The Community Foundation proudly supports students in Portage and Waushara counties with over $325,000 in scholarships annually, thanks to the generosity of local individuals and families. Award amounts range from $500 to $40,000, opening doors to educational opportunities.

The Community Foundation provides scholarships for a wide range of students, including high school seniors, college students, non-traditional learners, and those pursuing specific fields of study.

Ann G. Haley Scholarship

Criteria for Selection:

• Pursuing a degree in the medical field.

The William C. Risser Charitable Trust Grants support mental health research, particularly in Schizophrenia. This private foundation assists 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations across the U.S. with grants typically ranging from $25,000 to $55,000. Administered by Wells Fargo, the Trust awards 1-2 grants annually, focusing on program support for scientific and educational research. Eligible organizations must meet IRS exemption requirements.

The American Diabetes Association's Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards aim to foster emerging leaders in diabetes research. With a focus on innovative research, these fellowships provide up to three years of funding, including a stipend and allowances. Eligible applicants must hold a recent advanced degree and conduct research at U.S. affiliated institutions. This initiative not only supports career development but also contributes significantly to the mission of preventing and curing diabetes.

The Andee Jorgensen Scholarship, managed by the Renton Regional Community Foundation, supports students from King County demonstrating financial need and resilience against personal hardships. With an award of $1,000, this scholarship honors civic leader Andee Jorgensen and is available for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Preference is given to those engaged in community service. The foundation aims to foster education and empower local youth to pursue their academic ambitions while overcoming challenges.

The CDC has announced funding for FY 2027 to enhance state capacity in alcohol epidemiology and prevent excessive alcohol use through the NOFO CDC-RFA-DP-27-0072. This initiative aims to equip states with essential tools and knowledge for effective public health measures against excessive alcohol use, a major preventable cause of death in the U.S. The program will also provide expert technical assistance and training on effective prevention strategies over a 5-year performance period.

The Delta Scholarship aims to support college-bound minority students in San Diego County who are dedicated to pursuing higher education. Established in memory of Jim Lewis, a passionate community leader, this scholarship offers up to $10,000 per student annually for four years, based on financial need. Eligible applicants must be graduating high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0, planning to attend an accredited college or university.

The Trails Capacity Program, previously known as the Trail Fund Grant, aims to enhance community capacity for trail maintenance, research, and stewardship training across the nation. The program focuses on supporting non-Forest Service Federal lands, as well as state and local areas, fostering inclusivity and improved user behavior. By collaborating with diverse trail partners, it seeks to ensure effective stewardship and sustainable trail management, ultimately promoting public access and enjoyment of America's natural landscapes.

The Plant Genome Research Program (PGRP) focuses on genome-scale research to tackle vital biological, societal, and economic challenges. It promotes innovative tools and resources for the plant research community to explore significant scientific questions. The program emphasizes high-impact data accessibility and integration while supporting training and career development. PGRP offers two funding tracks: the Research-PGR Track for fundamental biological inquiries and the TRTech-PGR Track for advancements in functional plant genomics.

HEART Development Funding for Affordable Housing/Behavioral Health Facilities

The City of Spokane is releasing this Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the development of affordable housing and behavioral health facilities portion of revenue generated through the City’s 0.1% local sales and use tax authorized under RCW 82.14.530 (HB 1590) and codified locally in the SMC 08.07C. The City of Spokane’s priority goal for this funding opportunity is to increase housing stability through the development of affordable housing units and behavioral health facilities for qualifying households. All applicants must demonstrate in the application how the proposed projects will lead to housing stability.

Households benefitting from units assisted with HEART development funds must earn 60% or less of the Area Median Income and qualify as one or more of the following populations:

• Senior citizen, elderly person; and/or
• Person with disabilities, including behavioral disabilities; and/or
• Homeless; and/or
• At risk of Homelessness, including families with children; and/or
• Unaccompanied homeless youth or young adults; and/or
• Domestic violence survivors, or persons fleeing, or attempting to flee domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking; and/or
• Veterans or families that include a veteran family member.

Vanguard Resident FellowshipThe American Psychiatric Association has participated in the Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) since 1973. The program goals are to advance the quality of mental and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services and improve mental health care outcomes for all. The program seeks to increase the number and quality of psychiatrists who teach, administer services, conduct research, and provide direct mental and/or substance use disorder services to our Nation’s communities, and to treat and serve populations with higher prevalence of behavioral health challenges and conditions more effectively.Program Benefits:

Community Diversity FellowshipThe Community Diversity Fellowship is a unique opportunity for psychiatry residents from diverse backgrounds and residents who are committed to serving minority and vulnerable populations. The fellowship provides professional development, training, mentorship, and a field placement component (up to 15 hours per month) designed to add exponential impact in the delivery of culturally competent psychiatric care across hard to reach and traditionally underrepresented communities. These populations include—but are not limited to—American Indians/Native Alaskans, Asian Americans/Native Hawaiians/Native Pacific Islanders, Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, LGBTQ, and religious minorities.Program Benefits:

While they are no longer accepting sponsorship applications for 2025, they encourage grassroots organizations serving marginalized communities in eastern Washington to reach out for future opportunities. Their focus includes supporting 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and low-income populations, fostering collaboration, and enhancing community well-being.

