RHTP 4.2b Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Prevention RFA

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) was awarded Federal funds through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of the Nebraska Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) Initiative 4.2b Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) Prevention. Through this initiative, DHHS will assist healthcare partners in their efforts to reduce preventable infections, limit antibiotic resistance, and improve healthcare outcomes in rural Nebraska.

Use of Funds

The funds are made available through cost reimbursement to healthcare facilities performing any of the following activities:

• Cost reimbursement for one of the following Antimicrobial Stewardship Training Programs upon successful completion of the certification: 
  • Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (SIDP) Antimicrobial Stewardship certificate program 
  • Making a Difference in infectious Diseases (MAD-ID) Basic Antimicrobial Stewardship Training Program
  • MAD-ID in-person Advanced Antimicrobial Stewardship Program or
  • The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) in-person Antibiotic Stewardship Training Course (Maximum 2 pharmacist per healthcare facility, with each choosing one of the above-mentioned training – reimbursement capped at $600 per pharmacist for training #1, $500 per pharmacist for training #2, $3,400 per pharmacist for training #3 and $3,800 for training #4; includes certification/training program fee for respective training, and travel expenses for in person conference). [This activity is only available to hospitals.]
• Cost reimbursement for infection preventionists (IPs) certification attempts through Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc (Maximum 2 IPs per healthcare facility – reimbursement  capped at $1,300 per IP; includes certification fee and study materials expenses). [This activity is available to all eligible facility types.]
• Cost reimbursement for infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship staff attending the Nebraska Infectious Diseases Conference (Maximum 2 staff per healthcare facility – reimbursement capped at $500 per staff for facility within 50 miles of conference center, $1000 per staff for facility between 50 to 250 miles; and $1,500 per staff for facility over 250 miles from conference center; includes registration fees, hotel stay, mileage, meals and staff time spent at the conference). [This activity is available to all eligible facility types.]
• Cost reimbursement for IT staff time spent on onboarding/maintenance of outpatient antibiotic use dashboard provided by the Collaboration to Harmonize Antimicrobial Registry Measures (CHARM) project (reimbursement will be capped at $7,500 per healthcare organization even if onboarding multiple clinics.). [This activity is only available to hospitals, and outpatient healthcare facilities.]

The Partners for Places Jobs and Inclusive Infrastructure Initiative Grants aim to support communities by leveraging infrastructure funds to create equitable projects that benefit underserved areas. This pilot program will provide funding for local workers through career training and inclusive economic practices. With grants ranging from $45,000 to $120,000, the initiative focuses on enhancing human infrastructure, fostering collaboration among key partners, and ensuring that frontline communities directly benefit from project implementations.

The Costume Society of America (CSA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded on March 23, 1973, and incorporated in the state of New York on September 12, 1973. CSA serves it members, and promotes its goals with national symposia and publications including the journal Dress and its monthly electronic newsletter CSA e-News.

The organization began forming regional groups in 1978. There are six regional groups in the United States and Canada, and one international group. Individual regions hold annual meetings, sponsor programs and publish newsletters.

Each year, CSA travel funding in an amount up to $750 is available for a Midwest Region Student Member to present at the National Symposium of The Costume Society of America. Awards may be distributed among multiple student members.

The Fund for Omaha Grant, managed by the Omaha Community Foundation, aims to strengthen local nonprofits by addressing funding gaps and enhancing community services. Priorities include economic opportunity, affordable housing, maternal health, and mental health support. Eligible applicants are public, tax-exempt organizations serving the Omaha area with annual budgets of $5 million or less. SVCF: Tom Lynch Educational Scholarship

Graduates or graduating high school seniors from the following KS counties: Mitchell, Cloud, Jewell, Republic, Clay, Lincoln, Washington, Ottawa.

Renewals: Recipients can apply as part of the total applicant pool for the second year, consecutively. Scholarship can only be received for two years.

