A Shelby County resident who is a graduate of any high school within Shelby County and is pursuing a Registered Nursing degree. 

Selection based upon:

Every Battle Creek area resident shall have the resources to access post-secondary education and training.

Beyond tuition, many funds support total cost of attendance — books, fees, equipment, and in some cases childcare or transportation.

Checks are made payable to the educational institution indicated on the follow-up and mailed directly to the educational institution. Checks are typically mailed in early August.

Ruble Family Scholarship Fund

The Ruble Family Scholarship was established in 2010 in honor of Cindy Ruble's many years of service and her retirement as Superintendent of Lakeview School District. The purpose of the scholarship is to reduce barriers for at risk Battle Creek area graduating seniors and adults seeking educational opportunities beyond high school. The fund honors Cindy's dream that every graduate has the skills needed and resources available to continue their post-secondary education. "Every child has a dream for what they can be and for what they can contribute to society and that dream can and will become a reality!"

The Ajay Castro Scholarship Fund, managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports female undergraduate students pursuing a degree in communications. This scholarship is aimed at adult learners or current college students who have graduated high school or earned a GED. Although it is not renewable, recipients can reapply annually. Preference is given to those returning to college after a break, ensuring that the fund continues to empower women in education.

The Abrazo/Mitchard Birthmother Scholarship Fund, managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports birthmothers who have placed their children for adoption through Abrazo Adoption Associates. This fund offers financial assistance for tuition and educational expenses for full-time students pursuing various degrees. Eligible applicants include adult learners and current college students. Although the scholarship is not renewable, recipients can apply for an additional year of funding, making education accessible to those in need.

The American Parkinson Disease Association offers Post-Doctoral Fellowships to support research focused on Parkinson's disease. These fellowships, lasting two years, provide up to $75,000 per year to eligible post-doctoral trainees at U.S. institutions. Applicants must have completed their MD, PhD, or residency within two years prior to the award. Funding can cover direct research costs, but not travel or publication expenses over $1,000, ensuring resources are allocated effectively for impactful research.

The Champions for Change program, initiated by the Center for Native American Youth at the Aspen Institute, empowers Native youth through leadership opportunities. Founded in 2011, it selects 5-6 exceptional young leaders (ages 14-24) each year to inspire their communities and promote positive change. Participants engage in tailored advocacy training, fostering skills to create impactful stories from Indian Country, while all applicants join the CNAY network, enhancing their community involvement.

Fred Frese Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by NAMI Summit County to honor and memorialize Dr. Frederick J. Frese III by providing scholarships to graduate-level students seeking a degree in the area of mental health treatment. Dr. Frese was a renowned psychologist and fierce health advocate for the rights and dignity of people with a mental illness. His life experience as a person with schizophrenia, as well as living a life of tremendous accomplishment, gave Dr. Frese a unique perspective and a unique voice.

The Creative Native Call for Art invites Indigenous artists aged 5 to 24 to showcase their talents through diverse artistic expressions. Participants can submit works inspired by the theme of what is sacred to them and their community, with opportunities for national recognition and awards, including a grand prize of $1,000. This initiative aims to celebrate and support young artists in their creative journeys while honoring cultural significance and community values.

The Joey Johnson Memorial Scholarship, established in 2019 by the East Texas Communities Foundation, honors Joey Johnson's caring spirit. This scholarship is available for graduating seniors from Gladewater, Sabine, West Rusk, or Overton High Schools, supporting students pursuing any field of study at colleges across the U.S. Financial need is considered, and recipients can renew the scholarship for up to three years by maintaining a 3.0 GPA and full-time status.

The Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant For All (AARGA) Program supports early-career investigators in their first seven years as independent researchers. This grant aims to fund projects that develop preliminary data and test new hypotheses in Alzheimer’s and related dementia research. Areas of interest include disease mechanisms, biomarker development, and health equity. Applications are welcome from both U.S. and international researchers, fostering innovation and collaboration in the fight against dementia.

The Robert L. and Pauline H. Minton Memorial Scholarship Fund, established by the children of Pauline H. Minton, honors their parents' legacy as dedicated Battelle employees and single parents. This scholarship aims to support children of full-time Battelle staff who are pursuing education at public or nonprofit colleges in the U.S. With an award amount of $1,000, it reflects a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for deserving students in central Ohio.

The Mary Kay Owens Memorial Fund, managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports high school seniors from Bexar County pursuing education in physical therapy. This fund aims to assist students actively participating in varsity athletics who require financial aid to attend college. Established to make a meaningful impact, the foundation has been providing grants and scholarships since 1964, enhancing the quality of life in the San Antonio community.

