UWNCI Community Impact Grants

For 100 years, United Way of North Central Iowa has raised funding and fostered community and agency partnerships in the north-central Iowa region. While the United Way has always raised money for good causes, our focus has sharpened to impact communities by advancing the common good in education, income, and health. Our goal is to fund programs that help us advance the common good in our impact areas and further our mission of affecting systemic change in our community. We want to ensure that the programs we fund will provide measurable outcomes in our impact area that will demonstrate to United Way donors and the north Iowa region, our shared commitment to fostering positive changes in our community. When filling out the application for funding, we ask applicants to keep in mind our core impact areas and how their programs best address issues under one of the three impact areas.

United Way of North Central Iowa Small Grants can be used for projects such as planning, training and/or development, organizational capacity building, including strategic planning, governance, and other types of organizational planning and/or development activities; community and/or human service work, and innovative solutions to local issues.

The GCRCF Endowment Challenge Grant empowers nonprofit organizations in Linn County, Iowa, to strengthen their endowments through matching funds of up to $25,000. Mission of the Guthrie County Community Foundation:

The mission of the Guthrie County Community Foundation is to foster giving, strengthen service providers, and improve the local conditions and quality of life. To these ends, the Guthrie County Community Foundation promotes philanthropy, endowment building, community-building, capacity-building, grant making, organizational collaborations, and public leadership for the benefit of Guthrie County, Iowa.

The Guthrie County Community Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life throughout Guthrie County by investing in area nonprofits through our grant programs and by providing individuals, families and area businesses who love our communities with a way to give back.

Grants are available to 501(c)3 organizations and government entities serving Guthrie County. Grant selections are made in an effort to create a better quality of life for people in Guthrie County. The local governing committee reviews the applications from charitable organizations serving their community.

Warren County Philanthropic Partnership was formed as a community foundation to distribute Iowa’s County Endowment Fund money and support charitable giving in Warren County, Iowa.

For more than a decade, the foundation has responsibly distributed charitable dollars through grants to community nonprofit organizations. Since our inception, we have awarded more than $1 million into the community for beneficial projects.  As we move into the future, our goal is to continue grantmaking, but also to assist citizens in their charitable giving plans, work closely with city leaders and other organizations for organizational collaboration, and improve the quality of life in Warren County.

WCPP is an Affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and is governed by a Board of Directors under the direction of Warren County Economic Development Corporation, made up of passionate individuals invested in making decisions to improve Warren County.

High Impact Grant

For High Impact Grants, we are looking for applications which:

• Are for larger investment projects that benefit multiple communities and a larger percentage of the citizenship of the entire county.
• Address a significant community issue or need, especially a need effecting the entire county.
• Demonstrates considerable impact on the county, such as a project that could increase the marketability of the county, has an effect on tourism or on economic development for the entire county.
• Presents an innovative or creative way to strengthen the county with vision toward future growth and development.
• Encourages cooperation and partnerships, and reduces duplication of services among organizations.

The Old National Bank Foundation offers grants to nonprofit organizations for community impact initiatives across Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Focused on four key areas—Affordable Housing, Workforce Development, Economic Development, and Financial Empowerment—the foundation prioritizes programs that support underrepresented communities. Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status and align with the foundation’s funding priorities to qualify for grants, which can be applied for every two years.

The Ida County Community Betterment Foundation Grant, administered by the Siouxland Community Foundation, aims to enhance the quality of life in Ida County, Iowa. The grant supports nonprofit organizations, local government units, and educational institutions addressing community needs in areas such as health, education, arts, and human services. Prioritizing sustainable projects, the grant encourages collaboration and innovative solutions while excluding requests for general operating expenses and political activities.

Trails Grant

Awarded to a project specifically benefitting a recreational walking or cycling trail or the entire trail system located within Warren County. For Trails Grants, preference will be given to:

• Projects going toward the maintenance and improvement of trails due to damage or aging.
• Projects improving the safety, use and accessibility of the trails.
• Although priority is given toward maintenance and improvement, we may also consider projects which lead to the beautification and aesthetic appeal of the trails, as well as projects providing something missing from the trail such as benches or drinking fountains.
• May be awarded to the county, county entities or organizations which support trails or to a city where a trail is located. 

The Community Foundation of Lyon County Grant aims to enhance the quality of life in Lyon County by addressing community needs through charitable grants. It supports nonprofit organizations and local governments in areas such as arts, education, health, and human services. The foundation prioritizes projects with long-term impact and sustainability. The O’Brien County Community Foundation Grant supports charitable purposes through grants to nonprofit organizations and local government units serving O’Brien County, Iowa. Categories include Caring for People, Caring through Food, Community, and Caring for our Planet, with a focus on educational initiatives, food security, housing services, and environmental stewardship, honoring the legacy of founder S. Truett Cathy.
