Frances E. Curtis NAACP Scholarship

For graduating high school seniors or a graduate from a high school located in Dickinson, Ottawa, or Saline Counties, with ties to NAACP-Salina

The Frances E. Curtis NAACP Scholarship was established to assist students with ties to the NAACP-Salina.

The Connie Celeste Sherman Memorial Scholarship Fund, established by family, supports students from Hampden County. Managed by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, the fund assists those enrolling in accredited U.S. post-secondary schools. For graduating high school seniors or a graduate from a Salina high school with connections to University United Methodist Church (UUMC), Salina, KS. Kansas Wesleyan University students may also apply.

The Florence Evelyn Westhoff Scholarship was established to assist students with ties to the University United Methodist Church, Salina, KS.

For Kansas high school seniors, students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs, or current professionals pursuing a teaching career at USD 327 in Ellsworth, Kansas.

Renewals

Scholarship recipients are eligible for renewal for up to three years providing the recipient satisfies one of the following criteria:

• Enrolled full-time at an accredited post-secondary institution and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale); OR
• Remain in good professional standing as determined by existing yearly evaluation procedures completed by USD 327.

Booker T. Washington Scholarship

For African-American graduating high school seniors from Saline County High School.

Background

The Booker T. Washington scholarship fund was started with the proceeds from the sale of the former Booker T. Washington Negro Center, located at 345 N. Front. It was designed for African American children and was founded as a private enterprise by Miss Janet Porter in 1939. After her death in 1943, the center was operated by the Porter family with aid from the Community Chest. In 1978 the City completed construction of the Carver Center, and the Porter family felt the Booker T. Washington Center was no longer needed. They closed the center, donating all the equipment to the Carver Center, and the property was given to the YWCA. The Y sold the property and used the proceeds to establish the Booker T. Washington Scholarship Fund.

• Students graduating from any Saline County high school.

Renewals

Scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for renewal by meeting the following:

• Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student and provide a copy of their transcript.
• Recipients must be in good standing and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
• Recipients may receive this scholarship for a total of 4 years.

The Mission of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life in the Coastal Bend by building community endowment and addressing social, educational, environmental, and cultural needs through the awarding of grants and scholarships.

• Effective grants to charitable organizations and scholarships to students
• Ethical leadership to promote and enhance area philanthropy

Scholarships

The CBCF scholarship is open each year. Scholarships awarded will be for the following academic year. Scholarships are available only to students who graduated from a high school in one of the counties in the CBCF Service Area: Aransas, Bee, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio. Thanks to our generous donors, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation (CBCF) offers scholarships to students from over 100 funds. 

Flinn - Dorothy and John Flinn Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is exclusively available to a Sinton or Taft ISD graduating senior, with a minimum 2.0 GPA, and the student must complete an essay on the applicant’s community service.

Technical Assistance Matching Fund

This fund supports nonprofit organizations seeking to improve their internal processes, management, or services. It also helps our nonprofit partners access national opportunities to learn from others. The matching nature of the fund ensures nonprofits’ own investment in the services they are seeking while also recognizing the heavy financial lift they represent and the need for outside resources to bring access within closer reach.

Request Amounts

Category 1 – General Requests

One-time grants of up to $5,000 may be requested to help pay for outside consulting services. The dollar amount requested from the Technical Assistance Fund must be matched 1:1 by the nonprofit organization. 

Category 2 – Organizational Management System

One-time grants of up to $15,000 may be requested to help pay for outside consulting services for the development and implementation of organizational management systems such as Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), Rockefeller Habits, etc.

The dollar amount requested from the Technical Assistance Fund must be matched 1:1 by the nonprofit organization. Both requested CFHZ funding and matching funding may be used over a period of up to two years.

Category 3 – “Learning from Others” Scholarship

One-time scholarship grants of up to $2,500 for individuals (with a maximum of $5,000 per organization) may be requested to help pay for registration fees, travel, lodging, and incidentals for participation in out-of-state, national level opportunities to learn from others through conferences, convenings, fellowships, site visits, and other peer learning experiences.

The dollar amount requested from the Technical Assistance Fund must be matched 1:1 by the nonprofit organization. 

The St. Patrick's and St. Anthony's Church Scholarship, provided by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, aims to support high school seniors from Northern Ottawa County. This scholarship emphasizes academic achievement, financial need, and personal goals. Applicants must demonstrate their connection to the church and submit a transcript along with other required documents. This initiative reflects the foundation's commitment to fostering educational opportunities within the community.