College Foundation, Inc.

College Foundation, Inc. (CFI), a non-profit corporation serving North Carolina students and families since 1955, administers education loan programs, several major grant and scholarship programs funded by the State of North Carolina for students attending North Carolina colleges and universities, and the tax-advantaged "NC 529" college savings program on behalf of the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program

The TEACH Grant Program provides grants of up to $4,000 a year to students who are completing or plan to complete course work needed to begin a career in teaching. More information may be found at the Federal Student Aid TEACH Grant website.

Repayment Information

As a condition for receiving a TEACH Grant, you must sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve in which you agree to (among other requirements) teach

• in a high-need field;
• at an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves students from low-income families; and
• for at least four complete academic years within eight years after completing (or ceasing enrollment in) the course of study for which you received the grant.

The AABCF Research Grants, offered by the American Association of Birth Centers Foundation, provide funding up to $5,000 for research projects focused on the birth center model of care. Open to individuals and organizations, these grants aim to enhance knowledge and practices in maternity and women's health care. Projects must demonstrate a clear plan and ability to complete the research on schedule, ensuring impactful contributions to the field.

The Fund shall annually distribute two (2) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.

The FSF Case Study Scholarship invites talented fashion students to tackle real-world challenges in the industry. Open to full-time students at U.S. four-year colleges, this annual scholarship provides funding for educational expenses, mentorship opportunities, and access to internships. Vanguard Resident FellowshipThe American Psychiatric Association has participated in the Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) since 1973. The program goals are to advance the quality of mental and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services and improve mental health care outcomes for all. The program seeks to increase the number and quality of psychiatrists who teach, administer services, conduct research, and provide direct mental and/or substance use disorder services to our Nation’s communities, and to treat and serve populations with higher prevalence of behavioral health challenges and conditions more effectively.Program Benefits:

Smith Education Scholarship, offered by the Erie County Community Foundation, supports graduates from Erie County high schools pursuing education degrees at Bowling Green State University. Established in 1995, this scholarship emphasizes financial need and is renewable at the committee's discretion. Preference is given to Edison High School graduates and students demonstrating a strong work ethic while balancing academics and community service, ensuring a lasting impact on the local educational landscape.

The Joe Salek Scholarship for Theater Arts Trust, administered by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports students pursuing a degree in Theatre Arts, including acting, playwriting, and design. Open to high school seniors and college students in the USA, this scholarship requires a minimum 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment. Renewable for up to one year, it aims to empower the next generation of theater artists by providing essential financial aid for tuition, fees, and living expenses.

The Ruth F. Parker Scholarship, established by Ruth Parker in honor of BGSU Firelands, supports individuals from Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties pursuing education at BGSU Firelands. This scholarship aims to enhance the quality of life in the community by empowering students with financial assistance and recognizing academic promise. The PEO, Chapter BE Scholarship, offered by the Erie County Community Foundation, supports female graduates of Erie County high schools pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees. Since 1995, the foundation has focused on enhancing community needs and leadership, aiming for a lasting impact in Erie County, Ohio. This renewable scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee, ensuring continued support for students dedicated to their academic pursuits.

The SummerTime Kids Grants, offered by the Stark Community Foundation, support innovative summer youth programs in Stark County, Ohio. Grants of up to $2,000 are available to tax-exempt organizations and government entities that enhance youth engagement through education, arts, and community service. Priority is given to programs that foster character development, provide healthy meals, and create opportunities for exploration, ultimately enriching the lives of participants and benefiting the community.

Community Diversity FellowshipThe Community Diversity Fellowship is a unique opportunity for psychiatry residents from diverse backgrounds and residents who are committed to serving minority and vulnerable populations. The fellowship provides professional development, training, mentorship, and a field placement component (up to 15 hours per month) designed to add exponential impact in the delivery of culturally competent psychiatric care across hard to reach and traditionally underrepresented communities. These populations include—but are not limited to—American Indians/Native Alaskans, Asian Americans/Native Hawaiians/Native Pacific Islanders, Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, LGBTQ, and religious minorities.Program Benefits:

The African-American Community Fund aims to enhance African-American participation in philanthropy, supporting diverse non-profits in the Dayton/Greater Miami Valley region. Grants typically range from $500 to $1,000, focusing on initiatives that promote community resource efficiency, coordination among organizations, and volunteer involvement. Eligible nonprofits must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entities with a diversity policy. The fund does not support general operations, individual pursuits, or endowments.
