This initiative aims to explore how genomics can enhance health and well-being while addressing its broader societal impacts. The NHGRI encourages applications from diverse academic disciplines to promote innovative and replicable research approaches that effectively analyze the consequences of genomic advancements.

The National Science-Health-Environment-Reporting Fellowships are intended to support early-career journalists who are pursuing—or have a strong interest in pursuing —careers reporting on science, health, or environmental issues (or all three).

The program is primarily aimed at journalists in their first decade of professional work, who are interested in boosting their ability and confidence to tackle some of the most important stories of the 21st century.

The fellowship is designed to enable fellows to maintain their regular employment while attending concentrated training opportunities across the country, many of which will lead to stories for their employer or clients. Fellowship leaders and mentors will provide support and guidance through seminars, calls and e-mail consultations.

Curriculum will include basic science, interpreting medical studies, analyzing data, explaining evidence-based decisions, understanding climate science and more.

The program hopes to provide essential on-the-job training that might otherwise take years to accumulate.

Over the course of a year, selected fellows will: 

• Participate in workshops and other events held at the annual Environmental Journalism , Health Journalism  and Science Writers conferences. 
• Learn from custom webinars scheduled throughout the year for additional opportunities to gain skills, connections and resources to inform their reporting. 
• Be matched with a professional mentor.
• Receive prepaid memberships in the National Association of Science Writers, SEJ and AHCJ.
• Participate in peer-to-peer networking platforms. 
• Receive project support stipends if they are an independent journalist.

Stephen Family Community

It was Kellie’s request that the Stephen family establish a scholarship in honor of his family, who all valued education.He wanted it in memory of him; his grandfather, Leroy Stephen, who was a bus driver at Randolph Central for years; his parents, Gerald and Patsy, who have always been great supporters of the schools; his wife, Cathy, who was also an educator; and his children, who received excellent educations here in Randolph County. His hope was that this scholarship could give back just a little bit of the great experiences the Stephen family received from Randolph County schools.

The Lemelson Foundation Grant supports initiatives in invention education and entrepreneurship, aiming to empower young inventors and foster innovation. With over $300 million provided since its inception, the Foundation focuses on strengthening ecosystems for invention in the U.S. and developing countries. Virginia Davis Weber Scholarship

Virginia Ruth Davis Crew Weber was born in Winchester in 1909 to Earl C. and Mamie Davis. She graduated from Winchester High School with the Class of 1927, then attended the National College of Education in Evanston, IL, where she became certified as a teacher. Later she also attended Earlham College and Ball State University to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. “Miss Virginia,” as she was known to her elementary students, taught in Wilmette, IL, Winchester, and Centerville before retiring in 1973. 

The Virginia Davis Weber scholarship is given to a senior planning to further their education.

The John and Charlotte Michael Family Memorial Scholarship, established in 1995 by The Dayton Foundation, honors the legacy of the Michael family by providing scholarships to students from Germantown, Farmersville, and Jefferson Township. This initiative reflects the Foundation's commitment to philanthropy, community development, and educational support, ensuring that deserving students have access to opportunities that foster their academic and personal growth.

The Jonathan Dewberry Porter Memorial Scholarship, established by the family of Jonathan Porter, a dedicated veteran and Central State University Upward Bound graduate, supports graduating seniors from the program. The Julie Clare Bergman Scholarship, established in 1995 by family and friends, honors Julie's legacy by supporting students in graphic arts. It is aimed at high school seniors and current college students from Montgomery County, Ohio, who pursue a degree in graphic arts at accredited institutions. This scholarship prioritizes talent over academic performance and is geared towards those demonstrating financial need, reflecting the Foundation's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in the community.

The Justin McCurdy Memorial Scholarship, established by The Dayton Foundation, honors the legacy of Justin McCurdy, an aerospace engineer passionate about learning and sports. Armstrong County Community Foundation (The Community Foundation Serving the Heart of Western Pennsylvania)

In 1997 Merchants National Bank, an Armstrong County community bank, marked its 100th anniversary. The centennial celebration included a unique expression of gratitude to the community in the form of $100,000 to be used as a seed fund to initiate a community foundation for Armstrong County. The bank challenged the community to keep the principal balance of the endowed funds intact and spend only a portion of the interest earnings to ensure a lasting legacy.

The Brett Charmello Memorial Scholarship Fund was started by friends of Brett, after he lost his life in a tragic car accident in 2010.

This scholarship supports Montgomery County high school graduates pursuing higher education at accredited institutions. The African-American Community Foundation - Robert S. Early, Sr. Memorial Youth Scholarship, established in 2017 by the Roosevelt High School Class of 1968, supports African-American graduates from Montgomery County high schools. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be accepted into an accredited college or vocational program. The scholarship emphasizes participation in sports, particularly golf, baseball, or softball, honoring Robert S. Early's legacy as a dedicated community member and scholar.
