Andrew J. Shields Memorial Scholarship

The Andrew Jon Shields Memorial Scholarship was established by Jon and Carol Shields in memory of their son, Andrew Jon Shields, an Airborne Combat Medic who dedicated his life to the health, safety, and welfare of his fellow service members. Raised in the Vancouver, Washington area, Andrew was a graduate of Battle Ground High School, where he was active in football and served as Fire District 11 Fire Cadet Chief. He joined the U.S. Army in 2007 and completed training as a combat medic and paratrooper before being deployed to Afghanistan with the 173rd Special Troop Battalion (Airborne). Andrew was killed in action on May 31, 2008, while serving in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. The scholarship honors Andrew’s legacy of service, honor, and compassion and is intended to recognize individuals who reflect these values in their own lives. This scholarship is not renewable.

David J. DiCesare Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship provides awards ranging from $1,500 to $2,000 and is renewable, with renewal applicants required to reapply annually alongside new applicants.

Patricia Schroder Memorial Scholarship

Pat had a big heart for helping others and devoted her life to assisting, teaching, and coaching students with disabilities. She worked as a special education teacher's assistant at various schools across the Evergreen School District after earning her Masters, she moved to White Salmon, Washington, where she taught at Columbia High School. In 1994, she moved back to Vancouver and accepted a teaching position at Camas High School where she taught social studies and special education. She retired in 2010 after more than 16 years with the Camas School District.

Pat had a big heart for helping others. She loved and took interest in many of her students throughout her teaching career. She was also actively involved in Special Olympics as a coach and volunteer in addition to providing temporary respite care relief for families of children with special needs.

Additionally, Pat developed a passion for politics at an early age when she first served as a government page at the Washington State Capitol during her senior year in high school. She became an active member in Washington State Democrats, where she attended state democratic caucuses and managed senatorial and legislative campaigns. She also successfully spearheaded the passage of levy and bond election campaigns to support educational programs in the Evergreen School District. Her love for politics later resulted in her running and being elected as Mayor of the city of White Salmon in 1992, where she held the post for two years. Pat enjoyed visiting Frisco, Texas to spend time with her family whenever she could.

Award Amount

2 scholarships are awarded each year. Awards will likely be between $1,000-$1,400.

The True Inspiration Awards, established by Chick-fil-A in 2015, recognizes nonprofit organizations that significantly impact their communities. In 2025, the program will distribute $6 million in grants, ranging from $30,000 to $350,000, to sixteen selected organizations. Categories include Caring for People, Caring through Food, Community, and Caring for our Planet, with a focus on educational initiatives, food security, housing services, and environmental stewardship, honoring the legacy of founder S. Truett Cathy.

The WSOS Graduate Scholarship (GRD) is designed to support Washington students pursuing careers in high-demand nursing specialties, including Adult-Gerontology and Family Nurse Practitioner roles. Offering up to $25,000 over three years, this scholarship covers tuition, fees, and living expenses. It emphasizes serving medically underserved areas, ensuring that recipients commit to practicing in these communities post-graduation. WSOS aims to enhance the local healthcare workforce while addressing financial needs and educational access for diverse populations.

Ameriprise Community Grants focus on supporting nonprofits that enhance community vitality and meet basic needs. With over 120 years of commitment to philanthropy, Ameriprise Financial engages employees in volunteerism and grantmaking. Key giving areas include hunger relief, housing stability, and community development. Priority is given to organizations with active volunteer engagement from Ameriprise advisors and employees, creating a meaningful impact on financial independence and community resilience.

The Cowles Charitable Trust Grant supports initiatives aligned with the philanthropic legacy of Gardner Cowles, Jr. Focused on education, social justice, health, and the arts, it favors organizations recognized as 501(c)(3) by the IRS. The Trust encourages applications for general operating support and seeks partnerships rather than being the sole funder. Notably, it considers applications from established partners and supports efforts in Downstate New York and South Florida, with a preference for diverse funding sources.

“I Have A Dream” Scholarship in Honor of Mary and Dick Granger

This scholarship was created to honor Mary Granger, Founder of "I Have a Dream" Southwest Washington and the success of the program. Mary and her husband, Dick Granger, along with several other individual donors sponsored four Dreamer Classes in the Vancouver Public Schools. The Dreamer Classes were adopted at the following elementary schools: Washington (1995), Hough (1997), Harney (1999), and Martin Luther King (2001). Of over 300 "Dreamer" students, 90% graduated high school on-time after participating in the long term academic enrichment and mentoring program. This scholarship is renewable. Renewal applicants will have special consideration or priority, if they show good standing at their institution and continuing financial need. Award amounts may vary each year. 

The J.W. Couch Foundation Grant focuses on supporting Wildlife Conservation nonprofit organizations that align with their mission of community betterment and environmental protection. The foundation seeks partnerships with organizations that promote animal wellbeing, early childhood education, teacher support, and outdoor activities. Eligible applicants must be registered 501(c)3 nonprofits or for-profit entities aligned with their charitable programs. This grant emphasizes collaboration and community engagement to create lasting impacts.

The Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation Grant supports nonprofit charitable organizations recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Revenue Code. Established in 2002, the foundation aims to empower groups committed to positive change, fostering respect for life and the environment. Their vision emphasizes collaboration for a better future, encouraging applicants to embody these values in their initiatives. With a focus on impactful projects, this grant is an opportunity for organizations striving to make a critical difference in our world.

The TJX Foundation Grants support nonprofit organizations located within 15 miles of a TJX store that align with their community mission. Eligible areas include basic needs, education for at-risk youth, workforce training, and safety from domestic violence. Organizations must be a registered 501(c)(3) for at least 12 months and have a nondiscrimination policy. Applications are invited through a Letter of Inquiry, with funding decisions based on community impact.

The Dr. Scholl Foundation offers grants annually to IRS 501(c)(3) organizations, primarily focusing on U.S. applicants. The foundation supports projects in education, social services, healthcare, civic and cultural initiatives, and environmental efforts. While the grant cycle runs from October 1 to March 1, it encourages innovative solutions to global challenges. Only one application per organization is accepted each year, and funding is limited to one year. Unqualified organizations, including political entities, are ineligible.
