organization it is today. We're a society where scientists, innovators, and drivers of clinical practice across the career trajectory, come together to share ideas and grow our field through innovative research.

Distinguished Contribution Award

The purpose of the Distinguished Contribution Award is to recognize the scientific contribution of a member who has conducted or promoted research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region.

A few notes about our decision making:

• The earlier you apply for funding, the better. If you have an event in mid-May, and the form isn’t submitted until late April, it makes it very difficult to turn around an approval in time.
• One of the questions on the application form asks for which regions of Kansas will be served by the initiative. For the purpose of this application, please refer to the Economic Development Districts outlined by the Kansas Department of Commerce. Which counties fall into which regions are indicated on this map.
• We will also evaluate submissions based on how well they fit into our strategic framework.

Simmons First Foundation: Mini Grant

Amount:

• $1,000 up to $2,500 
•  Projects must pertain to youth (K-12) in the fields of education or health care. Mini Grants are for immediate (long-term) needs for programs and entities must be a 501c3 organization.

Simmons First Foundation: Make a Difference Grant

Amount:

• $2,500 up to $50,000

For the upcoming grant cycle, funding will be limited to programs focused on:Special Education:  K-12 Youth with disabilities, including physical disabilities, developmental and cognitive disabilities, and sensory impairments.   (examples including):

• Inclusive theater and performing arts programs
• Adapted, hands-on STEM learning
• Accessible coding, robotics, and maker-space activities
• Science-based learning adapted for diverse abilities
• Assistive technology and adaptive learning tools
• Adaptive physical education and recreation programs

Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention:  K-12 Youth (examples including):

• Evidence-based prevention programs targeting alcohol, opioids, vaping, and other substance use
• Skill-building programs that focus on refusal skills, decision making, coping strategies, and peer pressure resistanc
• Early intervention programs for at-risk youth
• Recovery support services for youth in early recovery (including peer support groups, mentoring, and relapse prevention planning)
• Youth-focused programs that teach emotional regulation, anger management, and non-violent communication
• Intervention programs for youth exposed to or at risk of violence
• Peer mediation and restorative justice programs that reduce disciplinary incidents and promote accountability

Simmons First Foundation: Environmental Grant

Amount:

• $2,500 up to $25,000

These funds are to be used for conservation and/or environmental purposes. We prefer the projects support the overall theme of youth (K-12) in the fields of education or health care, however, we do have flexibility on projects that will have an indirect impact on youth. Categories for this grant include, but not limited to: water, air, hunting/fishing, forestry, outdoor education, energy, etc.

Preference is given to students passionate about sustainability, innovation, and real-world impact, particularly those studying engineering, technology, supply chain management, natural resources, environmental sciences, or industrial innovation. The scholarship offers a $5,000 award to support students advancing sustainability through research, creativity, and engineering excellence.

The Tree Campus Higher Education Program by the Arbor Day Foundation promotes the importance of trees on college campuses, enhancing both the environment and student well-being. It provides universities with a framework to achieve recognition for their commitment to campus tree care and community engagement. Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) 

Founded in 1967, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) is a national community of academic leaders committed to developing an accomplished family medicine workforce, prepared to serve as the foundation of America’s health care system. Our members include physicians, PAs, nurse practitioners, behavioral health specialists, researchers, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals, health system executives, administrators, coordinators, fellows, residents, students, and others involved in the education of family physicians. 

The Master Preceptor Award

The STFM Precepting Awards recognize teaching contributions by individuals and teaching practices. Medical schools and residency programs can nominate teachers and teaching practices that meet the criteria. The awards are intended for those who precept students, particularly community preceptors/practices.

Greater Kansas City Community Foundation

This scholarship fund supports students who graduated from a Northland-area school district—Liberty, North Kansas City, or Park Hill—and plan to attend Metropolitan Community College, with preference given to those enrolling at the Maple Woods campus. Eligible applicants should have an average or above-average GPA of 2.5 or higher, demonstrate perseverance in overcoming personal or economic challenges, and believe in the value of hard work as a pathway to upward mobility. The scholarship provides a $3,600 award to help students pursue their postsecondary education at MCC.

Bright Lights Scholarship

Recipients are required to maintain a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.75 and provide proof of full-time enrollment. The $2,000 scholarship is typically disbursed in equal payments prior to each semester or trimester and may be used for tuition, fees, textbooks, or required course-related materials.

