Schmidt-Yeager Scholarship

Annual scholarship created by Phillip and Elaine Schmidt to facilitate adults continuing their college education.

Award Amount

• $1,470

The Sadanand Singh Memorial Scholarship, offered by the American Academy of Audiology, provides $500 to a minority or international graduate student in audiology who demonstrates exceptional research potential. This scholarship honors Dr. Sadanand Singh, a dedicated educator and advocate for audiology, who passed away in 2010. Eligible candidates must be full-time students in good standing at a U.S. university, showcasing their promise through a resume, rubric, and personal statement.

The Jerry Northern Scholarship in Pediatric Audiology, funded by the American Academy of Audiology, offers $10,000 scholarships and $500 for travel expenses to three full-time graduate students pursuing audiology programs. To qualify, applicants must be in good standing, have completed a pediatric audiology course, and be in their second academic year. This initiative celebrates Dr. Jerry Northern's commitment to advancing pediatric audiology and supports students in their professional development.

The Empowering Students Scholarship, offered by the American Academy of Audiology Foundation, provides $5,000 to six promising audiology students. This initiative, supported by the Oticon Hearing Foundation, aims to enhance diversity by designating up to $20,000 for Black students. Applicants must be full-time graduate students in good standing at a U.S. university. The Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program addresses childhood food insecurity by partnering with schools to establish or support food pantries. More than 9 million children in the U.S. face hunger, and this initiative ensures students from pre-K through college have access to meals, so they can focus on their education rather than their hunger. Currently, new applications are not accepted from schools in Boston or NYC boroughs due to capacity issues.

The Alicia B. Meyer Education Scholarship, established by Alicia B. Meyer in 2022, supports graduates of Richmond City Public Schools and Cristo Rey Richmond. This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance for students attending accredited two or four-year colleges in the U.S. Eligible applicants must demonstrate community service, financial need, and a minimum GPA of 2.5. This initiative reflects the foundation's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and promoting academic success within the Richmond community.

Native Forward awards are allocated based on the financial aid information provided by the institution’s Financial Aid Office. Awards can vary, ranging from $100 to $30,000 per academic year.

Native Forward Scholars Fund members of federally and state-recognized Tribes as well as first and second-generation descendants. However, Native Forward Scholars Fund scholarship opportunities have different Tribal eligibility requirements and can be determined by submitting a Tribal Eligibility Certificate.

Katrin Lamon Fellowship

ASPCA Research Grants

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) research grants fund high-quality research with a clear potential to benefit animals, either directly or through effecting systems-level change. Proposals to extend existing studies, focused on other disciplines, will also be considered if they can clearly demonstrate substantial potential benefit to animal welfare.

This year we are soliciting proposals in the following six research areas:

• Access to Veterinary Care (AVC) Research

• Farm Animal Welfare Research
• Psychological Trauma Research
• Shelter Research

Proposals focused on evaluating the effectiveness of a program or service must demonstrate methodological rigor and a clear plan to produce generalizable scientific knowledge. Please view eligibility information for specific projects from the research area you are interested in. 

Psychological Trauma Research

Proposals related to developing and validating novel approaches to the objective documentation of animal cruelty and neglect in the absence of physical trauma (i.e., documenting psychological trauma) in dogs. Proposals are encouraged from any relevant discipline (e.g., physiology, psychology, ethology). Of particular interest is research that focuses on objective measures, including biomarkers and quantitative behavioral phenotyping.

The Bertha Parker Cody Award, offered by the Society for American Archaeology, supports Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian women pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in archaeology and museum studies. This scholarship fosters educational advancement and collaboration between archaeologists and Indigenous communities, promoting ethical practices and cultural preservation. Funded in part by the Autry Museum of the American West, it aims to empower diverse voices within the field of archaeology and is available annually.

The NIH grant focuses on elucidating the role of transporters in key perinatal barriers such as the placenta and blood-brain barrier. By establishing a multi-barrier transport network, the initiative aims to enhance understanding of maternal and infant health regarding nutrient and medication transport. This research will create essential resources and standards, fostering future studies on perinatal exposure and intervention strategies. Ultimately, it aims to advance knowledge in pediatric pharmacology and neurodevelopment.

The Harrison-Labouisse-Mayo Memorial Scholarship, established by Ms. Sally Harrison in 2002, provides support to students in Richmond who have faced catastrophic circumstances affecting their education. Sponsored by The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, this scholarship aims to assist high school graduates committed to academics and community involvement, who plan to enroll in accredited post-secondary institutions. It fosters resilience and hope for students striving for academic success despite challenges.

The Granger Ancarrow Scholarship offers financial support to graduating seniors from public high schools in metropolitan Richmond and the Tri-Cities area, encouraging academic excellence and community involvement. Established by The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond in 2000, this scholarship aims to assist students who demonstrate strong academic performance, financial need, and participation in track and field activities. Recipients are expected to enroll in accredited four-year colleges or universities, fostering future leaders in their communities.

