Advancing Computer Science Education (ACSE) Grant

The Department of Education is pleased to announce the release of the Advancing Computer Science Education (ACSE) FY27 Request for Proposals (RFP). This competitive grant opportunity supports the implementation of the 2024 Computer Science Standards of Learning and provides funding to develop high-quality instructional resources, curriculum, and assessments; deliver professional development for current and future teachers; support summer and after-school computer science programming; and facilitate career exposure and work-based learning opportunities for high school students. Consistent with the grant's legislative intent, funded projects should prioritize at-risk students and schools.  

The 2026 Appropriation Act has allocated $1.35 million to support this initiative. All Virginia public school divisions, full-time regional public schools, and programs with a local or regional school board are eligible to submit proposals meeting the intent of Advancing Computer Science Education Grant Request for Proposal.  

Funding is available across three project types per availability of funds: 

• Professional Learning, Implementation, and Evidence of Learning (up to $75,000 per award), 
• Student Engagement and Experimental Learning (up to $75,000 per award), and  
• Expansion of Computer Science Advanced Learning Opportunities (up to $50,000 per award).  

The Coaching Enhancement Grant by the NCAA Division III aims to increase diversity in assistant coaching roles by providing financial support to member institutions. Over two years, selected schools receive $15,000 to cover salaries, requiring a matching contribution. This initiative encourages ethnic minority and gender representation, allowing up to 11 institutions to benefit annually, thus enhancing inclusivity in collegiate sports.

The Southern SARE: On-Farm Research Grant supports agricultural professionals in collaborating with farmers to conduct innovative on-farm research projects focused on sustainable agriculture. This initiative emphasizes building strong relationships between researchers and farmers while addressing agricultural production challenges. By fostering new practices in production and marketing, it aims to enhance sustainability in the agricultural sector, thereby benefiting local communities and the environment.

The Southern SARE: Producer Grant supports farmers in conducting their own research projects to develop sustainable agricultural practices. Established in 1994, the program aims to enhance farmer profitability, promote responsible land use, and improve community quality of life. By focusing on areas like organic agriculture, sustainable marketing, and alternative crops, the grant empowers farmers to address production challenges and share valuable insights with others in the farming community, fostering a culture of sustainability and innovation.

FY 2027 Victim Witness Grant Program

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is accepting applications through the On-line Grant Management System (OGMS) (www.ogms.dcjs.virginia.gov/index.do) for state fiscal year (SFY) 2027, for the Victim Witness Grant Program (VWGP). This funding is supported by federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds, Virginia Crime Victim-Witness Fund (state special funds), and state general funds appropriated to DCJS in the Commonwealth of Virginia’s state budget for SFY 2027.

The primary purpose of VOCA funding is to support the delivery of direct services to victims of crime. For the purposes of this grant program, a crime victim is defined as a person who has suffered physical, sexual, financial, and/or emotional harm as a result of the commission of a crime. This includes victims of federal crimes. 

The Ron Goellner Conservation Fund Award, administered by the Cryptobranchid Interest Group, offers grants up to $2,000 for projects focused on the conservation of giant salamanders. This initiative supports innovative research, field conservation, and educational initiatives that aim to protect these species and their habitats. Open to all applicants, the fund prioritizes projects that demonstrate broad conservation impact and partnerships. Applications are automatically considered for two separate grants of up to $1,000 each.

Radio Systems Corporation aims to enhance community welfare through its Product Donation Requests program. With over $2 million contributed last year, the initiative focuses on supporting non-profits dedicated to animal welfare and youth education. This year, the goal is to positively impact 14.5 million individuals and pets. The program welcomes applications from eligible organizations, while ensuring that for-profit entities and political campaigns are not considered for donations.

Virginia Tree Stewards

Tree Stewards are trained community volunteers committed to promoting healthy urban and rural forests in Virginia. Tree Stewards provide training classes, educational programs, and projects in their communities intended to increase public awareness of the value of trees while teaching about trees and tree care. With classroom training and hands-on practice, Tree Stewards are equipped to identify trees, counsel on tree selection, demonstrate proper tree planting and follow-up care, and guide removal of invasive plants that threaten trees.

