The Tobacco Prevention & Cessation RFA aims to support community-driven initiatives that promote tobacco-free lifestyles in South Dakota. With a focus on collaboration among local organizations, this funding opportunity seeks to implement strategies outlined in the SD-TCP State Plan, which emphasizes long-term changes to reduce tobacco-related health issues. By fostering partnerships and investing in impactful projects, the RFA is dedicated to decreasing the prevalence of tobacco use and its associated harms in the state.

Sexual Abuse Services Program (SASP)

Funds are awarded by the US Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. Congress appropriates the funds annually. Funds are awarded to support the establishment, maintenance and expansion of sexual assault services including providing intervention, advocacy, accompaniment (e.g., accompanying victims to court, medical facilities, police departments, etc.), support services and related assistance for adult, youth and child victims of sexual assault, family and household members of victims, and those collaterally affected by the sexual assault.

The NIOSH Miner Safety and Health Training Program aims to enhance health and safety training for miners in the Western United States. With mining fatalities significantly higher than the national average, this initiative seeks to address critical training needs by developing effective programs, increasing qualified instructors, and ensuring compliance with existing safety guidelines. By focusing on culturally appropriate training methods and collaborative efforts with other agencies, the program aims to reduce injuries and fatalities in the mining sector.

Arbor Rising Grant, established in 2010, is a NYC-based nonprofit providing unrestricted multi-year funding and capacity-building support to nonprofits focused on alleviating poverty. The grant process occurs every three years, with the next round in 2025 being invitation-only. Eligible organizations must demonstrate high potential and effective leadership, typically operating on a modest budget. Arbor Rising prioritizes applicants from the NYC metro area while expanding to cover the lower 48 US states.

Humane Organization Grant Program 

Mission

To enhance the quality of life of shelter/ rescue animals and to increase their chances for adoption. 

The St. Croix Valley Foundation (SCVF) Humane Organization grant program funded by the Compassionate Animal Fund, is accepting applications (invitation only) from Managed Open Admission humane organizations located in the upper Midwest. The grants, ranging up to $3,000, can cover items on your “wish list” including food, supplies, infrastructure needs, and veterinary cost. 

Funding Criteria

Grants are intended to provide funds for items such as food, supplies, medicine, spay/neuter programs (for in-house animals to aid in adoption) newsletters, or other needs and/or programs that most benefit the humane organization.

​We understand that shelters may differ in the services or alternatives they offer during the waiting period prior to intake. If your facility is at capacity, you must provide a clear statement outlining how emergency surrenders and stray animals are handled, including the procedures your organization follows to operate as an Open Admission shelter.  

Violence Against Women Act (STOP VAWA)

Funds are awarded by the US Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. Congress appropriates the funds annually. Funds are awarded to develop and implement effective law enforcement and prosecution strategies to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking; and to develop and enhance victim services for cases involving domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking through court advocacy and other core services. Funds are also awarded to support services provided to underserved populations.

Community Finance Initiative

The Citi Foundation’s 2026 Community Finance Initiative commits $35 million to support programming that bolsters the financial stability, strength and safety of low-income households in the U.S.

Focus Areas

The Foundation seeks to support organizations advancing low-income household financial resilience in the United States across three focus areas:

Stabilize: Programs that help low-income households to build financial skills and confidence to manage daily finances and navigate financial stress.

• Financial coaching on budgeting, credit, debt reduction and savings strategies.
• Digital tools offering personalized financial guidance and product navigation.
• Assistance with public benefits and social safety net programs.

Strengthen: Programs that help low-income households build and repair credit, as well as short- and long-term financial assets.

• Financial products or services for credit building and credit repair.
• Initiatives to increase savings, including emergency funds.
• Support for homeownership, including readiness, preservation and long-term stability (e.g., first-time buyer assistance, preventing displacement and support systems for aging in place resources).

Safeguard: Programs that protect low-income household financial security by preventing and addressing financial losses.