Board of Public Utilities Scholarship Fund

The BPU Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to high school seniors and recent graduates from Wyandotte County who are pursuing postsecondary education in vocational, technical, or four-year degree programs, with an emphasis on STEM-related fields. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as a senior at a Wyandotte County high school during the application period or be a recent graduate within the past three months, and plan to enroll in an accredited vocational, technical, apprenticeship, or four-year degree program such as engineering, computer science, or environmental science. Scholarships may be awarded on a recurring basis for up to two years, provided recipients maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA. Awards are determined through a competitive review process administered via the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, with consideration given to academic pathway, extracurricular involvement, and diversity principles. Award amounts total up to $5,000 for students attending four-year institutions and up to $3,000 for those attending two-year institutions or apprenticeship programs.

The California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant aims to support public middle and high school sports programs facing funding challenges due to budget cuts. Established by California Casualty, this grant provides financial assistance for purchasing equipment and covering travel costs for competitions. Eligible applicants must be active employees of public schools and members of affiliated education associations. Awards cannot be used for individual student recognition or fundraising projects.

Ralph Snyder Memorial Scholarship - (2) $1,000

The Ralph Snyder Memorial Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Ralph Snyder, a Dickinson County native and Chapman High School graduate. After serving in the United States Air Force during World War II, Ralph built a career in the construction industry.

The Dr. Carolyn Ghazal Dental Assistant Scholarships, offered by the Pacific Dental Services Foundation, provide financial aid of up to $5,000 for eligible dental assistant students. Applicants must be over 18, U.S. citizens or legal residents, and enrolled in a qualifying program. The scholarship emphasizes mentorship and training, supporting the next generation of dental assistants. Awards are based on financial need and application quality, with multiple cycles each year to support aspiring professionals.

Curtis G. Hames Research Award

The Curtis G. Hames Research Award honors those individuals whose careers over the years exemplify dedication to research in family medicine. The award recipient is selected by a committee representing STFM, the Association of Departments of Family Medicine, and the North American Primary Care Research Group. This award is supported by the Department of Family Medicine through the MCG Foundation's Hames Endowment of the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.  

Nonprofit organizations and educational institutions in Kansas seeking funds for durable items to support education, youth services, or civic programs can apply for the MFA Oil Foundation Grant, with awards up to US $2,000. Grants from Mfa Oil Foundation may benefit health-related community initiatives that improve quality of life in rural areas.

The Walker Charitable Foundation provides funding for charitable, religious, scientific, literary, and educational endeavors. Organizations must contact the Foundation at least 30 days prior to grant submission to discuss eligibility. The Foundation aims to support as many worthy organizations as possible, guided by its Executive Director and Board, primarily consisting of Walker family members. Over the years, it has proudly funded numerous organizations that have made significant contributions to their communities.

What does this program do?

It provides loans and grants to Microenterprise Development Organizations (MDOs) to:

• To help microenterprises startup and growth through a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund.
• Provide training and technical assistance to microloan borrowers and micro entrepreneurs.

What is an eligible area?

• Rural areas outside a city or town with a population of fewer than 50,000 residents. Urbanized areas near a city of 50,000 or more may not be eligible.
• The borrower’s headquarters may be based within a larger city so long as the project service area is located in an eligible rural area.
• The lender may be located anywhere.

 What kind of funding is available? 

Grants are available to provide technical assistance to rural micro-entrepreneurs or microenterprises, up to $205,000 annually. Funding at the requested level is not guaranteed, and at least 15 percent matching funds are required.

Loans of $50,000 to $500,000 may be used for establishing a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund managed by the Microenterprise Development Organization. Total aggregate debt is capped at $2.5 million.

The Osage Chapter Service Scholarships, funded by the Association for Women Geoscientists, support undergraduate and graduate students in geosciences. These scholarships of $500 aim to promote the participation of underrepresented groups in the field. Eligible applicants must be AWG members and enrolled in a university within the Osage region. The program encourages outreach and community service while honoring the contributions of Sean S. Thomson to the Osage Chapter.

The NCR-SARE Graduate Student Grant Program funds up to $20,000 for graduate student projects addressing sustainable agriculture in the North Central Region. Established in 2002, it supports Master's and Ph.D. students at accredited institutions. Projects can last up to 36 months, and applicants may receive only one grant during their academic career. The program aims to promote innovative solutions to agricultural challenges and enhance sustainability practices in the region.
