Dennis & Patricia Early Scholarship (STEM)

Dennis and Patricia Early have dedicated their lives to education and to encouraging and supporting students in every way. They taught multiple generations of the same families in Rockingham County. Patricia taught biology and chemistry and Dennis taught math.

This scholarship supports graduates of Rockingham County public high schools interested in studying math or science, or in becoming a K-12 math or science teacher. Candidates may pursue other career paths related to math and science. 

This scholarship is renewable.

The Virginia Academy of Science offers Small Project Research Grants aimed at supporting initiatives that enhance understanding of natural systems in Virginia and human impacts on them. Eligible applicants include members of the Academy, with a focus on projects that provide seed funding for scientific investigations. Past projects have successfully updated significant research on local ecosystems, fostering a collaborative approach to scientific inquiry and community engagement in Virginia's environmental issues.

Diane & Thomas Perry Scholarship

This scholarship was established to support current graduating seniors from public high schools in the city of Harrisonburg, and the counties of Rockingham, Page and Shenandoah, who plan to attend a four-year Virginia public college or university to further their education.

This scholarship will be awarded to students planning to work toward a bachelor’s degree with a science/pre-med, business or education major. 

This scholarship is renewable.

The Capacity Building Initiative (CBI) by the Chesapeake Bay Funders Network aims to enhance the organizational capacity of groups working towards community well-being and natural resource management. Funded projects may include strategic planning, staff training, and technology assistance, with funding requests typically capped at $40,000 for nonprofits and $150,000 for local governments. Eligible applicants include nonprofits and local governments operating within the Chesapeake watershed, focusing on water and natural resource goals.

This scholarship was established to support graduating seniors from public high schools in the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, and the counties of Rockingham, Augusta, Shenandoah, Page, and Rockbridge who plan to attend a four-year Virginia public college or university.

This scholarship is renewable.

The Synod of the Mid-Atlantic's Jubilee Trust Fund supports mission projects aimed at enhancing African-American leadership within congregations. Established in 1982, the fund promotes clergy recruitment, Christian education, and youth ministry. It addresses specific community needs through well-defined initiatives, ensuring that resources are allocated to projects that foster growth and presence of African-American churches in the region. Applications are reviewed by the Jubilee Fund Committee for potential funding.

The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region

The Community Foundation is a devoted advocate for the vitality and well-being of the Rappahannock River Region. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that manages and distributes charitable giving in the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline, and the City of Fredericksburg.

Scholarships

One of The Community Foundation’s strategies for preserving and growing the quality of life in our region is supporting higher education for area students. Generous individuals and families, companies and organizations establish endowed scholarship funds and the proceeds from these funds benefit deserving students. Donors work with foundation staff to determine appropriate criteria for each fund. The Community Foundation currently administers more than fifty scholarship funds.

The Como Farm Scholarship Fund

The Como Farm Scholarship is a four-year award, which “follows” the winner through their college career, on the condition of adequate annual progress.

This scholarship fund was established in May 2010 by anonymous donors and named for their family home place in recognition of “four generations of love” for their community.

Our 2026 Scholarship Program will disburse over $300,000 this year!

Our scholarships support students of all ages (high school seniors, current college students, and adults returning to school) residing in Staunton, Waynesboro, and the counties of Augusta, Highland, and Nelson. 

Only one application is required to be considered for the majority of Community Foundation scholarships.

Lt. Col. Thomas R. Beam Scholarship

The Lt. Col. Thomas R. Beam Scholarship was established through the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge to support promising students from the Central Shenandoah Valley in pursuing a path of service, leadership, and education at Virginia Tech as members of the Corps of Cadets.

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is accepting applications for the Operation Ceasefire Grant Program aimed at reducing violent crime in the Commonwealth. This initiative focuses on implementing effective strategies that foster community partnerships and support law enforcement efforts. Funded by the General Assembly, the grant is designed to enhance training and resources for law enforcement agencies and community organizations involved in violence intervention, ultimately promoting public safety and community well-being.

The Cyber as a Service Grant Program, under the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, aims to enhance students' cybersecurity skills while benefiting Virginia's local economies. This program encourages student-led projects that provide essential cyber services, such as penetration testing and risk analysis, to small businesses and non-profits located in the same counties as participating educational institutions. With a funding cap of $15,000, the initiative fosters collaboration between academia and the local workforce.

The Emory & Henry University Scholarship was established by alumni, David W. Driver, to support Harrisonburg & Rockingham County students attending his alma mater.

Fund for Education Scholarship

The Fund for Education Scholarship provides a financial award for students from Madison County High School, Culpeper County High School and/or Eastern View High School, all of whom plan to attend an accredited college or university after high school graduation. The scholarship will provide support for tuition, room & board, and fees.

Undergraduate engineering and pre-engineering students in Virginia preparing for HVAC&R-related careers can receive up to US $3,000 for one year of study through the ASHRAE Region III Setty Family Foundation Scholarship. American Society of Heating Refrigerating & A C Engineers supports students at eligible accredited programs or institutions with ASHRAE student branches.