Each person taking the Tree Steward training makes a commitment to return a specific number of volunteer hours contributing to local Tree Steward projects. Each community determines the number of hours, sets the standards for volunteer work, and decides the Tree Steward projects its volunteers will undertake. Tree Steward volunteers are a positive force for change in their communities. All Tree Steward projects are tailored to meet the needs of their communities.

Mini Grants

Trees Virginia Mini-Grants are intended to assist the work of Tree Stewards in their communities. These funds may be used to support the training of Tree Stewards, purchase tools and equipment, acquire trees to plant, or develop educational materials or events. The purpose of the Mini-Grants is to provide equitable appropriation to Tree Steward Groups rather than awarding funds to groups on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Mid-Atlantic Panel on Aquatic Invasive Species Grant Program invites proposals for funding to tackle aquatic invasive species (AIS) challenges. Key priorities include research on AIS management, innovative control methods, and educational outreach. Eligible applicants range from individuals in government agencies to non-profit organizations. The program seeks to support initiatives that align with the Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force standards and aims to enhance regional AIS management strategies.

The VCA Operating Support Small grant aims to support small arts organizations in Virginia with annual cash income between $5,000 and $150,000. This funding helps enhance their artistic and operational excellence while fostering community engagement. Eligible applicants must meet specific criteria, including being exempt from federal income tax and having completed two years of programming. The grant focuses on providing operating funds to sustain and expand arts experiences that benefit Virginians.

Discretionary Incentives

Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Grant (EID Grant)

The Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Grant (EID Grant) is designed to incentivize companies to locate new maritime-related employment centers or expand existing centers to encourage growth of facilitate cargo growth at The Port of Virginia. EID Grants are administered by the Virginia Port Authority.

EID Grants are made at the discretion of the Executive Director of the Virginia Port Authority with the expectation that grants awarded will be used to assist a qualified company to locate a new operation or expand an existing operation within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Subject to appropriation, an EID Grant is available beginning January 1, 2025. The grant fund is subject to a distinct and shared appropriation cap with ITF grant program of $2 million.

The Strategic Alliance Matching Grant by the NCAA Division III aims to bolster ethnic minority and gender representation in senior athletics administration roles. With an annual budget of $1.6 million, it supports up to 46 schools and conferences over five years. Eligible institutions must be active NCAA Division III members and meet various requirements. This grant encourages diversity in leadership, fostering an inclusive environment for student-athletes.

The VHCF Health Access Grants aim to enhance healthcare access for uninsured Virginians and those in underserved areas. This funding supports initiatives to expand care capacity, establish broader services, and address the mental health crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible organizations include public agencies and 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The program prioritizes projects that create coordinated systems of care to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

The JFNY Grant for Arts & Cultural Exchange supports U.S. non-profit organizations aiming to enhance understanding of Japanese arts and culture. Eligible projects include performances, workshops, and exhibitions, with priority given to those with additional funding and in areas with limited access to cultural events. Applications must be submitted at least one month prior for online projects and three months for others. The grant covers expenses like travel, publicity, and artist fees, and is reimbursed upon project completion.

The CNX Foundation Grant aims to enhance the Appalachian region through strategic investments totaling $30 million. With a focus on sustainability and community development, the grant addresses pressing socio-economic challenges such as food insecurity, health and wellness for children, and technological access. By fostering local initiatives, CNX Foundation aspires to create measurable impacts that uplift communities and promote long-term growth, embodying their commitment to environmental, social, and governance principles.

Virginia community and economic development organizations in Virginia can apply for Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s Downtown Investment Grants, awarding up to US $75,000 for one-time projects that advance local revitalization goals. Programs that engage educators or support teacher-focused downtown initiatives may be eligible if they strengthen historic commercial districts.

The Coaching Enhancement Grant - Division II aims to enhance diversity in NCAA coaching by providing financial support for new assistant coaching positions. This grant specifically targets increased representation of ethnic minorities and women in athletics. Selected schools receive funding for three years to cover salaries and benefits, totaling $370,000 annually for up to 21 institutions. Eligible schools must be active NCAA Division II members committed to these diversity efforts.