• Education and support for the safe and confident use of digital financial tools.
• Fraud and scam awareness, prevention and recovery initiatives, including protection from identity theft.
• Interventions to help households recover from major financial shocks (e.g., healthcare costs, extended family care, job transitions or natural disasters).

Funding Opportunity

The Foundation plans to award 70 $500,000 (USD) grants (to be disbursed over two years) totaling $35 million to community organizations working in select communities where Citi has a presence.

The grants will be restricted and are anticipated to be disbursed in two annual payments in 2026 and 2027. Proposed projects should be for a term of 24 months, starting no sooner than August 1, 2026 and ending no later than December 31, 2028.

The Community Possible Grant Program by U.S. Bank aims to foster economic and workforce advancement, as well as safe and affordable housing. By partnering with 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, the program seeks to drive lasting change within communities through collaborative grantmaking. Priority is given to organizations that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and that address multiple pillars of work, home, and play. This initiative reflects U.S. Bank's commitment to creating a more equitable society.

The Beyond Idea Grants, offered by the South Dakota Community Foundation, aim to support community-based problem solving by providing up to $1.2 million annually to eligible nonprofits. These grants encourage innovative projects that engage and invest in South Dakota communities. They prioritize thoughtful project plans and require applicants to demonstrate capacity for effective execution. The program seeks to empower local leaders while promoting equitable change, ensuring that all projects have community support and are aligned with the Foundation's values.

The Drinking Water Project Funding, offered by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources, provides essential financial support for improving drinking water infrastructure. Grants and low-interest loans are available for projects included in the State Water Plan, with applications considered quarterly. This funding ensures compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act, enabling communities to enhance their water quality and infrastructure, thereby safeguarding public health across South Dakota.

The Patterson Foundation offers Assistance Dog Program Grants to support organizations providing service animals to veterans and individuals with disabilities. Funding is available for projects that expand capacity, personnel costs related to puppy training, and program support aimed at improving client experiences. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) non-profits and can request grants up to $35,000 for capital projects or $10,000 for program support. Applications are accepted through a two-step process.

The Bush Prize: South Dakota recognizes organizations that excel in community problem-solving and are valued by their communities. Grants can be up to $500,000, covering 25% of an organization's recent fiscal expenses. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) public charities and government entities, with a focus on local innovations. This initiative, a collaboration between the Bush Foundation and South Dakota Community Foundation, aims to support impactful community projects while fostering flexibility in funding.

The Disaster Resilience Program, supported by Equal Justice Works, aims to provide free civil legal aid to communities affected by disasters in the Midwest. With funding for attorney and summer law student fellows, the program addresses the unique legal needs of low-income families, helping them recover from the impacts of disasters. This initiative not only stabilizes lives but also promotes resilience in communities by ensuring access to essential legal services.

The Rural Business Development Grants in South Dakota provide vital technical assistance and training to small rural businesses with fewer than 50 employees and under $1 million in gross revenue. The program prioritizes smaller funding requests and offers two types of grants—Opportunity and Enterprise. Funds can support a variety of projects including training, land acquisition, pollution control, and community economic development, thereby fostering growth in rural areas and enhancing local economies.

The Conservation Partners Grant Program, funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, supports private landowners in implementing regenerative agriculture and conservation practices. By awarding competitive grants, the program facilitates technical assistance for developing management plans and best practices, enabling landowners to maximize the ecological benefits of their lands. This initiative is crucial for enhancing fish and wildlife habitats, addressing pressing conservation issues, and promoting sustainable land stewardship across the United States.

The Community Forestry Grant (SD) aims to enhance urban tree cover and forest maintenance through educational programs, financial assistance, and technical support. Awarded by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources, grants up to $5,000 are available for local governments and eligible nonprofits. This initiative promotes awareness of tree benefits, encourages sustainable practices, and implements tree planting programs to improve air quality and combat climate change.

