For 30 years, the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation has served as a partner in philanthropy to credit unions, with a mission to empower and inspire credit unions in the Carolinas through collaborative opportunities to enrich our communities. A great example of this collaborative philanthropy is our scholarship program. 

More than 20 credit unions in North Carolina and South Carolina have active managed funds at the Foundation. The generosity of these credit unions helps hundreds of high school seniors as well as undergraduate and graduate students receive scholarship funds each year.

As a member of any of the following credit unions, you may apply for a scholarship. 

MTC Federal Credit Union Scholarship Fund

For MTC Federal members who are pursuing an undergraduate degree and seeking financial assistance.

If you are an MTC Federal Credit Union member pursuing an undergraduate degree, the MTC Federal Scholarship Program may be able to provide financial assistance. For those who apply but aren’t selected, the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation General Fund Scholarship offers another opportunity.

For those who apply to the MTC Federal Foundation Scholarship Program but aren’t accepted, the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Scholarship may be able to provide financial assistance.

Scholarships do not automatically renew; selected recipients will receive a one-time distribution of funds. However, prior recipients are welcome to reapply.

The Tony Daniel Memorial Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Abilene, supports students from various high schools, including Coleman and Santa Anna. This scholarship honors Anthoney 'Tony' Daniel, a dedicated educator and FCA advocate, who inspired many during his life. Award amounts range from $500 to over $5,000, with payments sent directly to educational institutions for the fall and spring semesters, aiding students in their pursuit of education.

The Joyce & Duane Plyter Academic Scholarship offers financial assistance ranging from $500 to $1000 for students from the Milton-Freewater, Oregon area. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 while enrolled. This scholarship is available for all four years of undergraduate studies, with annual applications required. Additionally, two scholarships are offered: one for trade school students and another for those pursuing general college education.

The Winters Area Foundation Alumni Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Abilene, supports Winters alumni currently enrolled in college. With awards ranging from $500 to over $5,000, this scholarship aims to ease the financial burden of higher education. Payments are made directly to educational institutions for the fall and spring semesters. This initiative highlights the Foundation's commitment to empowering students through financial assistance and fostering educational opportunities.

The Link Foundation offers the Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation Ph.D. Fellowship, providing six fellowships of $35,000 each for Ph.D. students. This fellowship aims to advance research in ocean engineering and instrumentation, enhance theoretical and practical knowledge, and promote research dissemination through lectures and publications. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program at a U.S. or Canadian university and demonstrate a well-defined thesis direction. This funding can significantly support their academic journey.

The West Texas Hereford Association – Curly Hays Scholarship Fund, managed by the Community Foundation of Abilene, honors Curly Hays, a dedicated community figure. This scholarship supports Texas high school seniors who have exhibited livestock, with awards ranging from $500 to over $5,000. Payments are made directly to educational institutions in August and January. Preference is given to Junior Hereford Association members, helping to foster agricultural education and community engagement.

The Earl & Lela Frazier Scholarship supports students from the Milton-Freewater, Oregon area pursuing undergraduate degrees in medical fields. This scholarship emphasizes financial need and requires first-year applicants to have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5. Recipients must maintain a college GPA of 2.0 or higher to continue receiving funding. The scholarship is available for all four years of undergraduate study, with applications needed each year.

The Henry Gray Distinguished Educator Award, presented by the American Association for Anatomy, recognizes exceptional contributions in human anatomy education across various formats, including gross anatomy and embryology. This prestigious award is open to full-time or emeritus faculty who are current AAA members. Nominees must submit a nomination form along with letters of recommendation. The award includes a $2,000 travel stipend for attending the AAA Annual Meeting, supporting educators dedicated to advancing anatomical sciences.

The ASPCA's Rescue Effect Campaign Grants provide $1.8 million to support animal welfare organizations in the U.S. during a crucial adoption initiative. Eligible non-profits can receive funding based on their intake of adoptable pets and commitment to hold fee-waived adoption days. The program aims to promote responsible pet adoption and community involvement, making a significant impact on animal welfare during the months of August to October.

The Zimmer Biomet Foundation, established in 2018, supports health care professionals through fellowship funding aimed at enhancing education and clinical research. This private foundation focuses on improving community health and advancing STEM education, while also promoting diversity and inclusion. Importantly, funding decisions are made independently of any commercial interests in Zimmer Biomet's products, ensuring a commitment to quality education and patient care.

The Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, established in 1975, awards $25,000 to the best book of poetry published in the U.S. the previous year. It includes a ten-day residency at Glen Hollow, New York, and distribution to Academy of American Poets members. Eligible poets must be U.S. citizens or residents and submit original works published in the prior year. Self-published books and translations are ineligible, promoting excellence in contemporary American poetry.

The Charles A., Dhel L., and Katharine Funkhouser Memorial Scholarship provides $1,500 in renewable financial assistance to high school seniors graduating from Dayton Public Schools. Established by Jeanne Funkhouser-Reeder and her husband, Vern W. Reeder, this scholarship aims to support deserving students demonstrating financial need and academic potential. Administered by The Dayton Foundation, it encourages graduates to pursue further education at accredited colleges or universities.

