Provident Health Foundation of Marinette-Menominee Inc.

The Provident Health Foundation was created in 2019 as part of the final agreement between Advocate Aurora Health and Bay Area Medical Center that made the hospital a wholly-owned member of the Advocate Aurora system with a big vision for community health.

How we fund is evolving as we become more established and as we listen and respond to the needs of our community, both the residents of these counties and the nonprofits with which we partner. Our philosophy of operating is born from the vision of health for Marinette and Menominee Counties that we have written into our bylaws and evidence-based best practices for private foundations on how to achieve that vision. The Provident Health Foundation Board of Directors codifies that in a Strategic Plan for Provident every three years.

The purpose of the Provident Health Foundation is to improve and sustain the health and well being of the people who live in Marinette and Menominee Counties and ensure them access to affordable quality acute hospital care. Provident Health Foundation's mission is to serve those in Marinette and Menominee counties.  

Provident Health Foundation Grant

We fund new or existing program and project requests that work to advance our mission as stated above through our strategic plan priorities. Our strategic plan was informed by the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) conducted in collaboration with the Community Health Partnership of Marinette/Menominee Counties and included feedback from over 1000 residents and 70 leaders. We fund to address the top health improvement priorities from the CHNA. Those are:

• Substance Misuse
• Mental Health
• Childhood Obesity reduction through healthy eating and active living
• Equitable Access to Care

We fund requests that address these through a prevention or promotion approach as opposed to treatment or recovery. We also fund requests that address social determinants of health with the goal of improving these health behaviors in our community. 

The RFP for the Rural Rental Housing Preservation Academy offers no-cost training sessions aimed at empowering rural housing providers to acquire and preserve affordable housing financed by USDA, HUD, and LIHTC. Participants will engage in peer learning, receive targeted technical assistance, and access expert guidance tailored to their needs. This initiative seeks to enhance the preservation of affordable housing opportunities, particularly those with rental assistance, in rural communities across the region.

It includes a $1,000 honorarium and other benefits presented at the SAF national convention. Nominees must be active members of the Society of American Foresters and demonstrate leadership and impact in their field.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is dedicated to advancing the education of exceptionally promising students who have financial need. Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded $304 million in scholarships to more than 3,400 students from 8th grade through graduate school, along with comprehensive academic advising, career pathway counseling and other support services. The Foundation has also provided $136 million in grants to organizations that serve such students.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s scholarship programs are designed to encourage and support outstanding students who work hard and have financial need. Our scholarships provide financial assistance and academic support to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. In addition to the monetary award, students join a thriving network of more than 3,400 Cooke Scholars.

Young Scholars Program

The Cooke Young Scholars Program is a selective five-year, pre-college scholarship for exceptionally promising 7th grade students with financial need. It provides comprehensive academic and college advising, as well as financial support for school, Cooke-sponsored summer programs, internships, and other learning enrichment opportunities.

Program Experience

Educational Advisers support Young Scholars to maximize high school experiences and to go on to thrive at the nation’s top-performing colleges. Our programming and support may include:

• Identifying an appropriately rigorous high school.
• Engaging in four-year planning and goal-setting.
• Funding for academic and extracurricular opportunities, such as music and art lessons, supplemental academic classes and technology.
• Annual summer programs, including two required Young Scholar programs.
• Year-round Young Scholars community programming.
• Networking opportunities with a high-achieving peer community.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is launching a funding opportunity for Clinical Trials Units (CTUs) as part of its effort to combat HIV/AIDS. The foundation seeks innovative programs that foster community engagement and promote healthy lifestyles.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is launching a funding opportunity for up to four Clinical Trials Network Laboratory Centers (LCs). These LCs will support HIV prevention and treatment strategies by providing necessary laboratory infrastructure and technologies for clinical trials. The 1890 Scholarships Program, overseen by the USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), aims to enhance the recruitment and retention of undergraduate and graduate students at 1890 Land-grant institutions. It supports students pursuing degrees in food and agricultural sciences, fostering a skilled workforce in this critical sector. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) invites proposals for Specialized Alcohol Research Centers (P50) to enhance interdisciplinary research on alcohol misuse and Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). These centers aim to foster collaboration among researchers, focusing on innovative topics related to alcohol's effects on health across the lifespan. The Jack Feldt Ambucs Memorial Scholarship, established in 1997, supports students in the Tri-Cities area pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy. Funded by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, this scholarship prioritizes applicants demonstrating financial need. It considers college juniors and graduating high schoolers, reflecting the spirit of community and collaboration championed by Ambucs. Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation

The Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals who are blind or visually impaired by fostering independence and self-sufficiency. Its mission is to support programs that help people with vision loss lead independent, productive lives, while its vision is an accessible and inclusive world where individuals have the tools, resources, and opportunities to fully participate in society.

The Foundation’s funding priorities focus on supporting nonprofit organizations and initiatives that provide education, training, and rehabilitation services, assistive technology innovations, vision care and access to aids, and capacity building for professionals serving the visually impaired community. It also invests in programs that enhance employment opportunities, promote independence, and improve service delivery systems for people with vision loss, emphasizing practical, community-based solutions and long-term impact.

Small Discretionary Grants

The Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation (RDPFS) Track #3 Small Discretionary Grants provide flexible, year-round funding for smaller-scale initiatives that support individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Grant requests are accepted on a rolling basis and awarded at the discretion of the Executive Director. Awards are made until available funds are exhausted, allowing the Foundation to respond to timely or emerging needs.

Generally the Community Foundation's scholarships are awarded to applicants who have high financial need. Applicants with household income exceeding $100,000 are less likely to be awarded, but applying will allow you to be considered for targeted scholarships.

Virginia Valk Fehsenfeld Scholarship

Open to full time undergraduate students who are Kent County residents studying education, dietetics, nutrition, or human services and have a minimum 3.4 GPA.

The American Heart Association is inviting proposals for research on the effects of GLP-1 and GIP agonists in individuals with cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases. This initiative aims to explore how these medications can alleviate the CKM burden. The Women's Club of Grand Haven Grant, established in 2001, offers scholarships to non-traditional students from the Tri-Cities seeking further education. Funded through community efforts such as an annual Used Book Sale, this grant prioritizes financial need and is open to applicants residing in Northern Ottawa County or those who graduated from local school districts. Preference is given to female applicants aged 21 and older, supporting educational advancement for those whose academic journeys have been interrupted.

The NIAID is focused on advancing the research and development of next-generation malaria vaccines, aiming to leverage innovative vaccine design techniques. This initiative not only aims to enhance malaria prevention but also serves as a model for combating other mosquito-borne diseases. By utilizing cutting-edge methods such as structure-based immunogen design and combination vaccines, the program seeks to significantly reduce both parasite infection rates and the overall disease burden associated with malaria.

This grant opportunity from the US Department of Health and Human Services, specifically the National Institutes of Health, aims to examine the effectiveness of family navigation models that divert non-urgent mental health concerns from emergency departments. The initiative seeks to enhance mental health service engagement, provide necessary resources, and support families in overcoming barriers to help-seeking. Key deadlines for applications range from February 2025 to October 2027.