Batts Family Scholarship

Graduating senior or graduating early college student who attends public, private, or home school in the primary service area of the Community Foundation.

The Scott A. Flahive Memorial Scholarship, established by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, honors a dedicated law enforcement officer who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. This scholarship supports local high school graduates pursuing degrees in criminal justice or law enforcement, with eligibility based on residency, academic performance, and intent to serve in the field. Applicants must submit transcripts and relevant documentation to be considered for this meaningful opportunity.

The Runschke Family Scholarship, established by Gernot and Anne Runschke, supports students from Northwest Ottawa County pursuing vocational or trades programs. It aims to empower local youth by easing educational costs, while emphasizing community involvement and academic potential. Financial need is not a primary consideration, allowing a diverse range of applicants to qualify. This scholarship reflects the Runschke family's commitment to enhancing education and workforce development in their community.

The Ray and Sue Barrett Scholarship, offered by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, supports high school seniors in the Tri-Cities pursuing higher education in law, criminal justice, mental health, social work, or psychology. Established in honor of Ray and Sue Barrett, who valued education and mental health, this scholarship considers financial need and requires a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants must submit transcripts and relevant documents to qualify.

Aschbrenner-Spencer Music Scholarship

Graduating senior from Black River, Holland High School, Holland Christian, West Ottawa, Zeeland East, or Zeeland West.

The P.E.O. Chapter DS Scholarship supports female students from the Tri-Cities area pursuing higher education. Established by the P.E.O. Sisterhood in 2005, it emphasizes academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. Eligible candidates include graduating high school seniors and non-traditional students. The scholarship prioritizes applicants with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and those intending to attend Cottey College. The application process is straightforward, allowing candidates to apply for multiple scholarships with one submission.

The Paul J. Laninga Memorial Scholarship, established by Tamara Laninga in memory of her husband, supports graduating seniors from Northwest Ottawa County pursuing careers in accounting or business. This competitive scholarship prioritizes students demonstrating financial need and academic excellence, while encouraging applications from those planning to attend public universities. It aims to honor Paul's zest for life and create positive opportunities for future leaders in business.

The Pat and John MacTavish Fund, established in 2007 by John Mac Tavish in memory of his wife Pat, provides scholarships aimed at encouraging young women to pursue higher education in the hard sciences. Awarded by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, scholarships are competitive and based on criteria such as financial need and academic achievement. Applicants from Northern Ottawa County or specific school districts are eligible. The fund emphasizes the importance of education in fields such as math, chemistry, and computer science.

The North Ottawa Hospital Auxiliary Fund Scholarship, supported by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, offers financial assistance to students pursuing medical and healthcare-related degrees. Established in memory of Marjorie Hren Blohm, this scholarship prioritizes applicants from the Tri-Cities area who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. Applicants must be at least second-year college students accepted into a relevant program, ensuring that qualified candidates receive the support they need to succeed in their educational pursuits.

The Michael Herman Scholarship, established by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, honors a talented young soccer player who passed away tragically at 15. This scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors from the Tri-Cities area who have played soccer and wish to continue participating in college-level soccer. Financial need is not a priority, and all eligible students are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to further their education while pursuing their passion for sports.

The Melissa Skiera Myers Scholarship, managed by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, supports female students pursuing degrees in math, science, and business. Funded by Melissa Skiera Myers to alleviate educational financial burdens, this scholarship prioritizes first-generation college students and those overcoming challenges. Applicants need to submit transcripts and specific documents. With a competitive selection process, the fund aims to empower Tri-Cities women, including adult learners, to achieve their academic goals without the weight of student debt.

Ann Query Scholarship

Graduating senior who attends public, private, or home school and resides in the Zeeland Public School District area (student does not have to attend Zeeland Public Schools to be eligible)

The Mary E. Wilsberg Scholarship, established in 1988 by Mary E. Wilsberg, supports Grand Haven or Spring Lake High School graduates pursuing graduate education, including PhD programs. The scholarship emphasizes academic excellence and community service, requiring a minimum GPA of 3.0. Financial need is not a priority for applicants, who must demonstrate involvement in their school and community. This scholarship simplifies the application process by allowing candidates to apply for multiple foundation scholarships with a single submission.

Alice O. Rydell Interior Design Scholarship

Graduating senior or graduating early college student who attends public, private, or home school in the primary service area of the Community Foundation.
