Community Foundation of Northern Nevada
Established in 1998 as a Nevada nonprofit 501(c) 3 Corporation, the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada has distributed more than $200 million in grants and scholarships from over 300 charitable funds to strengthen our Nevada home.
Scholarship Program
The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada’s Scholarship Program is intended to help students cover the ever-increasing cost of tuition. Some of our scholarships are based on financial need, but others represent an award for achievement. These scholarships typically go to students who have excelled in an academic area or have shown they can balance academics, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities. There are also scholarships designated for students who have overcome adversity, students pursuing degrees in high-need areas, and adult learners outside the traditional college age group. Community Foundation scholarships can help cover tuition, books, and on-campus housing.
Steingard Family Scholarship
Established in 2019, the Steingard Family Scholarship will award up to $2,500. Awards have the potential to be renewed with reapplication for up to three additional years.
Small Community Drinking Water Infrastructure Grant Program
The State of Nevada offers a grant program to help small communities pay for important drinking water infrastructure. This program was created by state law to support capital projects that are needed to meet requirements set by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water, and the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act.
This program is designed to close the gap between what a project costs and what a community can afford. Communities are expected to contribute as much as they reasonably can before requesting state assistance. For larger projects, the community must finance as much of the work as possible at the local level, with the grant helping to cover the remaining need.
The grant program helps fund projects that improve drinking water systems and meet state and federal drinking water standards. Examples of eligible projects include:
Summer Reading Program Grants
Applicants may request up to $15,000
The Summer Reading Program (SRP) Grant provides up to $15,000 per library to strengthen and expand literacy and learning driven summer programming. Funding supports activities that advance educational equity, increase access to information resources, and promote lifelong learning.
Because Summer Reading Programs vary widely in scale across Nevada, requested funding should reasonably reflect anticipated participation levels and the size of the population served. Larger library systems serving higher numbers of participants may request funding closer to the maximum award level, while smaller systems should scale requests appropriately to the scope of their local program.
