Over time the focus has shifted to helping small to mid-size organizations in our local communities which support children and seniors in a variety of effective ways. 

Markoly Foundation was established in honor of Joseph G. Markoly, an entrepreneur and philanthropist who wanted to make a positive impact in people’s lives. Joseph’s family was affected directly by both Alzheimer’s and heart disease having lost a family member to each condition. For that reason, the foundation dedicates a majority of their resources to providing grants to organizations that focus on the treatment of each of these diseases. In addition, Markoly Foundation supports a variety of programs dedicated to helping children and seniors by providing services, supplies, programs and research in areas impacting these demographics.

From providing vision services for school kids to classes on parenting, we are proud to do our part to help fund critical community programs for families.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) aims to allocate $9 million through three cooperative agreements to enhance child welfare and online safety globally. This initiative, aligned with First Lady Melania Trump's Fostering the Future Together Coalition, seeks to improve access to quality education for at-risk youth, provide safe apprenticeship opportunities, and develop online safety protocols while engaging local governments and private sectors to combat child labor and exploitation.

The Pediatric Disaster Care Centers of Excellence Program aims to enhance the nation's readiness for pediatric care during disasters. It focuses on developing coordinated care capabilities, strengthening preparedness plans, and increasing statewide medical surge capacity for children. By funding four Centers of Excellence, the initiative seeks to improve healthcare professionals' competency through standardized training and enhance situational awareness regarding pediatric disaster care. The Bible, as the written word that witnesses to the Living Word, is our guide for faith and practice. We bring the best of biblical scholarship to bear upon our understanding of scripture, prayerfully seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our interpretation.

We are a faith community in the Presbyterian tradition.

Our theology is Christian in its commitment to the God of Jesus and reformed in its commitment to salvation by grace and a call to grateful obedience in all of life. The way we govern ourselves is representative. We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA. The great ends of the church as defined by the denomination’s Book of Order (1) guide the church’s programs and mission. We seek to serve our denomination and tradition primarily through the building of our congregation as a community of faith. Our witness is to the whole of the Gospel; therefore, we do not traditionally identify with any special interest organizations within the church.

Grants and Special Offerings

Beyond our normal budgeted support of agencies ministering to the vulnerable in our community, Second Presbyterian Church provides avenues for additional funding for agencies serving those in need in our community through specific grants, funds, and special offerings. Donations to these funds are always welcome.

Mountain Avenue Fund

The Mountain Avenue Fund was established in 2018 with the objective of supporting local agencies dealing with issues of hunger, homelessness, poverty, and at-risk children.

The Street Outreach Program (SOP) offers vital street-based services to runaway and homeless youth at risk of sexual abuse and trafficking. By focusing on areas where these youths gather, the program aims to empower them with healthy choices, access to shelter, food, hygiene supplies, and information on available services, ultimately promoting their safety and well-being. Funded by the US Department of Health & Human Services, this initiative plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable populations.

The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Communities of Practice (COP) initiative aims to establish six cooperative agreements over three years, providing tailored training and technical assistance to CSBG-funded states, tribes, and associations. These CoPs will focus on scalable, evidence-informed interventions to enhance economic mobility for low-income families, addressing barriers in areas like education, employment, and housing. The initiative promotes data-driven strategies and partnerships to improve service delivery and compliance, ensuring effective resource utilization across the network.

Entergy’s Open Grants Program aims to enhance community well-being through funding initiatives in arts, education, social services, and community improvement. The program prioritizes support for organizations that serve diverse populations, including children and low-income communities. Eligible entities must have 501(c)(3) status or equivalent nonprofit recognition. Applications should be submitted three months in advance, allowing ample time for review. Entergy focuses on projects that foster self-sufficiency and enrich local neighborhoods.

The THRIVE Grants program, formerly known as Community Grants, offers funding of up to $10,000 to support initiatives that promote economic mobility for low-income individuals in York County. Managed by the York County Community Foundation, these grants prioritize career development, child and youth development, health, housing, and transportation. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and government agencies dedicated to transforming lives and communities through impactful programs.

The Dermody Properties Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing community well-being through support for the arts, education, and families, particularly children and the elderly. Established in 1988, the foundation has provided over $3.65 million in donations to various nonprofits, including grants and scholarships. Eligible organizations must have IRS 501(c)(3) status and be located within 30 miles of Dermody's projects. Grants typically range from $500 to $3,000, reflecting a commitment to corporate philanthropy.

The Detwiler Family Foundation Grant aims to enhance the lives of children in local communities through support for educational and artistic programs. The foundation focuses on assisting children facing life challenges, including those experiencing food insecurity, mental health needs, and disabilities. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations in specific U.S. regions, prioritizing projects that foster community growth and empowerment. This initiative exemplifies a commitment to enriching children's well-being and ensuring access to vital resources.

Bucks Innovative and Improvement Grants (BIIG) offer $10,000 to $15,000 to innovative projects enhancing the lives of children, youth, and families in Bucks County, PA. Applicants must demonstrate measurable outcomes and report progress after six and twelve months. The grant cycle includes applications due in October and April, with pre-grant meetings scheduled after letter of inquiry submissions. Only nonprofit organizations focused on special needs are eligible, ensuring that funds support impactful community initiatives.
