Oregon Sea Grant

Established at Oregon State University in 1971 as one of the first four Sea Grant College Programs designated in the nation, Oregon Sea Grant is now one of 34 programs within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Sea Grant College Program. Congress established the national Sea Grant program in1966. Oregon Sea Grant is cooperative program between NOAA and Oregon State University. Our programs serve all of Oregon. Our core-funding is from NOAA Sea Grant and requires a 50% match of non-federal funding. Oregon State University is our primary non-federal fiscal partner, but we rely on many other collaborators and partners, including local governments, agencies, industry, and philanthropy to expand our capacity to address ongoing, unexpected, and emerging needs of Oregon's coastal communities and ecosystems.

We address regionally and nationally strategic issues through an integrated program of competitive, rigorously reviewed research, extension services and projects, and public education. We support dynamic, inventive, and flexible approaches to meet the needs of communities in changing natural and social environments.

Program Development Grants

These funds generally are not intended to supplement an existing project, but to provide seed money for exploratory or high-risk efforts, or to respond to urgent needs or unforeseen opportunities that require a timely effort.

In addition to competitive grants awarded on a two-year cycle, Oregon Sea Grant offers modest grants for project opportunities or special circumstances, when resources are available. These projects typically arise between the regular application periods and must align with the Oregon Sea Grant strategic plan. These funds generally are not intended to supplement an existingproject, but to provide seed money for exploratory or high-risk/impact efforts, or to respond to urgent needs or unforeseen opportunities that require a timely effort. Oregon Sea Grant also considers requests for event support (or total requests less than $2,500) through our Conference and Activity Support program (see the Oregon Sea Grant “Conference and Activity Support Policy” for details).

Funding

Development grants are modest in size (total awards typically do not exceed $10,000) and should be one year or less in duration. Larger requests are occasionally considered, and are subject to peer review and approval by the National Sea Grant Office. Given our limited funding, success of requests in excess of $10,000 (total award) will be lower. While cost share is not required for program development proposals, opportunities for leveraged funds are welcome. Please contact us to discuss possible cost share for your project.

Program Development Submission Eligibility for April – December 2026 ONLY: Anyone residing in Oregon who can receive a personal services contract from OSU and is / can be set up in the Federal SAM system is eligible to apply for Oregon Sea Grant (ORSG) Program Development funds up to $6,700 (direct costs) during the period April – December 2026, funds permitting. Awards over $6,700 (direct costs) will be made only through colleges and universities.

The Oregon Sea Grant Activity and Conference Support Grant offers funding opportunities to university-based researchers focused on ocean and coastal issues. There are two streams for this grant: Stream One – Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations; and Stream Two – Renewable Energy and Improvements to Buildings

Since its inception, the program has invested over $346 million, training more than 4,000 leaders. The initiative focuses on advancing social mobility and economic opportunities, ensuring affordable housing, and fostering resilient communities. Dollar Tree Gift Card Program 2026

Every Kindness is a Gift is a gift card grant program made possible through the generosity of Dollar Tree and managed by the team here at Gift Card Bank. We are a nonprofit organization that specializes in the distribution of gift cards and our mission is to improve well-being and build financial stability by supporting people through their time of need.

Through Every Kindness is a Gift, nonprofit organizations and Title I schools located in the 48 contiguous states may apply to receive a grant of Dollar Tree gift cards.

Gift cards received through these grants are meant to be distributed directly to individuals and families in need. A primary goal of the program is to give gift card recipients the dignity of choice by empowering them to shop for what they need themselves. By putting gift cards directly in the hands of our neighbors in need, we are able to increase access to essentials like food, school supplies, paper products, cleaning products, and hygiene items.

In 2026, there will be two rounds of grant distributions. In each round, we will award a number of grants between $2,500 and $10,000.

Round One is a summer distribution. Gift cards awarded in Round One will arrive in late June, while kids are on break and back-to-school is around the corner. Round Two is a holiday distribution. Gift cards awarded in Round Two will arrive in early November, as the end-of-year holidays approach.

We know that these are times of year when budgets are tight. Through these gift card grants, we hope to connect individuals and families directly to the essential resources they need during difficult months.

With an annual budget of approximately $3.4 million, the foundation prioritizes initiatives that promote responsible environmental practices, clean energy, and waste reduction. Grants between $25,000 and $75,000 are available for projects at various levels, focusing on innovative solutions that foster community partnerships and address root causes of environmental challenges.

The Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research Program, celebrating 100 years of supporting research, offers financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students. Members can receive grants ranging from $500 to $5,000, while non-members can apply for up to $1,000. Additionally, there are specific funds available for astronomy and vision-related research. Engagement Grants aim to facilitate projects that foster communication and engagement with landowners and the community regarding restoration, acquisition, or resource assessment initiatives. These projects must demonstrate a clear connection to specific geographic areas and address ecosystem goals, ensuring measurable outcomes. Education projects are excluded, as eligibility focuses on activities directly linked to habitat protection and restoration, striving to enhance awareness and skills in watershed management.

The Organization Collaboration Grant Program, offered by the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB), aims to foster strategic collaborations that enhance local organizations' sustainability and ecological outcomes. Eligible applicants include groups that support these efforts, especially those with a watershed council, soil and water conservation district, or land trust. Grants can go up to $75,000, enabling organizations to evaluate structures or pursue mergers to improve service delivery and community engagement.

The Forest Collaboratives Grant Program, established by the Oregon Legislature in 2013, aims to enhance restoration efforts on federal forests in Oregon. By providing funding through a competitive process, it supports collaborative groups in developing and implementing restoration projects that focus on vegetation management on USFS- and BLM-managed lands. The program seeks to increase the complexity and acreage of these projects while improving the capacity of local collaboratives to achieve their goals.
