Best Scouting Organization Grants in West Virginia

Nonprofits and other eligible organizations in West Virginia that run after-school or summer academic enrichment for K–12 youth can apply for US $50,000 - US $250,000 from the West Virginia Department of Education. The Hearst Foundation's Social Service Grant focuses on tackling chronic poverty by funding direct-service organizations that implement effective solutions for economic independence and family strengthening. With a mission to support diverse nonprofits in the U.S., the Foundation allocates approximately 15% of its total funding to social services, prioritizing scalable programs that serve significant populations. The minimum grant size is $100,000, and special consideration is given to organizations addressing affordable housing, domestic violence, and youth development.

The Community Foundation’s scholarships are for Arkansas students pursuing education at two- or four-year colleges or universities, vocational schools or technical training programs. Each scholarship has its own eligibility criteria. Some scholarships are designated for graduates of a particular high school or those who plan to attend a particular college. Others are based on extracurricular activities or intended college majors.

Young Health Programme

The Young Health Programme (YHP) is a global disease prevention initiative, aiming to provide education for young people to feel empowered to make informed choices about their health and catalyse a global, youth-led advocacy movement.

The programme operates in over 40 countries and partners with more than 60 non-profit organisations, including UNICEF and Plan International. The YHP combines community programmes, research, advocacy, and the development of young leaders, with a focus on underserved communities.

Since its launch in 2010, the YHP has directly reached over 23 million young people, trained over 1 million, and engaged more than 23,000 AstraZeneca employees, who have volunteered their time with more than 140,000 hours.

The YHP aims to prevent the most common non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cancer, diabetes, heart disease and respiratory disease, by addressing five main risk factors: tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol, and air pollution. Additionally, the programme tackles climate-health impacts to build healthier communities, recognising, as projected in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, that children born after 2010 will be the first generation to enter adulthood in a world where the average temperature will reach 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, and are expected to experience a +2°C rise within their lifetime.1

AstraZeneca Young Health Programme Impact Fellowship 2026

AstraZeneca is looking for passionate, driven young leaders to join their 2026 Young Health Programme (YHP) Impact Fellowship. The Fellowship supports young advocates to create actionable change to: 

• Advance health equity – with a focus on acting early to prevent non-communicable diseases among young people, or supporting young people living with rare diseases.
• Take action on climate and nature – advocating for the mitigation of the harmful effects of climate change on the health and well-being of young people.
• Build health systems resilience – contributing to stronger health systems that prioritise earlier intervention to meet today’s needs and mitigate tomorrow’s disease burden.

The selected Fellows will gain access to networks, funding and development opportunities, enabling them to drive a global health movement led by and for young people:

A fully-funded scholarship to attend the 2026 One Young World Summit in Cape Town, South Africa (3–6 November 2026) as well as access to the One Young World Ambassador Network and the Young Health Programme (YHP) Alumni group of other young changemakers working to improve youth health.

Structured learning and development offerings to enable them to scale their impact, including both self-directed and live learning. This includes access to the One Young World Academy, an award-winning mini-MBA programme, mentorship from AstraZeneca colleagues and professional training.

Each selected Fellow will receive a grant of either USD $10,000 or USD $50,000 (if selected as the Lead2030 winner** for Sustainable Development Goal 3, for which applicants will be automatically considered) from AstraZeneca, through their non-profit organisation. Fellows are expected to use the grant to implement a project focused on either (1) advancing health equity (2) taking action on climate and nature (3) building health systems resilience.

The Youth Climate Justice Fund provides funding to emerging youth-led climate justice and socio-environmental groups through a participatory decision-making process.

West Virginia youth development and leadership organizations can access funding through the Marietta Kiwanis Foundation’s Scott Chadwick Scholarship, which supports emerging leaders pursuing accredited college or university studies. Cobb County, GA residents engaged in community service with civic, nonprofit, educational, faith-based, arts, military, or justice organizations may receive US $2,500 awards.

Students pursuing higher education or technical training who graduated from Quillayute Valley or Cape Flattery school districts can receive more than US $2,000 to support tuition and related costs. Community Foundation for Southwest Washington’s Maury and Betty Hull Endowed Scholarship favors past recipients and recognizes youth leadership, which may benefit West Virginia scouting participants with local ties.

High school students in Big Sky interested in youth leadership, outdoor adventure, and service can apply for Yellowstone Club Community Foundation’s Big Bald Dave Adventure Scholarship. This non–need-based award provides a summer trip experience coordinated by Adventures Cross Country, which may appeal to West Virginia scouting organizations seeking models of youth development and leadership programming.

501(c)(3) nonprofits running youth development, workforce readiness, environmental education, or community support programs in select U.S. regions can apply for Ecolab Foundation’s regional NPO grants. West Virginia organizations may be eligible if they serve Martinsburg or Berkeley County youth or broader community needs within the program’s listed focus areas.

High school seniors, college, and non-traditional students pursuing criminal justice or first responder studies can apply for CommunityGiving’s Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation Scholarship, awarding US $2,000 toward 2- or 4-year U.S. programs. Youth leadership-focused scouting participants in West Virginia with similar academic goals may find this opportunity informative, though it is limited to specific Minnesota counties.

Grants prioritize initiatives that directly impact many young people, especially those with strong volunteer involvement and diversified funding sources, and may occasionally cover administrative costs.

Nonprofit organizations running STEM education, youth development, or adult job-readiness programs can apply for AFL Global’s community grants, including those serving West Virginia. AFL Global provides support for initiatives that help children thrive, expand access to STEM learning, and assist adults in pursuing employment and greater self-sufficiency.

Native or Indigenous youth leaders ages 14–24 living in West Virginia can apply for the Aspen Institute’s Champions for Change program, which supports youth-led community impact and leadership development. Scouting organizations and similar youth programs may encourage eligible members to apply to gain advocacy training, national recognition, and connection to the Center for Native American Youth network.

Youth-serving organizations and public high schools in West Virginia focused on youth leadership and civic engagement may be eligible to support students applying for the Bezos Scholars Program. Grants from Bezos Family Foundation help youth development and leadership efforts in the U.S. and Africa by funding student-led community change projects and related leadership development activities, including a $1,000 project grant.

Female high school seniors active in Girl Scouts and graduating from a Smith County, Texas school can receive US $1,000 toward college costs from East Texas Communities Foundation. This need-based, one-year scholarship supports tuition, fees, room and board, or books, and Girl Scout youth leaders in West Virginia may find similar scouting-focused opportunities through this funder’s programs.

The OJJDP FY 2026 Second Chance Act Youth Reentry Program aims to provide critical support for moderate- to high-risk youth transitioning back into their communities after confinement. This funding opportunity encourages collaboration among state agencies, local governments, Tribes, and community organizations to deliver comprehensive reentry services and assist youth in overcoming challenges related to recidivism.
