Best Quality of Life Grants in North Carolina

The Rachael and Ben Vaughan Foundation offers grants ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 for projects focused on animal rights, education, environmental preservation, poverty reduction, and religious initiatives. The foundation prioritizes local Texas projects but accepts applications from outside the state. Grants are awarded only to tax-exempt organizations, and projects should be completed within twelve months. Fellowship in Anthropology and Black Experiences

General

This writing fellowship expands anthropological conversations and builds capacity in anthropology, both as a career and a field of study, by amplifying perspectives previously underrepresented in the discipline. The Fellowship in Anthropology and Black Experiences supports individuals whose research draws on Black studies, critical race studies, diasporic Africana studies, the vernacular insights of communities of color, and other sources of inspiration growing out of global Black experiences, to advance new lines of scholarship in any of anthropology’s subfields. We hope to attract applicants working in diverse areas, including but not limited to Black communities.

Applicants should show how the Fellowship would enable them to succeed at a critical juncture in their career, alter their trajectory in the field, and enable them to reach new networks and audiences within and beyond anthropology. 

As part of the 9-month fellowship, the Fellow will join a cohort of awardees and benefit from workshops and mentoring events designed to help them amplify their writing project’s impact within the public sphere.

Award Money

Fellows receive a stipend of $80,000 over 9 months. You are welcome to request the funds be paid directly to you or through an affiliated institution. 

The SUS Resident Research Scholar Award offers $30,000 for one year to surgical residents engaged in basic or translational research. Eligible candidates must have completed two years of training and commit to full-time research with an SUS member. Notably, applicants must avoid mentors on the exclusion list, ensuring a fair and competitive application process. This funding promotes innovative surgical research and supports the development of future leaders in the field.

Humphrey-Ragsdale Scholarship Fund

Criteria

Residents of Craven County or graduates of a Craven County high school who are pursuing higher education at a two-year or four-year college or university, community or technical college, apprenticeship program, or pursuing graduate school or other professional degree such as dental, medical, law or seminary. Preference for those with a connection to First Baptist Church of New Bern, including but not limited to a church member, family of a church member, employee or former employee, family of employee or former employee, or youth group member.

This funding opportunity aims to bolster the cancer surveillance workforce through educational initiatives. By enhancing collaborations with cancer partners and developing tools for improved data quality, this program will expand the capacity of registrars. Efforts will focus on recruitment and retention, ultimately ensuring compliance with Public Law 102-515. Strengthening the cancer registrar workforce will lead to timely and accurate cancer data submission, supporting public health objectives.

GLCCF Personal Services Scholarship

To award annually a scholarship to a qualified applicant who intends to further his/her education toward obtaining training to work in the Personal Services area.

The Eastern Band of Cherokees Community Foundation's Unrestricted Fund provides vital support for local nonprofit organizations serving tribal members in several counties. Founded in 1991, the foundation aims to enhance community assets through grants ranging from $500 to $1,000, with a total grantmaking cap of $4,500. This fund allows for flexible responses to community needs, fostering development and outreach that benefits the Eastern Band of Cherokees.

The Richard “Rick” Roy Washburn Memorial Scholarship Fund supports students pursuing construction careers within 75 miles of specific Minnesota high schools. Named after a dedicated Ulland Brothers Inc. employee, this scholarship offers $1,000 annually for up to two years, promoting education in fields like Diesel Mechanics and Civil Engineering. Eligible applicants must maintain a 2.8 GPA and demonstrate community involvement, ensuring they are well-rounded candidates for this financial assistance.

The Philip W. Sheridan-Tighe and Bond Scholarship Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, supports graduating high school seniors from Hampden and Hampshire Counties pursuing civil engineering at a four-year college. Applicants can receive up to $3,000 in scholarships, which may influence college financial aid. Eligibility extends to students enrolling in accredited post-secondary schools in the U.S., including those from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The Building Communities of Recovery program aims to enhance access to long-term recovery support for individuals facing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. By empowering organizations to mobilize community resources, this initiative fosters a collaborative environment that promotes sustained recovery. Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the program emphasizes the importance of community connections in the recovery process, ensuring that individuals receive the support they need to thrive.

The Catawba Valley Community Foundation provides grants to enhance community life in Alexander, Caldwell, and Catawba counties. The Veneklasen Research Foundation Grant supports scientific research in acoustics and related fields, promoting high standards of research. Eligible applicants include public charities and individuals with a demonstrated interest in acoustics. The NCI Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) supports early-stage postdoctoral researchers transitioning to independent faculty positions. The Stephen J. Roy Memorial Scholarship is available to high school seniors who reside in Larimer County and are interested in law, government, debate, or similar law-related educational activities.

Scholarship awards are one-time awards. The amount awarded to a selected recipient may be used for the cost of attendance. All scholarships will be paid directly to the recipient’s school and must be used for the upcoming academic year. The Perry J. Gehring Diversity Student Travel Award recognizes outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups who are presenting at the Society of Toxicology Annual Meeting. Awardees, selected from participants in the SOT Undergraduate Diversity Program, receive a plaque and a travel stipend to support their attendance. This initiative honors Perry J. The Agnes and Margaret Macmillan Scholarship, established by the Saint Andrew's Society in New York, offers five annual scholarships worth $45,000 each. Aimed at fostering academic exchange, it supports US students studying in Scotland and Scottish students in the US. Candidates must demonstrate Scottish descent and reside in specific Northeastern states.