The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants in Nebraska support communities in crisis, providing essential funding to restore access to safe drinking water. Eligible applicants include local governments, nonprofits, and tribes facing emergencies like droughts, floods, or chemical spills. Grants can fund waterline construction and treatment facilities, with amounts up to $1 million available. This initiative aims to enhance public health and environmental sustainability, fostering resilience in rural areas affected by disasters.

The Quality Improvement Grant, offered by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, provides up to $500 to licensed Child Care Homes and Centers to enhance their programs. Eligible applicants must maintain good standing and have a current Child Care Subsidy enrollment. Funds are intended for items that improve program quality, ensuring equitable care for all children, including those with disabilities. Providers must sustain business and subsidy enrollment for three years after receiving funding.

The Colposcopy Training and Equipment Grant supports public health clinics by funding clinical training for staff and the purchase of colposcopy equipment. This grant ensures that clinics can provide seamless follow-up procedures after abnormal Pap tests. Eligible applicants can request up to $4,000 for training and $15,000 for equipment costs. Funding is available on a reimbursement basis, requiring prior approval of applications and budgets before incurring expenses.

The Small Business Transportation Technical Assistance Center (Region 4) aims to empower small businesses by providing essential outreach and support. Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants Scholarship Fund

The Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants created this scholarship fund to award to a qualified individual majoring in an agricultural field.

The Nebraska Arts Council offers the Arts Accessibility for Event Services grant to provide reimbursement funds for services that enhance access to arts events. This includes essential services such as American Sign Language interpretation, video captioning, audio descriptions, and language translation. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, with a six-week advance deadline prior to the event. A Letter of Interest can be submitted if applicants are not yet certain about hiring the service.

The NCR-SARE Partnership Grant Program aims to enhance sustainable agriculture by fostering collaboration between agricultural professionals and groups of farmers. By facilitating innovative research and educational activities, this program supports projects that test new cropping strategies, develop marketing approaches, and enhance food security. Focused on the North Central Region, it encourages partnerships that drive on-farm research, ultimately improving economic viability and environmental stewardship for communities across 12 states.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation offers over 250 scholarships for dietetic interns, allowing a single application to apply for multiple awards. Scholarships range from $500 to $25,000, with eligibility for interns enrolled through June 30, 2024, including those with off-cycle matches. Applicants should consider their career goals in areas like clinical dietetics, culinary arts, and nutrition education. Academy membership is encouraged but not required. Fundraising determines the number of scholarships available each year.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation offers over 250 scholarships for graduate and doctoral students pursuing degrees in nutrition and dietetics. The Recreational Trails Program in Nebraska offers funding for developing and maintaining recreational trails, supporting activities such as hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The NCR-SARE Graduate Student Grant Program funds up to $20,000 for graduate student projects addressing sustainable agriculture in the North Central Region. The program aims to promote innovative solutions to agricultural challenges and enhance sustainability practices in the region.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation offers a variety of scholarships for students in the Dietetic Technician Program, with over 250 scholarships available. Ranging from $500 to $25,000, these scholarships help support aspiring dietetic professionals. Applicants need to complete a single application to be considered for multiple scholarships based on eligibility. Membership in the Academy is encouraged but not mandatory for applying.

The Royalty Fields Grant Program, presented by the Kansas City Royals Foundation, supports the enhancement of youth baseball and softball facilities across the Midwest. This initiative offers matching grants for major renovations, including essential upgrades such as new sod, infields, fencing, and dugouts. Eligible projects include professional photography, group tour marketing, and participation in tourism seminars. Grants require a 25% match and prioritize projects that support diversity and inclusivity, ensuring a broad appeal to potential visitors.

CSA Midwest Region: Beth Dunlap Award

 The Midwestern Region presents The Beth Dunlap Award at the Regional Symposium. The award will be offered to a person who has made contributions worthy of the highest commendation and the achievements will have continued importance. Beth Dunlap was one of the founding members of the Midwestern Region. A fashion illustrator and artist, she passed away in 2009.
