Community Foundation of Randolph County

Our mission is to bring people and resources together to strengthen the quality of life, both now and in the future, for the residents of Randolph County.

The Community Foundation’s work falls into three major categories: grant-making, donor service, and community convening. Our most visible activities are the grants and scholarships we award each year. Most of these awards come from income earned from permanently endowed funds. Scholarships and other grants come from funds that donors have established for specific purposes.

Ethan Cheesman Memorial Scholarship

Ethan Taylor Cheesman, a promising young athlete and student at Union Jr./Sr. High School, went to heaven on May 6, 2009 at the age of 15. Born in Muncie to Gregory D. and Paula K. (Clevenger) Cheesman, Ethan was a well-rounded individual with a passion for sports, music, and animals. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Losantville and excelled in various extracurricular activities, including track and field, basketball, cross-country, student council, and baseball. He was also a member of the band, playing both trumpet and French horn. Ethan’s kind and gentle nature, coupled with his great sense of humor, made him beloved by his friends and family. This scholarship honors his memory and supports students who embody his spirit and dedication.

Bojangles Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship

The Bojangles Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship was established at the Community Foundation in 2024 by Arnold Dale Haywood in the spirit of helping students take a step towards building a brighter future. Mr. Haywood’s parents, John and Diane, were humble, hardworking, and ethical people. They understood that the foundation of parenting is to give their children love and support, as well as encouragement to always believe in the promise of tomorrow. They gave him the chance to chase his dreams.

Mr. Haywood has established the Bojangles Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship to honor his parents and to give local youth the same encouragement and opportunities that were afforded to him.

The Doyle O. and Lelia Jane Bateman Scholarship

The Doyle O. and Lelia Jane Bateman Scholarship, established at the Community Foundation in 2018, honors the memory of husband and wife of 46 years, Doyle and Jane Bateman. Jane worked as a successful realtor in Waynesboro for over 25 years and enjoyed giving back to her community.

The Doyle O. and Lelia Jane Bateman Scholarship will provide college scholarships to deserving students of any age, to include high school seniors (public, private, and homeschool) as well as adult students residing in Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County. Selection considerations for the scholarship include, but are not limited to, financial need, involvement in school and community activities, and a strong desire to succeed in school and life.

Mission and Vision

The Mission of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life in the Coastal Bend by building community endowment and addressing social, educational, environmental, and cultural needs through the awarding of grants and scholarships.

The Foundation’s Vision is to provide the Coastal Bend with:

• Ethical leadership to promote and enhance area philanthropy

Scholarships

The CBCF scholarship is open each year. Scholarships awarded will be for the following academic year. Scholarships are available only to students who graduated from a high school in one of the counties in the CBCF Service Area: Aransas, Bee, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio. Thanks to our generous donors, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation (CBCF) offers scholarships to students from over 100 funds.

Downes - Jay and Rheba Downes Memorial Scholarship

Purpose

In memory of James Ed (Jay) Downes, an Alice businessman and civic leader, and his wife, Rheba. Mr. Downes founded and served as chief executive of Energy Dynamics, an oilfield equipment and service provider in the domestic and international markets. He was named 1995 Citizen of the Year by the Alice Chamber of Commerce and is a member of its Hall of Honor. He served on the Alice Industrial Foundation Board, the Alice/Jim Wells County Transportation Committee and served as president of the Jim Wells County Master Planners Association in 1993-1994. Jay was an avid golfer and understood the value of a university education. He died unexpectedly in 2000. His wife, Rheba, passed away in 2013.

Central Kentucky Community Foundation

Hardin County Bar Association Scholarship

The applicant must be a resident of Hardin County.

Additional documentation requirements

• An essay expressing how you are an example of a good citizen, how you exhibit a keen sense of justice and fair play in your attitude towards others, why the financial assistance is important to you and any interest you have in a legal career
• Letter of recommendation from guidance counselor or principal

Provides scholarships to students with financial needs, preferably to those from families with a historical connection to the garment manufacturing industry in Upper Bucks or Eastern Montgomery County- primarily the Quakertown, Pennridge, Palisades, and Souderton school district regions.

Provides scholarships to students in the primary geographic areas served by the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce including the areas of Central Bucks School District, Centennial School District, Pennridge School District, Council Rock School District and New Hope Solebury School District. Open to students in public schools, private schools or home schooled in these areas. Award considerations are based on community involvement, GPA and financial need.