Rape Prevention Education Grant

Sexual violence is any sexual activity where consent is not freely given. Sexual violence affects millions of people each year in the United States and can lead to serious health consequences, including mental health conditions, injury, and chronic physical health problems.

The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS, 2016–2017) reports:

• More than 1 in 2 women (over 54%) and nearly 1 in 3 men (about 31%) have experienced contact sexual violence—including rape, being made to penetrate someone, sexual coercion, or unwanted sexual contact—at some point in their lives.
• Nearly 1 in 4 women (about 27%) have experienced completed or attempted rape in their lifetimes.
• About 1 in 26 men (3.8%) have experienced completed or attempted rape, and more than 1 in 10 men (10.7%) have been made to penetrate someone during their lifetime.

The South Dakota Rape Prevention Education (RPE) program is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This funding is authorized through the Violence Against Women Act.

The goal of the RPE program is to strengthen sexual violence prevention efforts by focusing on primary prevention: preventing sexual violence before it occurs. It operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and six U.S. territories. The CDC provides tools, training, and technical assistance to the RPE program to prevent sexual violence, reduce risk factors, enhance protective factors, promote best practices, analyze data and evaluate prevention efforts.

With the RPE program, South Dakota hopes to lower sexual violence rates against everyone, but especially the target audiences of children, teens, young adults, and Native Americans.

Hour of Hope Grants

Hour of Hope provides grants to religious organizations located in South Dakota that provide media contact with those who are either unable or choose not to participate in regular congregation worship activities.

The Express Health Information Outreach Awards aim to enhance public health by increasing access to biomedical information for U.S. health professionals and the general public. These awards support projects that improve health information literacy among consumers and caregivers, ensuring they can effectively find and utilize health information. Focused on partnerships and outreach to underrepresented communities, the initiative seeks to promote healthy behaviors, prevent illness, and improve health outcomes through informed decision-making.

The Patterson Foundation offers Oral Health Grants to support programs that enhance access to dental care for underserved communities. Eligible 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations can apply for funding up to $35,000 for capacity expansion, $10,000 for personnel support, or $10,000 for program support. The foundation prioritizes projects led by volunteer dental professionals and requires follow-up reports for continued funding. Applications are accepted year-round through a two-step process.

Eligible rural healthcare facilities in South Dakota can apply for incentive funding to help recruit and retain full-time licensed or certified health professionals. Grants from South Dakota Department of Health provide a US $10,000 payment for professionals completing a three-year service commitment in communities of 10,000 or fewer residents, with cost-sharing based on community size.

Rob-See-Co Library Grant

In recognition of National Library Day, Rob-See-Co, an independent seed company located in Elkhorn, Neb. is proud to announce the continuation of its Rural Library Grant program.

Originally launched in 2023 to commemorate the company’s 10th anniversary and honor Agnes Robinson’s dedication to the rural library in Waterloo, NE, the program continues to hold special meaning. Agnes, great-grandmother of Jim Robinson, CEO of Rob-See-Co, was a passionate advocate for rural libraries. Today, the program extends support to libraries across rural communities within the company’s footprint. 

The focus areas for grant distributions from the Rob-See-Co Rural Library Grant program will assist local libraries with expanding book collections, core educational programs for adults or children, and computer or software upgrades. Examples of this would be new books, expansion of school visits or field trips, digitizing research materials, support for funding traveling exhibits and speakers.

Rob-See-Co will award ten grants to selected rural libraries across CO, IA, KS, MD, MI, MN, ND, NE, OH, OK, PA, SD, TX and WI. Funds may be used for core educational, preservation and interpretive purposes, including collection development, facility improvements, traveling exhibits, guest speakers, staff training, programming, and publications. 

Public bodies, community-based nonprofits, and Federally Recognized Tribes in rural South Dakota can fund essential community facilities, equipment, and related project costs through this program. Grants from USDA: Rural Development help eligible rural communities develop health care, public safety, community support, and other critical facilities, with support scaled to population size and local median household income.