Harold & Faye Teer Scholarship

Harold and Faye Teer, both James Madison University Professors Emeriti, know firsthand the difficulties in affording higher education. Faye was the first in her family to attend college. Both Harold and Faye struggled to afford college in a time when expenses were not nearly as high as they are today.

Wishing to assist today’s students who need financial help to attend college, Drs. Harold and Faye Teer established this scholarship for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County area high school students who will be the first in their family to complete a college education. This financial aid scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA and successfully completes at least 12 academic credit hours each semester.

The Ernest Morgan Memorial Scholarship, managed by CommunityGiving, supports central Minnesota student athletes and leaders to pursue higher education outside their home states. This scholarship aims to expand students' horizons and experiences, with a total award of $5,000 available. Open to high school seniors from specific schools, applicants are encouraged to apply online and demonstrate their leadership or athletic skills. This initiative enhances educational opportunities and fosters personal growth among local youth.

The Ron Goellner Conservation Fund Award, administered by the Cryptobranchid Interest Group, offers grants up to $2,000 for projects focused on the conservation of giant salamanders. This initiative supports innovative research, field conservation, and educational initiatives that aim to protect these species and their habitats. Open to all applicants, the fund prioritizes projects that demonstrate broad conservation impact and partnerships. Applications are automatically considered for two separate grants of up to $1,000 each.

Luis A. Mendez, Jr. Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of Luis Mendez, a gifted pianist that performed with legendary entertainers, big bands and musicians from his early days in the U.S. Army and over the next six decades. While he loved to play music, his passion in life was to share his talent as a music educator. Luis impacted the lives of countless individuals throughout his 50 years of teaching choral and instrumental music in El Paso, Texas; Mansfield, Ohio; and Polk County, Florida. Humble, witty and kind, Luis loved his students and maintained relationships with many of them throughout his entire lifetime.

This scholarship supports graduating seniors of Harrisonburg City and Rockingham County high schools who are pursuing a college degree with aspirations to teach in the music or arts field. Strong consideration will be given to eligible applicants that demonstrate significant community involvement.

The Patterson Foundation offers Oral Health Grants to support programs that enhance access to dental care for underserved communities. Eligible 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations can apply for funding up to $35,000 for capacity expansion, $10,000 for personnel support, or $10,000 for program support. The foundation prioritizes projects led by volunteer dental professionals and requires follow-up reports for continued funding. Applications are accepted year-round through a two-step process.

The Community Scholarship Fund

In September 2021, The Community Foundation’s Board of Governors established The Community Scholarship Fund. This new scholarship fund will provide opportunities to area students who face challenges accessing higher education by providing general scholarships based on need, without a particular designation. 

The Community Foundation believes that investing in our youth is investing in our community’s success and pivotal to the lives of students today and to our collective future. The United States Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) indicates that 8.9% of students (ages 5 to 17) in our region live in poverty without the necessary means to be successful. The Community Scholarship Fund is an opportunity for our community to collectively contribute to the furtherment of our student’s education.

Andy King Memorial Scholarship

In great honor and memory of Anderson, “Andy” King, the purpose of this scholarship is to support graduating high school seniors planning to pursue a Bachelor’s degree with a college major in the field of agriculture. Andy and his wife, Amy, both enjoyed careers in the Agricultural field, although neither grew up on a family farm. It is Amy’s hope that this scholarship will support students who also found their way into the agricultural field.

TC Energy’s Build Strong program supports vital organizations in communities near its operations. By providing grants, scholarships, and in-kind support, the program aims to enhance safety, education, environmental protection, and community well-being. Eligible applicants include non-profits and community groups addressing local needs. Ineligible activities include operational expenses and for-profit endeavors. The program prioritizes projects demonstrating measurable community impact, fostering a collaborative relationship between TC Energy and local stakeholders.

The Synod of the Mid-Atlantic offers the New and Small Church Grant Fund to support new and small churches in their mission projects. Funded through generous donations from Presbyterians, these grants help churches implement priorities in education, evangelism, and social justice. Eligible applicants include PCUSA churches within the Synod's bounds. Interested parties can find brochures and applications on the Synod's website or by contacting the Synod Office.

Regions Matching Gifts for Recent Retirees

Retirees of Regions and its affiliated companies are eligible for the Matching Gift Program for up to 5 years after retirement (the gift date must be within the first 5 years of retirement). Regions will match donations of $25 or more, up to a total of $1,000 per year per retiree.

The Regions Community Affairs team will contact the organization on your behalf to verify the gift and review eligibility.

The HRG Charitable Foundation Scholarship, administered by Scholarship America, aims to eliminate financial barriers for current high school seniors in the mid-Atlantic region pursuing STEM degrees. With a focus on expanding access for underrepresented students, the scholarship supports full-time undergraduate education at accredited institutions. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. This initiative reflects Scholarship America's commitment to educational equity and student success, ensuring every student can achieve their academic goals.

The Virginia Program Grant by the Virginia Environmental Endowment focuses on enhancing water quality, restoring the Chesapeake Bay, and promoting land conservation. It encourages projects that improve local watersheds and foster environmental literacy. The program prioritizes innovative strategies, matching funds, and collaborative approaches to address climate adaptation and emerging environmental issues. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies, while ineligible costs include litigation and land purchases.
