The Saginaw Alumni Club is one of the oldest U-M alumni organizations in the country dating back to its formation in the early 1920s. The Saginaw club first began its tradition of honoring Saginaw County students in the 1940s when it recognized outstanding football players with the All Saginaw Valley Selections. This format was later changed to an All Saginaw County Team. For the next 10 years, the club recognized both the outstanding football player and academic student. Beginning in 1992, the club recognized the outstanding academic scholar and outstanding athlete, male or female as selected by each of the schools in the county. ASTS-iMDx Research Grant for Understanding the Health Economics of in-house vs send-out diagnostics

As new diagnostics become available to the transplant community, the development of in-house expertise and infrastructure vs send out testing becomes a critical decision. In-house diagnostic testing provides faster results, improving immediate patient care and reducing follow-up visits, while send-out testing (reference labs) is better for complex, rare, or high-volume specialized tests. This grant will support health econometric research projects comparing in-house vs outsourced testing and the potential impact on patient care. The output of this research would show a model of the costs and benefits of diagnostic testing in transplantation to educate transplant centers and labs on their choice of assays.

Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus (KIP:D+) Cultural Heritage Grants

The Detroit Program’s Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus initiative is launching its first-ever Cultural Heritage round, with up to $1.25 million available for community-led projects that preserve, celebrate and activate the cultural identity of neighborhoods across Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. In partnership with Co.act Detroit and Michigan Community Resources, the program will award 10 to 15 grants of up to $100,000 each for storytelling, oral history, public art, cultural events, neighborhood signage and placekeeping work.

As we evaluate proposals, we look for efforts that:

• Engage neighborhood residents and meaningfully reflect the community in organizational leadership and implementation of project activities.
• Align with one or more of the Detroit Program Focus Areas.
• Show an understanding of and address the ways in which racial inequities have impacted the city.
• Work toward a broad, equitable and sustainable revitalization in the city’s neighborhoods.
• Complement and/or connect to networks of collaborators engaged in similar work, or who are working in the same geographic area.
