The Pittsburgh Foundation

Established in 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the nation’s oldest community foundations and as of 2022 is the 18th largest of more than 750 similar foundations across the United States.

As a community foundation, its resources comprise endowment funds established by individuals, businesses and organizations with a passion for charitable giving and fulfilling the Foundation’s mission of improving quality of life for all in the region. The Foundation currently manages about 2,500 individual donor funds and, together with its supporting organizations and its affiliate, The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, has assets of $1.386 billion (2022). Grantmaking benefits a broad spectrum of basic needs and development opportunities within Pittsburgh and beyond.

Scholarships

The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County provide scholarship opportunities for local students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities and career/technical schools.

Eugenio R. Ricci and Rose DeNapoli Scholarship Fund

The Eugenio R. Ricci and Rose DeNapoli Scholarship Fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships for individuals seeking to complete their education or begin their educational journey with extended study. This scholarship is established in loving memory of Eugenio and Rose, both of whom valued training and education and saw education as a necessity, not an expense.

Award Type: Single Year. Previous recipients are encouraged to re-apply in consecutive years.

The Sally P. and Glenn L. Ramsdell Scholarship Fund, managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports students pursuing degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. Open to full-time students, including high school seniors and graduate students, this renewable scholarship offers funding for tuition, fees, and books for up to three years. Applicants must demonstrate academic promise and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. This initiative aims to foster educational advancement and community enrichment.

The Rapier Education Fund, managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports high school seniors and college students pursuing degrees in the USA. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be enrolled full-time. The fund covers tuition, fees, and books, and is renewable for up to three years. Since 1964, the foundation has awarded millions in grants to enhance community living through education and other initiatives, making a lasting impact on the San Antonio area.

The Animal Food Regulatory Program Standards Implementation Development and Maintenance initiative aims to enhance the national animal food safety system. This funding opportunity supports state regulatory programs in achieving and sustaining the Animal Food Regulatory Program Standards (AFRPS) within five years. By fostering collaboration with the FDA and standardizing regulatory processes, this initiative seeks to improve food safety, promote compliance, and mitigate foodborne illnesses, ultimately creating a more integrated food safety framework.

The J.J. Crosetti, Jr. Memorial Scholarship offers a $1,500 award to students majoring in agriculture. To qualify, applicants must either reside in Santa Cruz County or be members of the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau. The scholarship is awarded upon proof of college enrollment, making it an excellent opportunity for aspiring agricultural professionals to receive financial support for their education.

The Gray Lady Foundation Grant aims to enhance canine health, particularly for Miniature Schnauzers, by funding research in genetics and diseases. Applications are accepted twice a year, with deadlines on April 1 and October 1, and grants are awarded on October 31 and April 30, respectively. The foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations that focus on improving the quality of life and responsible breeding of canines, ensuring sustainable health initiatives.

Founded in 1996, the Community Foundation of South Georgia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to making South Georgia a better place to live through effective philanthropy. We help individuals, families, nonprofit organizations and businesses establish and manage charitable funds that carry out their philanthropic interests. Serving a geographic area of 35 counties in South Georgia, we facilitate our donors’ charitable plans and goals by creating custom designed funds that meet their specific interests and ensure solid financial management and administration for each fund. 

Geraldine Grant Memorial Scholarship

The award is based on Academics, Leadership Qualities, Extracurricular School Activities, Community Service and Financial Need. Special consideration will be given to applicants from an underrepresented minority population as well as applicants who intend to major in Business, Accounting, Finance, Management or another business-related field of study. 

Community Foundation for Mason County, MI

Robert J. and Norma E. Bazzett Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Robert J. and Norma E. Bazzett, who established the Robert J. and Norma E. Bazzett Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Mason County.

Robert, a 1959 graduate of Ludington High School, said he always had the idea in the back of his mind to establish a scholarship fund for the “average” student. “I always felt there was a need for that,” Robert said, “because there are a lot of kids like me that were just average C students in high school. We were cut out of the scholarship picture because our grades weren’t good enough, but that didn’t mean we were not worthy of a scholarship.”

The Tom Woodward Memorial Visual Arts Scholarship

The Tom Woodward Memorial Visual Arts Scholarship benefits students pursuing postgraduate studies at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or trade school. Art is not a required major for eligible applicants. This scholarship is renewable.

Application Requirements:

The Vaccinated & Loved Campaign Grant, offered by Petco Love, supports organizations that provide free vaccine services to communities in need. Eligible applicants include 501c3 nonprofits, government agencies, and invited for-profit companies with a nonprofit purpose related to animal welfare. However, individuals and organizations outside the U.S. or not focused on animal welfare are ineligible for funding. This initiative aims to enhance public health and animal welfare through vaccination efforts.

The Encantado Foundation Impact Grant aims to enhance the development of hire-ready candidates in STEM fields across Northern and Central New Mexico. This initiative focuses on empowering underrepresented communities by providing resources to nonprofit organizations that successfully create job opportunities, offer professional development programs, and engage with diverse populations. By supporting impactful projects in cyber security, application development, and IT operations, the grant seeks to reshape the local workforce landscape.

The Knights Templar Eye Foundation Career-Starter Research Grant provides up to $90,000 to support the early careers of researchers focused on preventing and curing blinding diseases in children. Eligible candidates must hold an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree. Research areas include amblyopia, congenital cataract, glaucoma, and other hereditary eye diseases. This funding aims to foster innovative solutions in pediatric ophthalmology, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for infants and children.