The Gresham Scholarship Fund offers a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to support students from the Gresham Community who have been residents for at least three years. Applicants must have completed one semester at an accredited post-secondary institution and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance for college attendance, ensuring that local students can pursue higher education and contribute positively to the community.

The Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program (ESRP) is inviting project proposals for nearshore restoration and protection in Puget Sound. Projects will be evaluated on costs, technical readiness, stakeholder support, and ecological benefits. The initiative aims to enhance the nearshore ecosystem, focusing on restoring vital processes and improving ecosystem functions. Successful proposals will address degradation sources and protect intact areas, contributing to the 2025-27 Investment Plan for state appropriations.

The ESA Youth Scholarship Program, by the Electronic Security Association, provides financial support to children of first responders, having awarded over $941,500 to date. Eligible applicants are high school seniors with parents who are full-time active first responders. Each scholarship winner receives $1,000 and a chance to compete for larger awards of $14,000 for first place and $5,000 for second place. Applications are welcomed from students in participating states.

The Harry Shwachman Clinical Investigator Award, offered by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, supports clinically trained physicians transitioning to independent researchers in cystic fibrosis. It provides up to $133,000 per year for three years to facilitate research tailored to individual interests. The funding covers personnel costs and supplies, promoting a strong mentorship during this critical stage of their academic careers.

The Path to a Cure (PTAC) - Postdoc-to-Faculty Transition Award by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation supports postdoctoral fellows in advancing their research careers in cystic fibrosis. This program offers up to five years of funding, including 3 years for research training and 2 years for transitioning to an independent faculty position, with a maximum support of $110,000 per year. It aims to foster innovative research that develops new therapies for cystic fibrosis.

The Raskob Foundation offers domestic grants to organizations located in the U.S. and its territories. Founded in 1945, this private, non-profit foundation focuses on supporting Catholic institutions. Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations, listed in the P.J. Kenedy Official Catholic Directory. However, requests from individuals and certain projects, such as debt reduction or completed projects, are not accepted. The foundation emphasizes its commitment to philanthropy and community support.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation offers the Path to a Cure (PTAC) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Award to support innovative research training in cystic fibrosis (CF). Aimed at enhancing scientific knowledge and facilitating the transition to independent careers, this program funds projects targeting the development of new therapies for CFTR variants. Awards can reach up to $75,000 in the first year and $76,000 in the second year, fostering foundational research that could lead to breakthroughs in CF treatment.

The Genentech Foundation supports innovative projects that address systemic inequities in healthcare. They fund tax-exempt organizations, including public charities and governmental entities, located in the U.S. Grant requests must be submitted at least 60 days before the project start date. Notably, projects must align with Genentech's commitment to advancing health equity and diversity in the medical workforce. Applications for funding will be accepted starting January 2, 2026, after a temporary closure.

The Pizza Hut Foundation is offering scholarships for students demonstrating financial need and community leadership. Eligible applicants must be U.S. residents aged 17-26, enrolled in accredited post-secondary education for Spring 2026, and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $5,000, with distribution to be made in Spring 2026. The application period runs from July 8 to September 5, 2025, with notifications for recipients by November 17, 2025.

The National Scleroderma Foundation's New Investigator Grant aims to support emerging researchers dedicated to scleroderma studies. This three-year grant, totaling $200,000, encourages applicants with doctoral degrees and postdoctoral experience. Eligible candidates are invited to submit proposals that may lead to further research funding. The grant emphasizes innovative research approaches while providing essential financial support for early-career investigators. Note that the grant does not cover certain costs, ensuring focused investment in research advancement.

This renewable scholarship is available to students who are descendants of the enslaved families of the former Woodlands Plantation in Bamberg County, South Carolina. 

The Bev Sellers Memorial Scholarship, established by Sweet Adelines International, aims to support young singers pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Pedagogy, Music Education, or Music Composition. Named after a cherished former president, this scholarship provides $5,000 USD to assist with tuition and fees. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to barbershop music, maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA, and provide letters of reference. Provides one or more annual scholarships to Marshall County high school seniors — specifically students graduating from Argos Community Schools, Bremen Public Schools, Culver Community Schools, John Glenn School Corporation, Plymouth Community Schools, Triton Community Schools or Union-North United School Corporation. 

Include a 250 word maximum essay including background, educational goals and any other information that might be helpful to the scholarship committee.

The NHLBI Catalyze program aims to transition basic science discoveries into effective treatments for diseases under the NHLBI mission. This initiative supports early-stage product definition, prototype design, and assay development for HLBS disorders. The R61 phase focuses on initial designs and experimental setups, while the R33 phase extends support for prototype testing and user feedback. Successful completion prepares products for in vivo testing, enhancing health and societal outcomes with NIH and other support.