Cox - Justin Forrest Cox "Beat the Odds" Memorial Scholarship

Purpose

Established in memory of Justin Forrest Cox, who died at age 16. Justin was well-respected and had the ability to become friends with anyone. Destined to become great, he died before his time. Justin greatly admired those who persisted against daunting odds to achieve their goals. This scholarship is meant for those who have "Beaten the Odds."

Scholarships are to be used for books and tuition only and can be carried over to later years.

Beulah Brownfield Memorial Adult Scholarship 

Scholarship grants will be awarded to adults (minimum age of 21) who are residents of Coshocton County, Ohio, who desire to advance their education and/or training at a two- or four-year degree-or certificate-granting school. 

George Leach Memorial Scholarship

A one-time award for an individual who is an honorably discharged veteran or who is actively serving. Scholarship grants will be awarded to adults (minimum age of 21) who are residents of Coshocton County, Ohio, who will be attending either a two or a four-year degree or certificate-granting institution or trade school.

Jones Metal Products Company Adult Legacy Scholarship

Scholarship will be awarded to adults (minimum age of 21) who are residents of Coshocton County, Ohio, who desire to advance their education and/or training at COTC Coshocton Campus by pursing a two-year degree or certificate.

Kenneth Berry Memorial Adult Scholarship

Scholarship grants will be awarded to adults (minimum age of 21) who are residents of Coshocton County, Ohio, who desire to advance their education and/or training at a two or four-year degree or certificate-granting school.The award is $1,000.00 and is renewable for a second year.

Scholarship grants will be awarded to adults (minimum age of 21) who are residents of Coshocton County, Ohio, who desire to advance their education and/or training at a two- or four-year degree-or certificate-granting school.

Ruth Schooler Memorial Adult ScholarshipScholarship grants will be awarded to adults (minimum age of 21) who are residents of the area in and around the Village of Frazeyburg, Ohio, who desire education and training for career or advancement in a career in business, nonprofit organizations or government as an executive, administrative or personal assistant; executive secretary, business or office manager, operations manager, chief of staff, clerical assistance, operations manager, information manager or similar position.

Eligibility

In order to qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria and submit the following:

• Complete application form
• Proposed curriculum and plan of study in one or a combined of two or more education institutions and degree(s) sough if any;
• Career plan, including objectives, description of positions(s) sought;
• Evidence of a commitment, intention and abilities to complete the chose course of study and succeed in the planned career and; information about financial needs, if any.

Teacher Mini-Grants allow K-12 teachers to pursue innovative ideas outside the scope of school budgets. All grants are geared towards encouraging the design of innovative projects, activities or events in any academic subject to impact any segment of the school and may be used for supplies, equipment or any other expense related to a special project. 

Teacher Mini-Grants are available for all academic areas.

• Ashland City Schools Foundation teacher mini-grants are awarded only to Ashland City Schools teachers grades K-12. Maximum grant is $2,000.

• Ashland County Community Foundation teacher mini-grants are awarded to teachers grades K-12 in all accredited Ashland County public and private schools. Maximum grant is $2,000.

About Marion Community Foundation

Altrusa Club of Marion Scholarship I

The Altrusa Club of Marion Scholarship Fund I was established in memory of Lynda L. Williams, Ruth Kramer, and Clara J Walters. It supports life-long Marion County students pursuing higher education.

Brown County Community Foundation

BCCF operates as a 501 (c)(3) corporation. It professionally manages and distributes income from charitable bequests consistent with the donor’s wishes and interests. In other words, BCCF manages charitable funds, making grants to local, nonprofit organizations based on advice from donors. Donors can specify a specific organization or a general area of concern within the community to which their gift be directed.

Scholarships

The Foundation manages several academic scholarship funds, many established expressly for Brown County High School graduates. 

Additionally, through the Foundation’s affiliation with The Lilly Endowment Inc., over forty Brown County residents have received four-year full-tuition scholarships through the Endowment’s Community Scholars Program.

BCCF Scholarships are available to current high school graduates, students currently enrolled in college, past graduates planning to enroll, as well as G.E.D. graduates.

Shaffer Family Scholarship

Purpose

To provide educational scholarships for students who are accepted into and attending accredited two or four year public or private intuitions of higher learning.
