The Denise Fleck Memorial Scholarship was established by her family to honor a courageous woman dedicated to the prevention and intervention of tobacco use by teens. Denise was instrumental in the implementation of the “Teens Against Tobacco Use” program in Kentucky and worked extensively with many health-related organizations. This scholarship fund is designed to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses of students who are actively involved in community service activities for the prevention and intervention of tobacco use by their peers.

Friends of NRA

Friends of NRA is the National Rifle Association’s premier fundraising program, supporting the future of shooting sports. Since day one, Friends of NRA has been a 100% grassroots effort fueled by a united front to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports.

Committee volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees to make recommendations for local grant funding in areas such as youth education, women-focused clinics, law enforcement training, hunter safety, range improvement, firearms and marksmanship training and safety. Recognizing the impact American youth has on the future of the shooting sports, State Fund Committees frequently recommend grants for youth programs, allocating the most significant portion of monies to this vital area.

Grant awards fund activities and support programs in the United States to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those in the shooting sports, and to educate the public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context.

Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program - Kentucky

The Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program provides supplies, equipment, and financial support to a variety of qualified groups and programs at the local level; geared towards youth, women, law enforcement, veterans, the disabled, and the general public, including:

BrightSpring Brighter Futures Scholarship

The BrightSpring Brighter Futures Scholarship was established to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses of underserved student populations.

The Kentucky Conference Mission Grants provide financial support for mission work within the Kentucky Annual Conference and internationally. Grants of up to $2,000 are awarded to churches, institutions, and projects that align with the mission of the United Methodist Church, focusing on outreach in areas such as addiction, food insecurity, and support for refugees. This initiative aims to foster community transformation through various mission efforts across Kentucky.

The Kentucky AED Grant aims to enhance the availability of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in schools across Kentucky, addressing the critical need for timely cardiac emergency responses. With a one-time funding of $2,000 per AED, this initiative supports the purchase of new devices, replacement of outdated ones, and the establishment of robust emergency response plans. The Antoinette & Phillip Schuwey Scholarship was established to provide scholarship assistance in the form of grants to help defray college or university expenses of first year nursing students who have excelled in academics and community involvement while overcoming adversities.

The Kentucky Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC Grant aims to support local school districts and community organizations in developing effective out-of-school programs to enhance student achievement and social development. With an award amount of $150,000, this grant focuses on providing academic, artistic, and cultural enrichment for students from high-poverty schools, ensuring they meet state academic standards through engaging and comprehensive programming.

The Corporate Giving Program by the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that enhance community welfare. Focus areas include agriculture, education, fighting hunger, and public safety. Eligible applicants must have IRS 501(c)(3) status and a Taxpayer Identification number. Requests are prioritized for programs directly benefiting communities near Perdue facilities across various states. The foundation emphasizes responsible stewardship and community engagement in all funding decisions.

The Kentucky Oral History Commission (KOHC) provides grants to support oral history projects that preserve and document Kentucky's rich history. The Norfolk Southern Trades on Track SkillPointe Scholarship offers $5,000 scholarships for students pursuing trades education related to the rail industry. With over 1,000 scholarships funded and a mission to close the skills gap, this initiative empowers individuals towards high-demand careers without requiring a four-year degree, ultimately strengthening the workforce and economy.

The Burt Monroe, Jr., Avian Research Fund, established in honor of Dr. Burt L. Monroe, Jr., provides financial support for basic scientific research on birds in Kentucky. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for KOS members, with a two-year approval period. Matching funds from other sources are encouraged. The fund aims to promote avian research within the Commonwealth, while ensuring that administrative costs are not covered, and projects receiving support from other funds in the same year are disqualified.

The Anne L. Stamm Avian Education Fund Grant supports projects that educate young people about Kentucky's birds, honoring Anne L. Stamm's legacy. Open to applicants in Kentucky aged 21 and over, it prioritizes KOS members and teachers. Grants up to $5000 are available to foster interest in bird watching and conservation among children, ensuring the continuation of efforts to protect avifauna in the region.

The Ed & Debbie Galloway Scholarship was established to provide grants to defray college or university expenses of students from Shelby County, KY, who demonstrate great promise and strong work ethic.

Department for Local Government

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Department for Local Government (DLG), under the Office of the Governor, provides financial help in the way of grant and loan assistance, as well as advising local governments in matters of budget, personnel and other issues relevant to those entities.​

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program

The Department for Local Government (DLG) administers approximately $26 million annually from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

The CDBG program provides assistance to communities for use in revitalizing neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing and economic opportunities, providing infrastructure and/or improving community facilities and services. With the participation of their citizens, communities can devote these funds to a wide range of activities that best serve their own particular development priorities.

All project activities must meet at least one of three national objectives:

• Benefit to low and moderate income persons
• Prevention or elimination of slums or blight
• Meeting particularly urgent community development needs​

Funds are designated for various program areas including Community Projects, Community Emergency Relief Fund, Economic Development, Housing, Public Facilities, and Public Services (Recovery Kentucky).​

Community Emergency Relief Fund (CERF)

​​​​​​Community Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) funds are provided to give communities a means to restore infrastructure or housing that severe weather or natural disasters have negatively impacted. As part of the Commonwealth's allocation from the CDBG program, these projects will be allocated an amount to be determined based on need.

Only communities that have experienced a disaster and have a Declaration of Emergency from the Governor may submit an application for these funds.

CSX Charitable Investments offers the Pride in Service Grants to support organizations that honor and assist military members and first responders. Focus areas include safety, mental health, community bridging, workforce development, and addressing food insecurity. Eligible organizations include those with 501(c)(3) status, government entities, and educational institutions. Grants aim to uplift communities and recognize the contributions of those who serve, while ensuring alignment with specific charitable criteria.