NCAA Division II colleges and multisport conference offices in Virginia and other eligible regions can apply for the Strategic Alliance Matching Grant to fund full-time, mid- to senior-level athletics administration positions. This five-year support helps advance ethnic minority and gender representation, with roles covering planning, budgeting, fundraising, compliance, diversity efforts, and student-athlete welfare.

This project aims to combat the rapid spread of invasive climbing plants in the southeastern U.S. and Caribbean by creating a comprehensive database on species traits and disturbance locations. The database will enhance understanding of vine expansion and provide predictive maps for future spread, assisting managers in identifying vulnerable areas. This initiative aligns with federal priorities for natural resource stewardship and aims to strengthen community resilience against biological threats.

Bob's Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation supports non-profit organizations with resources rather than individual sponsorships. They require requests to be submitted on the letterhead of a qualified 501(c)(3) organization. This ensures that assistance reaches those in need through established channels. Interested parties should provide specific details regarding their requests to facilitate the application process. With a commitment to fairness, Bob's Cares aims to effectively support community initiatives across the country.

The Community College STEM Scholarships, provided by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, offer $2,000 to support full-time students in STEM fields at Virginia community colleges. Designed for those pursuing careers in technology and aerospace, these scholarships encourage underrepresented groups to apply. Eligible students must be U.S. citizens with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and complete at least one semester of coursework. This initiative aims to enhance the STEM workforce and promote diversity in technical fields.

The VCA Community Impact Grants aim to support innovative art-based projects that engage underserved communities across Virginia. With a focus on collaboration and artistic excellence, these grants fund new and expanded creative programming and require a 1:1 cash match. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, local governments, and educational institutions. The program emphasizes community involvement in project planning and execution, ensuring a meaningful impact through the arts.

FY 2027 School Safety Officer Program Grant

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce the Fiscal Year 2027 School Resource Officer Incentive Grant Program Funding Opportunities for School Security Officers (SSO) grants. 

• Funding is available for salary and benefits for full-time or part-time SSO positions, equipment, programming, and training.

Grants will be awarded on a continuation basis (#567211) and a competitive basis (#567212) for a 12-month period beginning July 1, 2026, and ending on June 30, 2027.

Awards are contingent on funding availability within the SRO Fund in the state appropriations act.

The total amount requested in an application may not exceed $50,000 per SSO position in DCJS Special funds, and the total amount may not exceed the FY26 awarded amount unless the difference in funding is covered with matching funds. All requested amounts must be reasonable and consistent with the locality’s or school division’s staff compensation policies and practices.

Alcohol Education and Prevention Grants

Virginia ABC seeks to partner, collaborate and build capacity with those who share in promoting our message of alcohol safety and responsibility. Through Education and Prevention, Virginia ABC offers annual Alcohol Education and Prevention Grants of up to $10,000.

Grantees are encouraged to build partnerships and embrace collaboration to achieve a meaningful, measurable and long-lasting impact. Members of the Community Health & Engagement team stay in contact throughout the grant cycle to provide support and encourage success.

Virginia Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and Intervention Summer Grant Program 

The purpose of this grant program is to fund effective diversion and prevention programs designed to provide enrichment opportunities for youth during the summer months. These federal funds are available under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act Title II Formula Grants Program from the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). Title II grants are intended to “support a continuum of evidence-based or promising programs that are trauma informed, reflect the science of adolescent development, and are designed to meet the needs of youth.”

Eligible projects must fall within the following priorities:

• Reducing disproportionality in the juvenile justice system;
• Addressing behavioral health needs of youth and those involved in the juvenile justice system;
• Serving youth and system-involved youth in their home communities; or
• Increasing family engagement and community involvement for youth.

Programs must be evidence-informed (research and data driven). Applicants seeking to expand or replicate an existing project must be able to demonstrate progress and success in what has been done through the life of the project. Projects should demonstrate that programming is approached through a trauma-informed lens.

Expected Total Amount of Funding

DCJS anticipates $200,000 in federal funds will be available for awards under this funding opportunity.