The Colleen O'Toole Memorial Scholarship, established in 1992, honors Colleen O'Toole's dedication to Dayton Power and Light. It provides financial assistance to children of full-time AES Ohio employees, helping to cover tuition costs. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship not only supports educational aspirations but also commemorates a valued employee who served her community faithfully for over 25 years.

The Sue & Ken Dyer Foundation Travel Scholarship, managed by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, offers financial support of up to $2,500 for students from select schools in South Central Pennsylvania. This scholarship aims to assist juniors and seniors with travel costs for educational or service-related trips. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and submit a report detailing their travel experiences. The fund supports the foundation's mission to enhance community development and educational opportunities.

The Design-Your-Own Fellowship by Equal Justice Works allows lawyers to create personalized projects addressing critical legal needs in underserved communities. Participants collaborate with preferred organizations to develop innovative solutions while receiving substantial financial support, health benefits, and professional training. This program not only enhances access to justice but also promotes diversity within public interest careers, empowering candidates to make meaningful impacts in their chosen fields.

The Regional Public Interest Awards recognize eight outstanding law students annually for their dedication to public interest law. Selected by the Equal Justice Works National Advisory Committee, each recipient demonstrates exceptional commitment through volunteer work, internships, and clinics. Awardees receive a $250 cash prize and a commemorative plaque, celebrating their significant contributions to their communities and the legal profession.

The Rural Summer Legal Corps (RSLC) addresses the legal service gap in rural U.S. communities by placing law students in civil legal aid organizations. This initiative, in partnership with Equal Justice Works and the Legal Services Corporation, allows 50 Student Fellows to engage in impactful projects, such as disaster response and housing issues, while gaining practical experience over eight to ten weeks. Participants receive a stipend of $7,000, enhancing their skills and supporting underserved populations.

The Infinite Hero Foundation Grant Program supports military personnel and their families by funding innovative treatment programs for service-related injuries. Since 2012, it has awarded over $5.7 million to 51 organizations focused on physical rehabilitation, mental health, leadership development, family support, and suicide prevention. Grants up to $100,000 are available for programs that align with the foundation's mission, ensuring that funds directly support program costs and not administrative expenses.

Incyte Corporation offers an Independent Medical Education Grant to support innovative educational initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes. This funding is available to organizations committed to delivering evidence-based education to healthcare professionals. Eligible activities may include live symposia, grand rounds, fellowships, and web-based programs. Organizations must enter into a written agreement with Incyte to receive funding. Note that new request submissions will be temporarily unavailable from November 21, 2025, to January 2026.

The James P Geiss And Margaret Y Hsu Foundation offers subvention awards to support not-for-profit academic presses in publishing books that align with its mission. Awards range from $5,000 to $7,500, with the possibility of exceeding this for projects requiring additional resources. Eligible applicants include publishers with not-for-profit tax status. The Foundation prioritizes applications that support first-time authors and enhance publications with visual elements like maps or illustrations.

The General Montgomery (Monty) C. Meigs Scholarship, offered by the Folded Flag Foundation, honors individuals who embody Monty Meigs' exceptional leadership and dedication. This scholarship is available to high school and college students who display academic excellence and commitment to service. Applicants must submit academic records, a recommendation letter, and a personal essay. Designed to support the next generation of leaders, this scholarship reflects Monty's legacy of service and achievement.

The Folded Flag Foundation offers educational scholarships for college-bound spouses and children of U.S. military members and government employees who died due to combat-related incidents. This program supports tuition, fees, and living expenses for eligible applicants under 26 years old. It aims to assist families in achieving educational goals while navigating the challenges of loss. The scholarships cover various educational expenses, ensuring access to both college and technical training opportunities.

The Sergeant Felix M. DelGreco, Jr. Scholarship, established by the Connecticut Community Foundation, supports students who are children of current CT Army National Guard members. As one of the largest scholarship providers in the Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills region, the Foundation aims to help students achieve their educational dreams through generous donor contributions. This initiative reflects a commitment to fostering educational opportunities and supporting military families within the community.

The Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Scholarship, established by the Connecticut Community Foundation, supports college-bound students from Roxbury, offering a $2000 award. This scholarship prioritizes current or former members of the Roxbury Fire Department and their descendants, promoting educational opportunities for those committed to serving their community. With a legacy dating back to 1923, the Foundation plays a vital role in enhancing the educational landscape in the Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills region.

The Persbacker Family Fund Scholarship, established by the Connecticut Community Foundation, is dedicated to residents of Bridgewater who have volunteered significantly in their community for over six years. This scholarship aims to support local students in achieving their college education dreams. With awards starting at $2,500, the foundation continues its legacy of fostering educational opportunities for deserving students in the Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills region.

The Carl J. Niedzial Memorial Scholarship, established by the Connecticut Community Foundation in 1923, supports members of the CT State Police Credit Union and their immediate families, including grandchildren. As one of the largest scholarship providers in the Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills region, the foundation aims to help students achieve their college education dreams by addressing critical community issues and fostering equitable outcomes.

The Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Project Grant offers Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) the chance to pursue innovative research projects without the need for preliminary data. Established in 2020, this grant encourages a significant shift in research direction, focusing on unique methodologies and approaches relevant to NIH's mission. Applicants must provide a detailed description of their proposed research direction, which should differ from their past work, and demonstrate its alignment with NIH Institutes' programmatic interests.