The Ryan Legacy Scholarship

Melanie Ryan was an incredible mother, wife, friend, and nurse for almost 30 years. Her kindness, generosity, and compassion will be remembered forever by those who had the honor to know and love her. She passed away from Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer in June of 2024. Her husband Tom was the love of her life and also and incredibly kind and caring husband, father, manager and friend. He passed away from Hodgkins Lymphoma in November of 2022. This scholarship remembers this beautiful couple by assisting graduating high school seniors and current college students in pursuing a college degree. Preference will be given to student athletes in memory of Tom’s love of sports and students pursuing a healthcare related degree in memory of Melanie’s incredible nursing skills and heart.

The Hill Family Scholarship, established by The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, supports post-secondary education for high school graduates in the Richmond area diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. Eligible students can receive funds for educational expenses while attending accredited colleges or universities in the U.S. This initiative aims to enhance access to educational opportunities and promote academic success for deserving students within the community.

The Donald W. Colbert Scholarship, established by S&K Famous Brands in 2006, awards educational scholarships to graduating seniors from Richmond City Public Schools. Candidates must demonstrate academic promise, community service, and financial need, with preference given to those interested in retail careers or whose parents work in the retail industry. This initiative supports students pursuing further education at accredited institutions, fostering opportunities for future leaders in the Richmond community.

The Central Virginia Scholarship, established in 1993 by anonymous donors, aims to assist outstanding students in metropolitan Richmond who face financial barriers to attending their preferred private colleges. This scholarship addresses the disparity in costs between private and public universities, ensuring that deserving students can pursue their educational goals without being hindered by financial constraints. Managed by The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, this initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in the region.

The CarMax-Rick Sharp Entrepreneur Scholarship, established in 2013 by The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, honors the contributions of founder Rick Sharp. This scholarship aims to support the next generation of entrepreneurs in the Richmond area. Eligible applicants are graduating high school seniors demonstrating financial need, academic commitment, leadership skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to those planning to enroll in accredited colleges or universities.

The Becky Briggs Memorial Scholarship, established by the Western Henrico County Rotary Club, honors the memory of Becky Briggs, a promising student who tragically passed away in 1990. Dale and Tillie Jessup Scholarship

The Dale and Tillie Jessup Scholarship is intended for graduating high school seniors who have attended a Greene County high school for all four years and have been a resident of Greene County or Clay County for those four years. Applicant must be planning to major, on a full-time basis, in agriculture or an agriculture-related field. Dale and Tillie Jessup established a unique scholarship fund for Greene County high school graduating seniors. The Jessup’s donated 100 acres of farm land to the Foundation. The land is leased for farming and the proceeds are used to provide scholarships to students in financial need. Students awarded the Jessup scholarship as a graduating high school senior may re-apply in subsequent years for additional awards.

The Howard Fellowships, administered by the George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation, support early mid-career artists and scholars with $40,000 awards for independent projects in selected fields. This unrestricted, non-residency fellowship encourages significant creative development and public visibility through exhibitions or publications. Applicants should demonstrate a promising program of work and must currently reside in the U.S. or its territories. Ten fellowships are awarded annually, promoting artistic and intellectual advancement.

The Addressing Health Inequities in Clinical Diagnostics program invites Small Business Concerns to develop innovative clinical diagnostics that tackle health disparities. This initiative emphasizes identifying and addressing issues within existing clinical diagnostics that contribute to inequities, ensuring inclusive solutions for diverse patient populations. By fostering advancements in clinical lab assays and point-of-care devices, the program aims to create equitable healthcare opportunities for all.

The Addressing Health Inequities in Clinical Diagnostics initiative invites Small Business Concerns to develop innovative clinical diagnostics that rectify health disparities in diverse patient populations. Applications should identify a specific inequity in current diagnostic practices and propose actionable solutions. This funding opportunity promotes inclusivity in clinical settings, ensuring that diagnostics are effective across varied demographics. All submissions must adhere to the deadline of 5:00 PM local time for the applicant organization.

The Innovation in Behavioral Health (IBH) Model (the “Model”) is an eight-year, voluntary service delivery and payment model promoting integrated care in behavioral health (BH) settings. The IBH Model will test the impact of a value-based payment (VBP) model aligned across Medicaid and Medicare that supports an integrated care delivery framework in specialty BH organizations and settings for adult Medicaid, Medicare, and dually eligible beneficiaries with moderate to severe mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders (SUDs).The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), through its Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (Innovation Center), will select up to eight state Medicaid agencies (SMAs) to participate in the Model. Implementation will begin in January 2025 and end in December 2032. The Model will have an eight-year performance period, which will be comprised of a three-year Pre-Implementation Period along with a five-year Implementation Period. Up to $7.5 million dollars in cooperative agreement award funding will be available to each selected Recipient over the course of the eight years.