The ILA Exemplary Reading Program Award, presented by the International Literacy Association, recognizes exceptional reading and language arts programs across all grade levels in Canada and the United States. This award aims to highlight outstanding educational efforts that promote literacy improvement and excellence among school staff. Eligible programs must submit comprehensive applications showcasing their entire reading initiatives, serving as models for others. Winning schools gain recognition while contributing to the advancement of literacy education.

Scholarships for High School Seniors

Mid-Shore Community Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties, who are planning to attend a college, university, or trade school. In general, scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement, community service, financial need, and other criteria specified by the donor.

Kate Elliott Shannahan Trades Scholarship

Awarded to students graduating from Talbot County Public Schools, who are planning to attend a vocational, trade, or career school.

The PVA Education Foundation Grant Program, offered by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, supports innovative projects aimed at improving the lives of individuals with spinal cord injury and disease (SCI/D). Grants of up to $75,000 are available for initiatives in consumer education, professional development for healthcare providers, and research translation. This funding enables the development of essential educational tools and resources to enhance health, independence, and quality of life for the SCI/D community.

The Campership Grant, offered by the Colburn-Keenan Foundation, aims to support children affected by chronic inherited bleeding disorders by providing up to $500 for camp attendance. This initiative is designed to help families send their children to specialized camps, fostering community and support. Eligible applicants include children under 18 with chronic illnesses and those whose siblings or parents are affected. The program emphasizes the importance of community engagement and aims to alleviate financial burdens for families.

The Camp Equipment & Capital Improvement Grant Program, established by the Colburn-Keenan Foundation, aims to enhance the experiences of children with chronic inherited bleeding disorders. This initiative provides funding to camps for acquiring new equipment or improving facilities, emphasizing the importance of a supportive environment for these children. Eligible camps must serve at least 25% of participants affected by such disorders, ensuring that the assistance directly impacts those in need.

The John R. Stempka Memorial Scholarship, established by Linda Stempka and family, supports Erie County residents pursuing technical education, particularly in welding. In 2023, the Erie Community Foundation awarded over $800,000 in scholarships to empower more than 500 students in their educational endeavors. This scholarship aims to help individuals achieve their career goals and enhance their skills in the technical field, ensuring a brighter future for the community.

The USTA Wheelchair Tennis Grassroots Grant supports the growth of wheelchair tennis nationwide, having invested over $650,000 since 2008. This funding aims to enhance grassroots programs, focusing on attracting new junior players. Grants are tailored to each program's budget and needs, facilitating essential resources such as coaching, court time, and equipment. However, applications for tournament travel or multiple wheelchair purchases are discouraged, ensuring funds are used effectively to develop the sport for young athletes.

The Gainbridge Assists Powered by Parity Grant, in partnership with Parity and the Women’s Sports Foundation, supports girls and women in sports and education. In 2024, $222,000 will be awarded through 32 grants, including a $50,000 grant honoring Billie Jean King. This initiative aims to empower over 5,000 participants, fostering community transformation through sports and educational opportunities.

Armstrong County Community Foundation

The Armstrong County Community Foundation, a public nonprofit corporation,

James K. Greenbaum Scholarship

In gratitude for the many years of service that Dr. Greenbaum has given to our community, a scholarship has been established in his name to benefit a graduating student from the area who will be furthering his or her education.

The goal of the scholarship is to honor Dr. Greenbaum’s lifetime contribution to the children of our area and to continue his legacy.

The Cancer Center Support Grants (CCSGs) aim to bolster NCI-Designated Cancer Centers through funding that supports diverse research activities. These grants enhance comprehensive, clinical, and basic cancer research while fostering collaboration among institutions. The program prioritizes interdisciplinary approaches to advance cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, ultimately reducing cancer's impact on public health. CCSGs also facilitate resource sharing, administrative support, and the development of innovative research initiatives.

The Family-to-Family Health Information Centers (F2F HIC) program, funded by the US HHS: Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), aims to empower families of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN). By providing crucial information, education, and peer support, the program helps families navigate complex health systems to access necessary services, ultimately enhancing the health and well-being of CYSHCN and their families.

The Melvin Arthur Peters Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Melvin Peters, a self-taught tradesman and entrepreneur from Shawano County. This scholarship supports high school seniors pursuing education in trades, reflecting Mel's commitment to hard work and skill development. Award amounts vary based on attendance costs, with disbursement in the first semester of college. Eligibility requires enrollment as a part-time or full-time student, emphasizing Mel's values of education and practical skills.

The Delano & Aldrich/Emerson Fellowship, established by the Architects Foundation, provides a unique opportunity for a young French architect to travel and study in the U.S. for three months. With a budget of $20,000, the fellowship emphasizes contemporary issues in architecture, including sustainability and inclusive design. Candidates aged 23 to 35, holding a degree in architecture, are eligible. This program aims to foster cross-cultural understanding and inspire future architects through immersive experiences.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) seeks to enhance predoctoral and postdoctoral research training through a new funding opportunity, the T90/R90 program. This initiative aims to develop a skilled research workforce to meet the nation's biomedical and clinical research needs. Although applications are not currently being accepted, potential applicants are encouraged to form collaborations and prepare responsive projects. This program will support diverse trainees, fostering innovation in trans-disciplinary research.
